As a result, mixing of bubbles into the charged particle dispersion liquid 33 can be effectively prevented.
- the exhaust port 22 is preferably provided so that its substantially center is located on the bisector of the corner B. Since the approximate center of the exhaust port 22 is on the bisector of the corner B, it is possible to reliably discharge bubbles that are less likely to bias the charged particle dispersion 33 toward the exhaust port 22. - the angle A and the angle B at which the inlet 21 and the outlet 22 are arranged in the vicinity thereof are acute angles, that is, larger than 0 ° and not larger than 90 °. As a result, bubbles can be prevented from being mixed when the charged particle dispersion liquid 33 is injected.
- FIG. 4 is a diagram showing the results when the distances d and d ′ and the state of air bubble mixing into the charged particle dispersion liquid 33 are investigated.
- the evaluation “ ⁇ ”, evaluation “ ⁇ ”, and evaluation “X” are all the same as the evaluation “ ⁇ ”, evaluation “ ⁇ ”, and evaluation “X” in FIG.
- the charged particle dispersion liquid 33 is injected into the two sides constituting the corner A at the time of injection. Air bubbles remain in the vicinity of the apex of the corner A where the flow direction of the charged particle dispersion 33 flowing in is easy to control. Therefore, it is possible to effectively prevent bubbles from being mixed into the charged particle dispersion liquid 33.
- the shortest distance d 'between the exhaust port 22 and the apex of the corner B is set to 5 mm or less, particularly 3 mm or less, bubbles are formed in the vicinity of the apex of the corner B when the charged particle dispersion liquid 33 is injected. Is difficult to survive. As a result, the charged particle dispersion liquid 33 is filled in the liquid chamber R while air bubbles are reliably discharged, so that it is possible to effectively prevent the bubbles from being mixed into the charged particle dispersion liquid 33.

- the flow direction interface moves in a convex shape with respect to the traveling direction as Sla ⁇ Slb ⁇ Slc.
- the region between the charged particle dispersion liquid 33 and the side wall surface of the liquid chamber R such as the region V in FIG. An area where bubbles tend to remain is generated. Therefore, if the flow direction interface is convex with respect to the traveling direction, as a result, bubbles are likely to be mixed into the charged particle dispersion liquid 33.
- FIG. 5 (b) shows a case where injection is performed at a relatively slow flow rate, such as injection by the normal pressure injection method as described above (for example, injection by the normal pressure injection method).
- FIG. 6 is a schematic diagram showing a flow direction interface over time.
- the electrophoretic medium 30 that is the dispersion medium of the charged particle dispersion 33 has a low viscosity and a solvent is used, the progress of the charged particle dispersion 33 on the wall surface portion. Because the speed is particularly fast, the interface in the direction of flow tends to be concave with respect to the direction of travel and is at the “tilt I”.
- the interface when the charged particle dispersion liquid 33 is injected from the injection port 21 at a relatively slow flow rate moves as S2a ⁇ S2b ⁇ S2c ⁇ S2d.
- the flow direction interface is If it is concave with respect to the traveling direction, the charged particle dispersion liquid 33 is filled in the liquid chamber R without leaving bubbles in the liquid chamber R. Consequently, the charged particle dispersion liquid 33 It is possible to effectively prevent air bubbles from entering.
- injection of the charged particle dispersion liquid 33 into the injection port 21 is performed at such a speed that the interface in the flow direction becomes concave with respect to the traveling direction. It is effective in preventing contamination.
- FIG. 6 is a view schematically showing a cross section in the direction of the VI-VI line in FIG. 1 (a), and is a cross-sectional view schematically showing the periphery of the injection port 21.
- FIG. For simplification of the drawing, the charged particle dispersion liquid 33 in the liquid chamber R is not shown in FIG.
- the inlet 21 is a hole that penetrates the first substrate 12 from the opening end surface 21a on the outer side of the image display medium 10 to the opening end surface 21b on the liquid chamber R side. It has an open end surface indicated by an end surface 21d. The size of the passageway of the inlet 21 is not constant.
