Abstract

Die Erfindung betrifft Titandioxid-Pigmentpartikel mit verbesserter Photostabilität, deren Oberfläche mit einer mit mindestens einem Dotierungselement dotierten dichten SiO2-Hülle beschichtet ist, wobei die SiO2-Hülle dadurch gekennzeichnet ist, dass durch die Dotierung mit dem mindestens einen Dotierungselement die Energiezustandsdichten im Valenzband und/oder im Leitungsband nahe der Bandlücke erniedrigt werden oder zusätzliche Energiezustände in der Bandlücke erzeugt werden. Die dotierte dichte SiO2-Hülle wird mit bekannten nass-chemischen Methoden oder in der Gasphase auf die Oberfläche der Titandioxid-Partikel aufgebracht. Besonders geeignete Dotierungselemente sind Sn, Sb, In, Ge, Y, Nb, F, Mn, Cu, Mo, Cd, Ce, W und Bi. Ausgeschlossen von der Erfindung sind folgende bekannte Dotierungselemente: AI, B, Ge, Mg, Nb, P, Zr für das Gasphasenverfahren und Ag, AI, B, Ba, Be, Ca, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Mg, Mn, Ni, Nb, Sn, Sr, Ti, Zn, Zr für das nass-chemische Verfahren.
