技術分野
[0001] 本発明は、光ファイバケーブルの終端構造、該終端構造の形成方法、および該終 端構造を有する光ファイバケーブルに関する。
背景技術
[0002] 一般に、光通信システムにおいて、光ファイバケーブルの終端部同士、又は光ファ ィバケーブルの終端部と他の光デバイスとの間で着脱可能な接続を行うために光コ ネクタが使用されている。従来の光コネクタとしては、例えば、特許文献 1に開示され ているものがある。光ファイバケーブルは、様々な種類のものが存在する。例えば、芯 線の材質の種類 (ガラス光ファイバケーブルまたはプラスチック光ファイバケーブル) 、芯線の構造の種類 (ステップインデックス型または屈折率分布型)、光の伝播モード の種類 (マルチモードまたはシングルモード)、光ファイバ芯線の数 (単芯または多芯 )などである。一般的に共通する構成として、プラスチック光ファイバは、光ファイバ芯 線、光ファイバ芯線を保護するために該芯線の外周に沿って長手方向に延びるよう に配置される繊維状抗張力体、および該繊維状抗張力体上に配置される被覆を有 している。
[0003] 光コネクタは、上記した構成の光ファイバケーブルを、その終端部において、光ファ ィバ芯線を固定することなぐ被覆及び繊維状抗張力体を確実にかしめて (crimp) 固定できることが要求される。光ファイバ芯線を固定することなぐ被覆及び繊維状抗 張力体を力しめて固定するために、従来の光コネクタは、主として光ファイバケープ ルの被覆を力しめる部位と、主として繊維状抗張力体をかしめる部位という 2つのかし め部位を有している。これは、被覆と繊維状抗張力体を同時に 1個所のみで力しめた 場合、繊維状抗張力体に対するかしめ力が不十分になり、繊維状抗張力体を確実 に固定することができないためである。
[0004] このため、特許文献 1に開示の光コネクタにおいて、抗張力線露出部分 33の抗張 力線 14は、主にカシメリング 22の先端側部分 25と力シメ座 23の先端側部分との間 に挟持される。外被 13及び抗張力線 14は、主にカシメリング 22の基端側部分 26と 力シメ座 23の基端側部分 29との間に挟持される。そして、抗張力線 14と外被 13とは 、それぞれ光コネクタの結線部 21として固定された状態となる(前記符号は、いずれ も特許文献 1の記載に従う。 )oこのため、特許文献 1の図面からも明らかなように、従 来の光コネクタでは、光ファイバケーブルの終端部を力しめて固定するのに、複雑な 形状の部品を使用することが必要であった。これにより光コネクタの製造コストが増加 する、光ファイバケーブルの終端部をかしめる際に複雑な操作が必要とされる、という 問題があった。

発明が解決しょうとする課題
[0006] 上記した従来技術の問題点を解決するため、本発明は、光ファイバ芯線を固定す ることなし〖こ、簡易な操作により被覆及び繊維状抗張力体を確実に固定することがで きる、光ファイバケーブルの終端構造の形成方法を提供することを目的とする。本発 明は、該方法により形成される光ファイバケーブルの終端構造、ならびに該終端構造 を有する光ファイバケーブルを提供することを目的とする。
課題を解決するための手段

発明の効果
[0014] 本発明の光ファイバケーブルの終端部形成方法は、環状部材を縮径するように塑 性変形させるという簡単な操作によって、光ファイバケーブルの終端部において、光 ファイバ芯線を固定することなしに、円筒部材および環状部材が、繊維状抗張力体 および被覆を挟持し、確実に固定することができる。この操作は、例えばカゝしめ治具( crimping tool)を用いて環状部材を外側力も力しめるという、 1回の操作で行うこと ができる。