- the passage of the inlet 21 is preferably as wide as possible in order to prevent clogging by the charged particles 31 during the injection of the charged particle dispersion liquid 33.
- the width of the passage of the inlet 21 is represented by the shortest diameter dlmin among the diameters dl of each cross section of the inlet 21.
- the cross section on the liquid chamber R side is wider than the cross section indicated by the cross section Da, so the diameter dl of the cross section Da is the largest compared to the diameter dl for the other cross sections. Shorter. Therefore, the diameter dl for the cross section Da becomes the diameter dlmin.
- a preferable width of the passage of the injection port 21 will be specifically described.
- the diameters of the passageways are different and have different diameters. Dlmin (10, 20, 25, 30, 50, 100, 1000, 5000 / zm In each of the injection ports 21 having a), whether or not clogging by the charged particles 31 occurred during the injection of the charged particle dispersion liquid 33 was confirmed.
- the inlets having different diameters dlmin have similar shapes, and the diameter d2min (see Fig. 8) at the exhaust port 22 is 10 m.
- the diameter d2min is the shortest diameter among the diameters d2 of the cross section of the exhaust port 22.
- the charged particle 31 that is the dispersoid of the charged particle dispersion liquid 33 the produced phthalocyanine pigment is used. Particles coated with rosin were used.
- the average particle diameter, that is, the number median diameter, of the particles was measured using an Accusizer manufactured by P article Sizing Systems, and was about 5 ⁇ m.
- FIG. 7 is a diagram showing the results of the above experiment.
- the evaluation “ ⁇ ” indicates that the charged particle dispersion liquid 33 could be injected into the liquid chamber R without clogging, and the evaluation “ ⁇ ” indicated that the charged particle dispersion liquid 33 was liquid while there was a slight stagnation.
- the evaluation “X” indicates that the charged particle dispersion 33 was not able to be injected into the liquid chamber R because the charged particles 31 were clogged.
- the charged particle dispersion 33 cannot be injected into the liquid chamber R at a relatively high concentration C of 20 wt% or more, but the concentration C is 10 wt%. In the following cases, the charged particle dispersion liquid 33 could be injected into the liquid chamber R.
- the concentration C is relatively high, and the charged particle 31 stays at 20 wt% or more, but the concentration C is in the range of 0.1 wt% to 50 wt%.
- the charged particle dispersion liquid 33 could be injected into the liquid chamber R.
- the shortest diameter dlmin of the diameter dl with respect to the cross section of the injection port 21 is set to about 5 times or more the average particle diameter of the charged particles 31, thereby preventing clogging of the charged particles 31 during injection. It shows that it is effective. Furthermore, if the diameter dlmin is about 6 times or more the average particle diameter of the charged particles 31, this indicates that it is effective in preventing clogging of the charged particles 31.
- the diameter dlmin at the inlet 21 is the same as that in the image display medium 10. Obviously, it can be expanded to a size that does not affect the display of the image.
- the shape of the inlet 21 is that the diameter dl obtained with respect to the opening end surface 21b on the liquid chamber R side at the inlet 21 is the longest, that is, the opening end surface 21b at the inlet 21 has the widest shape. Is the most preferred.
- the thickness of the liquid chamber R in the image display medium 10 is only the thickness of several charged particles.
- the opening end surface 21b on the liquid chamber R side is configured to be a surface substantially perpendicular to the thickness direction of the liquid chamber R, the charged particles 31 are likely to stay near the opening end surface 21b. Charged particles 31 are likely to clog the inlet 21 inside. Therefore, it is effective to make it difficult to stay in the vicinity of the opening end face 21b as a measure for preventing clogging of the charged particles 31 into the injection port 21 during injection.
- the injection port 21 By forming the injection port 21 so that the opening end surface 21b, which is the end surface on the outlet side of the charged particle dispersion 33, becomes the widest, the charged particles 31 are less likely to stay near the opening end surface 21b. It is possible to prevent clogging with the charged particles 31 during the injection of the dispersion liquid 33. Even if the cross section with the longest diameter dl does not coincide with the opening end face 21b, if the cross section in the vicinity of the opening end face 21b is substantially the opening end face 21b, the above charged particles 31 It has the effect of preventing clogging.
