Abstract

L'invention concerne une méthode de préparation de matières de faible densité, et un précurseur pour former une matière de faible densité. Un mélange aqueux d'un constituant primaire organique et d'un gonflant est formé, et le mélange est séché et éventuellement moulu pour former un précurseur expansible. Ce précurseur est ensuite cuit, l'activation du gonflant étant régulée de façon à s'effectuer dans une plage de température optimale préétablie. La régulation du gonflant peut s'accomplir par l'intermédiaire d'une gamme variée de moyens, y compris par distribution appropriée dans tout le précurseur; par adjonction d'un agent de neutralisation au précurseur; par modification des conditions de cuisson, c.-à-d. dans un environnement pauvre en oxygène ou riche en combustible; par chauffage au plasma; etc.