[0015] 本発明の光ファイバケーブル終端構造では、光ファイバケーブルの終端部におい て、繊維状抗張力体および被覆が、円筒部材および環状部材によって 1個所で挟持 され、固定されている。したがって、繊維状抗張力体と被覆とが異なる部位で力しめ て固定されている従来の光ファイバケーブルの終端構造に比べて、本発明の光ファ ィバケーブル終端構造は、コンパクトな構造にすることができる。本発明の光ファイバ ケーブル終端構造の環状部材は、繊維状抗張力体および被覆を 1個所で固定する 構造である。したがって、従来の光ファイバケーブルの終端構造に使用される、繊維 状抗張力体と被覆とを異なる部位で力しめて固定する部材に比べて、前記環状部材 を、 /J、さくすることができる。
これは、光ファイバケーブルの終端部に光コネクタを設ける場合に、光ファイバケー ブルの終端構造を光コネクタハウジングに収納する上で好ましい。また、光コネクタハ ウジングの大きさを小さくすることができる。その結果、光コネクタの大きさも小さくする ことができる。
また、本発明の光ファイバケーブル終端構造は、終端構造が複雑な構造にならな い。したがって、該終端構造を収納する光コネクタハウジングに対する形状および構 造上の制約が少なぐ様々な光コネクタに適用可能である。本発明の光ファイバケー ブル終端構造は、分岐用の箱においても適用できる。
なお、本願の光ファイバケーブル終端構造の環状部材は、光コネクタハウジングへ の係止部材としても使用することができる。

[0018] 本発明の光ファイバケーブルの終端部形成方法は、光ファイバ芯線と、金属または セラミックス製の円筒部材と、デュロメータ硬さ D (JIS K7215)が 60以下の合成榭 脂製の弾性部材と、繊維状抗張力体と、被覆と、金属製の環状部材と、が内側から 外側にこの順に配置された状態で、前記環状部材を縮径するように塑性変形させて 、前記弾性管状部材、前記繊維状抗張力体および前記被覆を、前記円筒部材と前 記環状部材とで挟持することを特徴とする。
以下、図面を参照して本発明の光ファイバケーブルの終端部形成方法の具体的な 手順について説明する。
[0019] 図 1〜図 6は、本発明の光ファイバケーブルの終端部形成方法の第 1実施形態 (以 下、「本発明の第 1の方法」という。)を説明するための図である。図 1〜図 3、図 5は、 光ファイバケーブルの一部が切断された斜視図である。図 1に示す光ファイバケープ ル 10において、光ファイバ芯線 11の外周上には、光ファイバ芯線 11の外周に沿つ て長手方向に延びるように繊維状抗張力体 12が配置されている。繊維状抗張力体 1 2は、軸方向への引っ張り力に対して光ファイバ芯線 11を保護するものである。繊維 状抗張力体 12上には、被覆 13が配置されている。
[0020] 本発明の第 1の方法では、図 2に示すように、金属またはセラミックス製の円筒部材 1と、合成樹脂製の弾性管状部材 2と、を光ファイバケーブル 10の終端部力も挿入し て、光ファイバ芯線 11と繊維状抗張力体 12との間に配置させる。ここで、円筒部材 1 および弾性管状部材 2は、互いに組み合わせた状態、すなわち円筒部材 1の外周上 に弾性管状部材 2を配置した状態、で挿入される。
[0021] 円筒部材 1は、光ファイバ芯線 11と繊維状抗張力体 12との間に配置できるように、 光ファイバ芯線 11の外径より大きな内径を有している。円筒部材 1の内径は 0. 4〜1 . 3mmであることが好ましい。円筒部材 1の外径は 0. 5〜1. 7mmであることが好ま しい。円筒部材 1の厚さは 0. 05〜0. 2mmであることが好ましい。円筒部材 1の寸法 の一例を挙げると、例えば、内径 0. 6mm、外径 0. 8mm、厚さ 0. 1mmのものが挙 げられる。
図 2に示す状態において、円筒部材 1の内側で光ファイバ芯線 11がある程度動け ることが好ましい。このため、円筒部材 1の内径を光ファイバ芯線 11の外径で除した 値が、 1. 1〜3であることが好ましぐ 1. 1〜2であることがより好ましい。