- the shape of the injection port 21 is expanded and tapered toward the opening end surface 21b on the liquid chamber R side. It is preferable to have the part 21c.
- the outflow direction of the charged particle dispersion 33 flowing out from the opening end surface 21b to the liquid chamber R is inclined with respect to the interface between the opening end surface 21b and the liquid chamber R. It becomes the direction. Therefore, the charged particle dispersion liquid 33 flows out smoothly from the injection port 21 to the liquid chamber R, and as a result, clogging by the charged particles 31 during the injection of the charged particle dispersion liquid 33 can be prevented.
- the tapered portion 21c may be formed in the middle of the injection port 21 as in the present embodiment, or between the entire injection port 21, that is, between the opening end surface 21a and the opening end surface 21b. It may be formed.
- a dispersion guide member 18 having an inclined surface 18a facing the opening end surface 21b is provided along one side of the opening 17a that is opened in a rectangular shape of the gap spacer 17.
- the dispersion guide member 18 is a member that functions to direct the flow of the charged particle dispersion 33 that also causes the opening end force of the injection port 21 to flow from the peripheral edge of the liquid chamber R toward the inner region. By providing this dispersion liquid guide member 18, it is possible to prevent the charged particles 31 from staying in the vicinity of the opening end face 21b. As a result, the charged particles 31 are clogged during the injection of the charged particle dispersion liquid 33. Can be prevented.

- FIG. 8 is a view schematically showing a cross section in the direction of the line VIII-VIII in FIG. 1 (a), and is a cross-sectional view schematically showing the periphery of the exhaust port 22.
- the charged particle dispersion liquid 33 in the liquid chamber R is not shown in FIG.
- the size of the passage of the exhaust port 22 does not block the passage by the charged particles 31 during the injection of the charged particle dispersion 33, and the charged particles 31 flow out of the exhaust port 22 during the injection. It is preferable that it is not wide enough.
- the width of the passage of the exhaust port 22 is represented by the shortest diameter d2min among the diameters d2 of each cross section of the exhaust port 22.
- the cross section of the exhaust port 22 becomes smaller as it proceeds to the liquid chamber R side. Therefore, the gas is discharged to the outside.
- the diameter d2 of the outer periphery 22d of the opening end surface 22a on the side to be cut is the shortest compared to the diameter d2 for the other cross sections. Accordingly, the diameter d2 with respect to the opening end face 22a is the diameter d2min.

- the diameter d2 of the cross section of the exhaust port 22 is the shortest !, and the diameter d2min force is preferably larger than about 1 times the average particle diameter of the charged particles 31. . That is, since the diameter d2min exceeds about 1 times the average particle diameter of the charged particles 31, it is possible to suppress clogging of the exhaust port 22 by the charged particles 31 during the injection of the charged particle dispersion 33. This indicates that the flow of the charged particle dispersion liquid 33 into the liquid chamber R is not inhibited, and as a result, the liquid chamber R can be filled with the charged particle dispersion liquid 33.
- the diameter d2 of the cross section of the exhaust port 22 is the shortest and is preferably less than about 4 times the average particle diameter of the diameter d2min force charged particles 31. It is. Therefore, incomplete sealing of the exhaust port 22 due to the charged particles 31 that flowed out can be prevented, and as a result, the liquid tightness of the liquid chamber R can be maintained even after sealing.
- the width of the exhaust port 22, that is, the diameter d2min is the average particle diameter r. If the diameter of the smallest circle containing three circles is about ((2 3 + l) Z3) r) or less, the outflow of the charged particles 31 from the exhaust port 22 can be effectively suppressed.
- the opening end face 22a By forming the opening end face 22a to be the narrowest (the diameter d2 at the opening end face 22a is the shortest), the charged particle dispersion 33 is prevented from flowing into the exhaust port 22 by the charged particles 31.
