Definitions
- This invention relates to the seat of a vehicle, such as a bus, a metro train or the like, the seat consisting of a bracket fixed to the wall of the vehicle, a seat board on top of the bracket and a backrest.
- Vehicles used in public communications currently comprise seats of various types and models. These seats known per se have the common feature of being assembled of a plurality of parts. The greater the number of parts, the more costly the seat. The number of parts is known to increase the weight of the product and the production costs, and the assembly gets more complex with an increased number of parts. All traffic operators aim at weight reduction for reasons of fuel economy, among other things.
- the invention has the purpose of providing a seat of a new type, which is characterised by the bracket and the seat board being monolithically integrated so as to form the seat frame. With a symmetrically designed seat frame and fixing points for the backrest at both the edges of the seat frame, there is no need for two seat frames, a right- hand one and a left-hand one, the same seat frame being suitable on both sides of the vehicle.
- One embodiment of the invention is characterised by the seat frame being a hollow casing, into which a ventilation inlet duct has been conducted, and by the seat frame having openings, through which supply air is released into the interior of the vehicle.
- This provides a regular and draught-free ventilation system, which may supply both hot and cooled air. Air may be released downwardly towards the floor and/or upwardly between the seat pads.
- a light source may be fixed underneath the seat frame for illuminating the floor and the aisle between the seats.
- the crucial feature of the invention is that it is devoid of a separate seat frame, since the new solution comprises the seat portion and the support frame as a monolithically integrated piece.
- the integrated design achieves such advantages as strength, easy mounting, a reduced number of parts and reduced weight, resulting in enhanced overall economy over the service life of the vehicle.
- the seat frame may have a design such that the passenger is seated with his back against the wall transversely to the direction of travel, the backrest being a separate piece parallel with the wall or the backrest protruding from the wall panel.
- the invention yields maximum benefit when the seat frame is made in one single piece with the wall panel.
- This design does not require the seat frame to be fixed to the wall at the mounting stage, and ventilation ducts or heating ducts and electric wires, necessary for integrated lighting fixtures and the like, are significantly easier to install within the seat casing, since they do not require holes to be made in the wall.
- figure 1 is a rear view of the seat
- figure 2 is a side view of the seat
- figure 3 is an axonometric view of the detached seat parts.
- figure 4 shows an embodiment in which the seat frame is integrated in the wall panel of a vehicle
- figure 5 shows an embodiment in which both the seat frame, the backrest and the wall panel are integrated into one monolithic seat
- figure 6 shows an embodiment, in which the seat frame and the backrest are fixed to the wall of the vehicle so that the passengers are seated with their back against the wall transversely to the direction of travel, as in the London subway coaches.
- the seat consists of a bracket 2 fixed to the wall 1 of the vehicle, a seat board 3 on top of the bracket and a backrest 4.
- the bracket 2 and the seat board 3 are integrated into one single piece, which forms the seat frame.
- the seat frame 2, 3 is symmetrical, so that the same seat frame can be fixed both to the right-hand side and the left-hand side wall.
- the seat frame 2, 3 has fixing points 5 for the backrest 4 at both edges.
- the seat frame 2, 3 is a hollow casing, into which a ventilation inlet duct has been conducted, and the seat frame 2, 3 has openings 6, through which supply air is released into the interior of the vehicle in the manner indicated by arrows in figure 1.
- a light source 7 is provided below the seat frame 2, 3 for illuminating the floor and the aisle between the seats.
- the seat frame 2, 3 may also be equipped with an easily replaceable pad 8.
- the backrest may also be equipped with either a stationary or a replaceable pad 9.
- a hand rail 10 can be fixed to the backrest facing the aisle, for passengers in the aisle to grip and hold in order to keep their balance while the vehicle is in movement.
- Figure 4 shows a seat frame 2, 3 integrated in the wall panel 11 of the vehicle, the wall panel being attachable to the frame construction 12 of the wall of the vehicle.
- the seat is suitable both for motor vehicles and other vehicles, such as ships and boats.