[0022] 円筒部材 1の長さは特に限定されないが、後述する環状部材 3の長さと同程度であ る力、またはそれ以上であることが好ましい。なお、円筒部材 1は機械的強度に優れ た金属材料またはセラミックス材料で作製されている。その理由は、環状部材 3を縮 径するように塑性変形させて、光ファイバケーブル 11の外周上に、光ファイバケープ ル 11の中心方向に向けて外力をカ卩えた際、円筒部材 1が変形しな 、ようにするため である。円筒部材 1を構成する金属材料としては、機械的強度および成形性に優れ、 比較的安価であることからステンレス鋼、銅、インコロイ合金 (商品名)、普通鋼等が好 ましい。円筒部材 1を構成するセラミックス材料としては、ジルコユアが挙げられる。
[0023] 弾性管状部材 2は、円筒部材 1の外径よりも大きな内径を有し、デュロメータ硬さ D ( JIS K7215)が 60以下の合成樹脂で作製されている。デュロメータ硬さ D (JIS K7 215)が 60以下の合成樹脂の具体例としては、例えば、ポリ塩化ビニルや、ポリェチ レンを含むポリオレフイン系榭脂、ウレタン系榭脂、シリコーンゴム等が挙げられる。弹 性管状部材 2は、デュロメータ硬さ D (JIS K7215)が 50以下であることが好ましい。 また、弾性管状部材 2は、デュロメータ硬さ A (JIS K7215)が 10以上であることが好 ましぐ 40以上であることがより好ましい。
弾性管状部材 2の内径は 0. 45〜2. 5mmであることが好ましい。弾性管状部材 2 の外径は 0. 65-3. 1mmであることが好ましい。弾性管状部材 2の厚さは 0. 1〜0. 3mmであることが好ましい。弾性管状部材 2の寸法の一例を挙げると、例えば、内径 0. 95mm,外径 1. 25mm、厚さ 0. 15mmのもの力挙げられる。
なお、円筒部材 1と弾性管状部材 2との間は、実質的にすき間がなく密着しているこ とが好ましい。
[0024] 円筒部材 1および弾性管状部材 2を光ファイバケーブル 10の終端部力も挿入する 際、操作が容易であることから互いに組み合わせた状態で挿入することが好まし 、。 但し、両者を別々に光ファイバケーブル 10の終端部力も挿入してもよい。この場合、 例えば円筒部材 1を光ファイバケーブル 10の終端部力も挿入して、光ファイバ芯線 1 1と繊維状抗張力体 12との間に配置させる。その後、弾性管状部材 2を光ファイバケ 一ブル 10の終端部から挿入して、円筒部材 1と繊維状抗張力体 12との間に配置さ せる。
また、円筒部材 1と弾性管状部材 2は、互いに独立した部材として構成しなくてもよ い。例えば、円筒部材 1の外周上にデュロメータ硬さ D (JIS K7215)が 60以下の合 成榭脂の塗膜を形成することによって、弾性管状部材 2を設けてもょ 、。
[0025] 次に、図 3に示すように、被覆 13の外径より大きな内径を有する金属製の環状部材 3が光ファイバケーブル 10の被覆 13の外周上に配置される。ここで、環状部材 3は、 円筒部材 1および弾性管状部材 2が挿入された部位の直上の、被覆 13の外周上に 配置される。図 3では、光ファイバ芯線 11、円筒部材 1、弾性管状部材 2、繊維状抗 張力体 12、被覆 13および環状部材 3が内側から外側に向けてこの順で配置されて いる。
図 4は、図 3における光ファイバケーブル 10の環状部材 3が配置された部分の断面 図である。
[0026] 図 3に示す状態から、環状部材 3を縮径するように塑性変形させることについて説 明する。図 5と図 6は、環状部材 3を塑性変形させた後の状態を示している。図 6は、 図 5の光ファイバケーブルの塑性変形させた環状部材 3を配置した部分の断面図で ある。環状部材 3を塑性変形させて、図 5に示す状態とするには、例えばカゝしめ治具 を用いて、環状部材 3を外側力も力しめればょ 、。
