- the present invention relates to a nasal dilator and its applications.
- Human nasal breathing (10,000 to 15,000 liters of air / day) has essential functions, such as warming and humidifying the air, before reaching the lungs. Its obstruction is therefore detrimental and uncomfortable, especially during sleep.
- Partial or complete closure of the nasal airway may have different origins. Infectious and allergic rhinosinusitis are the most common, on average 2 episodes / year in adults. They constitute the most frequent medical condition, responsible for the highest rate of school and professional absenteeism with self-medication in 70% of patients. - Chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) is the most common chronic disease; it affects 1 out of 6 people. CSR affects 75% of asthmatics and 50% of SCR patients have asthma according to the National Center for Health Statistics.

- Nasal dilators and nasal supports are a non-invasive alternative to chemical and surgical solutions.

- the most common device presently is a mechanical nasal dilator bonded to the outside of the nose including an extranasal adhesive tape, glued to the outside of the nostrils, marketed under the name BreatheRight®, which slightly increases the nasal breathing rate.
- BreatheRight® a mechanical nasal dilator glued as BreatheRight® can not be reused; it does not stick on wet or oily skin.
- people allergic to latex can not use it. It is embarrassing to blow your nose and it does not really reduce snoring because it does not fulfill its primary function of increasing the nasal breathing rate sufficiently.
- Another nasal dilator device is marketed under the name Nozovent®. This is a flexible device inserted into the nose, which spreads the nostrils.
- Nozovent® is provided with protuberances on the end plates of the device, to clamp the device to the intranasal lateral walls of the nostrils. They can therefore be a source of friction and irritation of the intranasal skin. The device hinders the entry of nostrils where touching is frequent. This is why many users unconsciously remove it while they sleep. In case of shock Nozovent® can get into the nostrils far and therefore presents a certain risk.
