Definitions
- the object of this invention is a wall element which is enclosed in accordance with the introduction of the patent claim 1.
- the disadvantage of the present construction method is that the assembly is slow.
- the objective of this invention is a wall element, which can be manufactured in factory circumstances and can be quickly assembled as solid wood walls of a building (or at least partially of solid wood). Furthermore, the objective is a non- collapsible log wall construction.
- the main advantages of the invention are, for example, that the whole wall construction will be manufactured in factory circumstances, which guarantees the high quality of the wall element.
- the hydro-instability is constant, when there is no twisting or movements in the wall element after assembly.
- the invented wall element is an airtight, non-collapsible and firm construction and it is quick to assemble.
- Different profiles can be cut or shaped on the invented wall element, for example, the traditional v-grooves for the planed log or round/ellipse profiles for the round log. There are plenty of suitable profiles.
- the surface treatment for inner and outer surfaces can be done as complete at the factory.
- the manufacturing technology for the wall element is simple and cheap.
- the sawing and cutting by-products (chips) can be used, for example, between the inner and outer elements as insulation.
- Short squared pieces of timber (battens) and splints can also be used with finger joints.
- Different kinds of quality of lumber can be used cost- effectively in the outer, middle and inner parts of the wall element.
- the corner joints can be made tight and strong.
- the surface mountings (electric) can be left out (for example, a wall socket can be installed cleanly in flush with the wall element).
- the construction of the wall element can be done economically thicker (more massive) with leaving air slots (5-25mm) between the squared timbers while the thermal resistance (u-value) of the wall element gets better.
- the air slots can also be used for horizontal (electrical) ducts.
- Manufacturing and assembly of verandas, bay windows and other corner constructions are handy and quick compared to the traditional systems of log houses.
- Vertical stiffness (buckling) can be increased with plywood plates assembled on holes and gables (by gluing and/or by mechanical attachment). Because of the rigidity of the construction the elements can be laid on different building foundations, for example, on sprung steel poles (in earthquake areas). Different profiles used on inner and outer surfaces, for example, on the round log profile make it possible to minimize the weather strain.

- Figure 14 shows one solution on the invented wall element as seen direct from the front.
- Figure 15 shows one corner joint according to invented wall elements as seen perpendicularly from above.
- Frame 1 where there are an outer surface Ia, an inner surface Ib, an upper part Id, a lower part Ic, a middle part Ie and part Ix.
- On the outer surface Ia there is a groove laa.
- On the inner surface Ib there is a groove lba.
- In the middle part Ie there are an inner material lea and the air slots leb.
- Insulation 2. Shelter from the wind 3. Air gap 4.
- Fastener 5. Ventilation gap 6. Ventilation organ 7.
- Glued joint 13 Boring to wall socket 14.
- Loose cage 20 Stiffener part 21, where there is a fastener 21a. Intermediate floor 22 and flat 23.
- the idea of this invention is to manufacture element constructed log walls by gluing boards/beams together (compare this to glued laminated beams used in load bearing constructions).
- the elements will be manufactured at factory circumstances and they will be connected / assembled at the building site by using different types of corner joints as the figure 15 shows.
- the invented wall element wooden wall element
- the invented wall element can be manufactured by gluing narrow boards (squared timber) together on their flats as the figure 7 shows, while the construction breathes on horizontal direction, because there are no vertical adhesive joints.
- the construction can also be made of two separate elements (the inner and outer elements) joined together, as the figures 8, 9, 10 and 13 show.
- the frames 1 of the wall elements can be joined together with vertical plywood plates 5.
- the insulation gets better with an air gap 4 between the elements.
- a suitable insulation 2 can also be assembled between the elements.
- different species of wood can be solid in their element if the movement as a result of moisture is different.
- the wooden wall element can also be build in the same way as traditional construction of studwork wall (figure 10) when the inner element is the load bearing frame with the addition of insulation 2, shelter from the wind 3, ventilation gap 6 and a thinner outer element. In this construction the upper and lower parts of the element are not closed.
- the lower part Id of the outer element has ventilation organs 7, for example, borings or notches to make the ventilation possible.
- the elements can be made to the height of the rooms (figure 11), that is to the height of the roof truss or to the height of the whole outer wall, in other words, to the height of the rafter (figure 12).
- the middle floor 22 and the flat 23 can be constructed from beams, for example, of plywood.
- the double-element (figures 8 and 9) and the outer element in the frame element (figure 10) can be done higher, that is into the height of the rafter (figure 13), when the stiffener plywood (fastener 5) can be used to fasten the rafter
- the breast- work of the house and the partitions can also be manufactured with elements.
- the junctions at the overlapping elements will be worked into the profiles used and will be assembled with, for example, joints using wooden pegs.
- the partition elements will function as buckling supports for the long parts of the walls of the building.
- Stiffener parts 21 can also be used as the buckling supports for the walls.
- the wall element can also be manufactured by using prefabricated units, such as beams of suitable height, which are glued together in the figure 14 from the upper beam 10, the middle beam 11 and the lower beam 12. By using this method the material consumption can be effectively controlled, for example, in breast- work manufacturing.
- the holes for the windows 16 can be made by cutting the middle beams 10 for suitable widths.
- the hole sizes that deviate from standards can be made by machining the lower or upper beams for suitable measurements.
- the wooden wall element can be used for building normal detached houses, holiday homes, row-houses and townhouses. By using this method the outer appearance of a log house made from single logs can be reached. Also a non-collapsible, firm and tight construction with abovementioned versatile features will be reached.
- the frame 1 of the invented wall element consists of the parts Ix which are horizontally joined together and the air slots leb.
- the frame 1 has the height and width of the building.
- outer surface Ia of the element On the outer surface Ia of the element there is an outer form, which consists of horizontal grooves laa which imitate the shape of horizontal logs. As a result, the outer surface Ia looks like a log wall.
- inner surface Ib of the element On the inner surface Ib of the element there is an inner form, which consists of horizontal grooves lba. These grooves imitate the shape of horizontal logs and, therefore, the inner surface Ib looks like a log wall.
- the inner material lea of the middle part Ie of the frame 1 is different species of wood than the material of the inner surface Ib of the frame 1.
- the middle part Ie also second-rated lumber can be used, because the middle part Ie can not be seen from at the finished construction.
- the inner part Ie of the frame 1 there are horizontal air slots leb, which are at least as high as the part Ix and profitably 5-25mm wide.
- the air slots leb function as insulation.
- the outer surface Ia and the inner surface Ib of the frame 1 of the wall element are made of different species of wood.
- the frames 1 of the wall element are joined together by using fasteners 5 which have the height of the elements.
- All parts of the invented element can be manufactured by using manufacturing methods and machines that are well-known in the wood technology.