環状部材 3を縮径させることによって、光ファイバケーブル 10の外周上に、光フアイ バケーブル 10の中心方向に向力 外力が加わる。この外力によって、弾性管状部材 2、繊維状抗張力体 12および被覆 13が、円筒部材 1と環状部材 3とで挟持される。光 ファイバ芯線 11の外周上には円筒部材 1が配置されているため、光ファイバ芯線 11 に過剰な外力が加わるおそれがない。また、円筒部材 1の外周上には弾性管状部材 2が配置されているため、弾性環状部材 2、繊維状抗張力体 12および被覆 13は、円 筒部材 1と環状部材 3との間で挟持される。このような構成をとることで、繊維状抗張 力体 12および被覆 13は 1個所で同時に挟持されるにもかかわらず、光ファイバ芯線 11が固定されることなしに、繊維状抗張力体 12および被覆 13が、円筒部材 1と環状 部材 3とによって確実に固定される。 [0027] 環状部材 3の長さは特に限定されな 、が、環状部材 3を縮径するように塑性変形さ せた際に、円筒部材 1に過剰な外力が加わって変形するおそれがなぐその一方で 、被覆 13および繊維状抗張力体 12を十分挟持することができるような長さであること が好ましい。このため環状部材 3の長さは、被覆 13の外径の 1. 5〜5倍であることが 好ましぐより好ましくは 2. 5〜3. 5倍である。環状部材 3の長さと、被覆 13の外径と の関係の具体例としては、外径 2. 8mmの被覆 13に対して、その 2. 86倍に相当す る長さ 8mmの環状部材 3の使用が挙げられる。
環状部材 3は、例えば、力しめ具を用いて力しめた際に、縮径するように塑性変形 できることが必要である。このため環状部材 3を構成する金属材料としては、銅または アルミニウムが好ましい。
[0028] なお、図 1〜図 3、図 5の光ファイバケーブル 10では、被覆 13から光ファイバ芯線 1 1および繊維状抗張力体 12が露出した状態で示されており、光ファイバ芯線 11と繊 維状抗張力体 12との間に配置される円筒部材 1および弾性管状部材 2が被覆 13か ら露出した状態で示されている力 これらのエッジは面一になつていてもよい。また、 図 1〜図 3、図 5に示す態様において、被覆 13から露出している繊維状抗張力体 12 を被覆 13上に折り返して、被覆 13と環状部材 3との間に繊維状抗張力体 12が配置 された状態で、環状部材 3は縮径するように塑性変形してもよい。これらの点は後述 する本発明の第 2の方法についても同様である。
[0029] 図 5において、環状部材 3は、光ファイバケーブル 10の長手方向から見た形状が六 角形になるように塑性変形している。環状部材 3が縮径されて光ファイバケーブル 10 の外周上にその中心方向に向力う外力が加わる限り、環状部材 3の塑性変形後の形 状はこれに限定されない。例えば、塑性変形後の環状部材 3は、光ファイバケーブル 10の長手方向から見た形状が円形、三角形、四角形または他の多角形の形状であ つてもよい。図 11は、円形に塑性変形した時の光ファイバケーブルの環状部材 3が 配置された部分の断面図である。また、環状部材 3は、全体が均等に縮径されること は必ずしも必要ではない。環状部材 3の縮径によって、光ファイバケーブル 10の外 周上にその中心方向に向力う外力が加わるのであれば、環状部材 3は少なくとも一 部が縮径するように塑性変形したのでもよ ヽ。一部が縮径される塑性変形の例として は、具体的には、光ファイバケーブル 10の長手方向から見た形状が楕円状になるよ うに、環状部材 3が塑性変形する場合が挙げられる。なお、これらの点は、後述する 本発明の第 2の方法についても同様である。
