Un vide (L) dans la rangée de produits amenés est identifié et comblé. Selon la présente invention, pour combler ce vide, seuls les produits (pv) du groupe de produits, situés devant le vide dans le sens d'amenée (a), sont prélevés du dispositif d'amenée au moyen du dispositif de transfert puis les produits (pn) situés derrière le vide sont avancés au moyen du dispositif d'amenée de manière à combler le vide. Ensuite, les produits du groupe de produits, situés devant le vide, sont réinsérés dans le dispositif d'amenée, après quoi le groupe de produits est prélevé du dispositif d'amenée en tant qu'unité au moyen du dispositif de transfert (15).