[0030] 図 7〜図 10は、本発明の光ファイバケーブルの終端部形成方法の第 2実施形態( 以下、「本発明の第 2の方法」という。)を説明するための図であり、光ファイバケープ ルが一部を切断した斜視図として示されている。
図 7に示す光ファイバケーブル 1( は、図 1に示した光ファイバケーブル 10の構成 に加えて、光ファイバ芯線 11の外周に沿って長手方向に延びるよう配置された弾性 管状部材 14を有している。すなわち、図 7に示す光ファイバケーブル 10' では、弹 性管状部材 14が光ファイバ芯線 11を温度変化および外部応力から保護するための 保護層として設けられている。弾性管状部材 14は、デュロメータ硬さ DCFIS K7215 )が 60以下の合成樹脂で作製されている。デュロメータ硬さ D(JIS K7215)が 60以 下の合成樹脂としては、本発明の第 1の方法における弾性管状部材 2の材料として 例示したもの力も適宜選択することができる。
弾性管状部材 2の内径は 0. 45〜2. 5mmであることが好ましい。弾性管状部材 2 の外径は 0. 65-3. 1mmであることが好ましい。弾性管状部材 14の厚さは 0. 1〜0 . 3mmであることが好ましい。
[0031] 本発明の第 2の方法では、図 8に示すように、金属またはセラミックス製の円筒部材 1' を光ファイバケーブル 10' の終端部力も挿入して、光ファイバ芯線 11と弾性管 状部材 14との間に配置させる。円筒部材 は、光ファイバ芯線 11と弾性管状部材 14との間に配置できるように、光ファイバ芯線 11の外径より大きな内径を有し、かつ 弾性管状部材 14の内径より小さな外径を有する。なお、円筒部材 と弾性管状部 材 14との間は、実質的にすき間がなく密着していることが好ましい。
円筒部材 は、本発明の第 1の方法における円筒部材 1と同様のものである。し たがって、円筒部材 1' の外径、内径、厚さおよび長さの好適範囲、ならびに好適な 構成材料は円筒部材 1に関する記載と同様である。
[0032] 次に、図 9に示すように、被覆 13の外径よりも大きな内径を有する金属製の環状部 材 3が光ファイバケーブル 10' の被覆 13の外周上に配置される。ここで、環状部材 3は、円筒部材 が挿入されている部分における被覆 13の外周上に配置される。 したがって、図 9では、光ファイバ芯線 11、円筒部材 、弾性管状部材 14、繊維状 抗張力体 12、被覆 13および環状部材 3が内側から外側に向けてこの順で配置され ている。
環状部材 3は、本発明の第 1の方法における環状部材 3と同様のものである。した がって、環状部材 3の外径、内径、厚さおよび長さの好適範囲、ならびに好適な構成 材料は、本発明の第 1の方法における環状部材 3に関する記載と同様である。
[0033] 図 9に示す状態から、環状部材 3を縮径するように塑性変形させる。図 10は、環状 部材 3を塑性変形させた後の状態を示している。環状部材 3を塑性変形させて、図 1 0に示す状態とするには、例えばかしめ治具を用いて、環状部材 3を外側からかしめ ればよい。
図 9および図 10における環状部材 3が配置された部分での断面図は、円筒部材 1 が円筒部材 、弾性管状部材 2が弾性管状部材 14に変更になる以外は、図 4、図 6と同様である。
環状部材 3を縮径させることによって、光ファイバケーブル 10の外周上に、光フアイ バケーブル 10の中心方向に向力 外力が加わる。この外力によって、弾性管状部材 14、繊維状抗張力体 12および被覆 13が、円筒部材 1' と環状部材 3とで挟持される 光ファイバ芯線 11の外周上には円筒部材! が配置されているため、光ファイバ芯 線 11に過剰な外力が加わるおそれがない。また、円筒部材 は弾性管状部材 14 の内側に配置されているため、弾性管状部材 14、繊維状抗張力体 12および被覆 1 3は、円筒部材 と環状部材 3との間で挟持される。このような構成を取ることで、繊 維状抗張力体 12および被覆 13は、 1個所で同時に挟持されるにもかかわらず、光フ アイバ芯線 11が固定されることなしに、繊維状抗張力体 12および被覆 13は確実に 固定される。
[0034] 上記した本発明の第 1および第 2の方法は、図 1〜図 10に示した光ファイバケープ ル 10, 10' 以外の構造を有する光ファイバケーブルにも用いることができる。例えば 、光ファイバ芯線を複数有する多芯光ファイバケーブルにも用いることができる。本発 明の第 1の方法を多芯光ファイバケーブルに用いる場合、個々の光ファイバ芯線に ついて、光ファイバ芯線と繊維状抗張力体との間に円筒部材および弾性管状部材を 配置してから、光ファイバケーブルの被覆の外周上に配置した環状部材を縮径する ように塑性変形させる。本発明の第 2の方法を多芯光ファイバケーブルに用いる場合 、個々の光ファイバ芯線について、光ファイバ芯線と弾性管状部材との間に円筒部 材を配置してから、光ファイバケーブルの被覆の外周上に配置した環状部材を縮径 するように塑性変形させる。
[0035] また、本発明の方法において、図示しない他の態様として、本発明の第 1の方法を 、図 7に示す光ファイバケーブル 10' のような光ファイバ芯線 11の保護層として弾性 管状部材 14が設けられた光ファイバケーブルに用いてもよい。この場合、円筒部材 1 および弾性管状部材 2はファイバケーブル 10' の終端部力も挿入され、光ファイバ 芯線 11の保護層である弾性管状部材 14と、繊維状抗張力体 12と、の間に配置され 、上記した手順で、繊維状抗張力体 12および被覆 13は、円筒部材 1と環状部材 3と により挟持される。これにより、繊維状抗張力体 12および被覆 13が、円筒部材 1と環 状部材 3とで挟持され、固定される。
[0036] また、本発明は、図 5および図 10に示した光ファイバケーブル 10, 1( の終端構 造、および該終端構造を有する光ファイバケーブルも提供する。
本発明の光ファイバケーブルおよびその終端構造において、光ファイバ芯線の構 造および材質は特に限定されず、公知の光ファイバケーブルで使用されている光フ アイバ芯線の構造および材質力 広く選択することができる。芯線の構造は、コアお よびクラッドからなり、該芯線の導光部をなす中心部と、該中心部の外周を被覆する 中心被覆部(芯線外周)と、で構成されることが好ましい。中心部の構造としては、ス テツプインデックス(Step Index)型(SI型)の構造であっても、屈折率分布 (Grade d Index)型 (GI型)の構造であってもよい。帯域が高帯域であり通信容量が多く確 保できる GI型であることが好まし 、。
また、光ファイバ芯線の光伝播モードに関して、シングルモードであってもよぐマル チモードであってもよい。
[0037] 光ファイバ芯線の中心部の材質としては特に限定されず、ガラスや石英ガラスのよ うな無機系材料であってもよぐ含フッ素榭脂、ポリメチルメタタリレート(PMMA)榭 脂、フッ素化 PMMA榭脂、重水素化 PMMA榭脂のような樹脂材料であってもよい。 柔軟性に優れ、光コネクタを組立てる際の操作が容易であることから、榭脂材料が好 ましい。榭脂材料の中でも、近赤外領域の波長吸収損失が少なぐ使用できる光の 波長領域が広いことから、含フッ素榭脂が好ましぐなかでも非晶質透明含フッ素榭 脂が好ましぐ主鎖に環構造を有する非晶質透明含フッ素榭脂が、伝送損失が低ぐ 使用できる光の波長領域が広ぐ実質的使用可能温度範囲も広く最も好ましい。ここ で芯線の中心部の材質力 例えば含フッ素榭脂であり、芯線の中心部が含フッ素榭 脂からなるという表現は、中心部を構成する基礎となる樹脂が含フッ素榭脂であること を意味する。すなわち中心部の材料は、基礎となる含フッ素榭脂に加えて屈折率調 整剤 (ドーパント)等を含む榭脂組成物であることを意味する。
光ファイバ芯線の中心被覆部の材料としては、価格、強度等の点から PMMA榭脂 が好ましい。
本発明の光ファイバケーブルおよびその終端構造において、光ファイバ芯線は GI 型の榭脂製のものであることが好まし 、。 GI型の榭脂製の光ファイバ芯線を有する光 ファイバケーブル (以下、「GI型榭脂製光ファイバケーブル」という。)は、ファイバケー ブル同士の終端部同士の接続が容易であるため、光通信ネットワークに使用するの に好適であり、特に該ネットワークの末端部分での使用に好適である。該ネットワーク の末端部分では光ファイバケーブルを接続する部分が多数必要であり、例えば 1つ のネットワークにおいて数百箇所の接続部分が必要となる。 GI型榭脂製光ファイバケ 一ブルであれば、この接続操作が容易になる。
本発明の光ファイバケーブル終端構造を GI型榭脂製光ファイバケーブルに適用す ることで、この接続操作がさらに容易になる。従来の光ファイバケーブルの終端構造 は、繊維状抗張力体と被覆とを異なる部位で力しめて固定する構造であったため、 最低限 2回の力しめ動作が必要であつたのに対して、本発明の光ファイバケーブル 終端構造では、繊維状抗張力体および被覆を、円筒部材および環状部材によって 1 個所で固定する構造であるため、 1回の操作で環状部材を縮径するよう塑性変形さ せればよいからである。これにより、ネットワーク施工時の手間が大幅に低減される。 なお、本発明の光ファイバケーブルおよびその終端構造において光ファイバ芯線 の外径としては、 400〜1000 111でぁることカ 子ましぃ。またケーブルに配置される 芯線の本数は、 1〜4本が好ましぐ 1, 2本がより好ましい。
[0039] 繊維状抗張力体の繊維としては、ァラミド繊維、ポリエチレンテレフタレート(PET) 繊維、炭素繊維、ガラス繊維等が使用できる。このうち、ァラミド繊維を用いることが、 剛性、柔軟性、繰り返し曲げによる繊維の破断を防止する点力 好ましい。またァラミ ド繊維のうち、ヤング率が高い、いわゆる高モジュラス仕様のもの力 少ない本数で 抗張力体として高荷重に耐えられ、コードを細く設計できるため好ましい。ここで高モ ジュラス仕様とは、初期モジュラスとして、 ASTM— D885Mで測定されるコードモジ ュラスが、 lOOGPa以上であることが好ましい。ァラミド繊維の代表例としては、東レ' デュポン社製の商品名「KEVLAR (登録商標)(K 49)」、帝人社製の商品名「Tw aron (登録商標) (D2200)」が挙げられる。
[0040] 被覆の材料としては、通常はポリ塩ィ匕ビュルが使用される力 ポリエチレンを含むポ リオレフイン榭脂、ウレタン系榭脂、シリコンゴム等、他の榭脂材料であってもよい。被 覆の厚さは 0. 2〜1. Ommであることが好ましい。また被覆の外径、すなわち光フアイ バケーブルの直径は、 1. 5〜5mmが好ましい。

請求の範囲
[1] 光ファイバ芯線と、金属またはセラミックス製の円筒部材と、デュロメータ硬さ D (JIS
K7215)が 60以下の合成樹脂製の弾性管状部材と、繊維状抗張力体と、被覆と、 金属製の環状部材と、が内側力 外側にこの順に設けられており、前記円筒部材と 前記環状部材とが、前記弾性管状部材、前記繊維状抗張力体および前記被覆を挟 持してなることを特徴とする光ファイバケーブルの終端構造。
[2] 光ファイバケーブルの終端構造であって、
前記光ファイバケーブルが、光ファイバ芯線、該光ファイバ芯線の外周に沿って長 手方向に延びるように配置される繊維状抗張力体、および該繊維状抗張力体上に 配置される被覆を有し、
前記光ファイバケーブルの終端部において、
前記光ファイバ芯線と前記繊維状抗張力体との間に、金属またはセラミックス製の 円筒部材と、該円筒部材の外周上に配置されるデュロメータ硬さ D CFIS K7215)が 60以下の合成樹脂製の弾性管状部材と、が配置され、
前記被覆の外周上には、金属製の環状部材が配置され、
前記円筒部材と前記環状部材とが前記弾性管状部材、前記繊維状抗張力体およ び前記被覆を挟持してなることを特徴とする光ファイバケーブルの終端構造。
[3] 光ファイバケーブルの終端構造であって、
前記光ファイバケーブルが、光ファイバ芯線、該光ファイバ芯線の外周に沿って長 手方向に延びるように配置されるデュロメータ硬さ D (JIS K7215)が 60以下の合成 榭脂製の弾性管状部材、該弾性管状部材の外周に沿って長手方向に延びるように 配置される繊維状抗張力体、および該繊維状抗張力体上に配置される被覆を有し、 前記光ファイバケーブルの終端部において、
前記光ファイバ芯線と前記弾性管状部材との間に、金属またはセラミックス製の円 筒部材が配置され、
前記被覆の外周上には、金属製の環状部材が配置され、
前記円筒部材と前記環状部材とが前記弾性管状部材、前記繊維状抗張力体およ び前記被覆を挟持してなることを特徴とする光ファイバケーブルの終端構造。
[4] 請求項 1な 、し 3の 、ずれかに記載の終端構造を有する光ファイバケーブル。
[5] 前記光ファイバ芯線は、榭脂製光ファイバ芯線である請求項 4に記載の光ファイバ ケーブル。
[6] 前記榭脂製光ファイバ芯線の導光部を構成する榭脂は、含フッ素榭脂である請求 項 5に記載の光ファイバケーブル。
[7] 光ファイバ芯線と、金属またはセラミックス製の円筒部材と、デュロメータ硬さ D (JIS
K7215)が 60以下の合成樹脂製の弾性管状部材と、繊維状抗張力体と、被覆と、 金属製の環状部材と、が内側力 外側にこの順に配置された状態で、前記環状部材 を縮径するように塑性変形させて、前記弾性管状部材、前記繊維状抗張力体および 前記被覆を、前記円筒部材と前記環状部材とで挟持することを特徴とする光ファイバ ケーブルの終端部形成方法。
[8] 光ファイバケーブルの終端部形成方法であって、
前記光ファイバケーブルが、光ファイバ芯線、該光ファイバ芯線の外周に沿って長 手方向に延びるように配置される繊維状抗張力体、および該繊維状抗張力体上に 配置される被覆カゝらなり、
金属またはセラミックス製の円筒部材と、該円筒部材の外周上に配置されるデュロメ ータ硬さ D CFIS K7215)が 60以下の合成樹脂製の弾性管状部材と、を前記光ファ ィバケーブルの終端部から挿入して、前記光ファイバ芯線と前記繊維状抗張力体と の間に配置し、
金属製の環状部材を前記被覆の外周上に配置し、
前記環状部材を縮径するように塑性変形させて、前記弾性管状部材、前記繊維状 抗張力体および前記被覆を、前記円筒部材と前記環状部材とで挟持することを特徴 とする光ファイバケーブルの終端部形成方法。
[9] 光ファイバケーブルの終端部形成方法であって、
前記光ファイバケーブルが、光ファイバ芯線、該光ファイバ芯線の外周に沿って長 手方向に延びるように配置されるデュロメータ硬さ D (JIS K7215)が 60以下の合成 榭脂製の弾性管状部材、該弾性管状部材の外周に沿って長手方向に延びるように 配置される繊維状抗張力体、および該繊維状抗張力体上に配置される被覆からなり 金属またはセラミックス製の円筒部材を前記光ファイバケーブルの終端部から挿入 して、前記芯線と前記弾性管状部材との間に配置し、
金属製の環状部材を前記被覆の外周上に配置し、
前記環状部材を縮径するように塑性変形させて、前記弾性管状部材、前記繊維状 抗張力体および前記被覆を、前記円筒部材と前記環状部材とで挟持することを特徴 とする光ファイバケーブルの終端部形成方法。
