Definitions
- the present invention relates to a device for coupling a pinion on a control rod, particularly a pinion intended to control any function, in particular a change of date, on a timepiece and more particularly on a wristwatch. .
- the known devices enabling this operation are generally of relatively complicated design, in particular requiring one or more movable pullbars held in position by one or more springs. These devices generally require a particular adjustment, they are therefore expensive and moreover use an important place in the movement of the watch.
- An object of the present invention is therefore to provide a device for coupling a pinion on a rod improved compared to known devices, that is to say free of the drawbacks mentioned above.
- Another object of the invention is to propose a device for coupling a pinion on a rod which is simple to manufacture, inexpensive, requiring few moving parts, being absolutely reliable in use and using only minimum space.
- a coupling device as described in the independent claim, particular variants and embodiments being described in the dependent claims.
- Figure 1 is a side view of a winding stem forming part of a coupling device according to the invention
- Figure 2 is a section along line II-II of the previous figure
- Figure 3 is a view front view of a pinion forming part of a coupling device according to the invention
- FIG. 4 is a section along the line IV-IV of FIG. 3
- FIG. 5 is a section along the line VV of the figure 3
- FIG. 6 is a view of the rod-pinion assembly in the uncoupled state
- FIG. 7 is a view of the same assembly in the coupled state.
- the winding stem 1 of FIG. 1 is a slender element essentially comprising a cylindrical uncoupling surface
- the coupling block 11 fixed on a bearing surface 12 following the uncoupling bearing surface 10.
- the coupling block 11 has here the general shape of a parallelepiped with a square base, the dimension A on the side of the square being worth the value D defined above, as can be seen particularly in FIG. 2.
- the height H of the parallelepiped is preferably equivalent or shorter than the length L mentioned above.
- the portion of the coupling block 11 turned towards the uncoupling surface 10 is cut so as to present two symmetrical oblique faces 110 and 111, acting as guide surfaces as will be seen below and having an angle at the top ⁇ between them, the edge common to the two faces 110 and 111 being drawn along a diagonal of the coupling block.
- the coupling block 11 is directly contiguous with the uncoupling surface 10, the edge separating the two oblique faces 110 and 111 being in contact with the front face of the decoupling surface.
- the winding stem 1 may also include other scopes according to other functions which are assigned to it, such as, for example, pull tab controls or the like.
- the winding stem is here equipped with a clearance range 13 limited by two bearing ranges of stops 14 and 15, the usefulness of which will be described below.
- a winding crown 16 is fixed to the end of the winding stem 1 projecting from the housing, not shown in the figure. Other components such as the bearings supporting the winding stem are not shown in the figures.
- the pinion 2 seen from the front in FIG. 3 and in two sections in FIGS. 4 and 5 essentially comprises a toothed pinion wheel 20 whose central portion is extended by a bearing 21 cut in the shape of a pyramid.
- the center of the pinion wheel 20 as well as of the bearing surface 21 are pierced with a hole 22, the cross section of which is square and whose edges have a length A + , slightly greater than the length A of the edge of the square forming the cross section of the coupling block 11, respectively of the diameter D of the uncoupling bearing surface 10.
- the bearing surface 21 is cut in the shape of a pyramid with a square cross section, the base of the pyramid being disposed against the side of the wheel toothed pinion 20, the edges of said square section forming an angle of 45 ° with the edges of the square of the hole 22.
- the intersection of the faces of the pyramid with a square cross section and the peripheral surfaces of the hole is cut in the shape of a pyramid with a square cross section, the base of the pyramid being disposed against the side of the wheel toothed pinion 20, the edges of said square section forming an angle of 45 ° with the edges of the square of the hole 22.
- opposite oblique faces 210 and 211 as seen in FIGS. 4 and 5, having an angle ⁇ between them.
- this angle ⁇ is equal to that described above.
- the opposite oblique faces 210 and 211 will act as bearing surfaces as described below.
- the axial length B of the pinion 2 - see Figure 4- is preferably equivalent to the height H of the coupling block 11.
- the pinion can first of all slide on the cylindrical bearing surface 10 having regard to the relative dimensions of the hole 22 and of the bearing surface 10. Then, one of the oblique bearing surfaces 210 or 211 of the bearing surface 21 of the pinion 2 is entered in contact with one of the two symmetrical oblique guide surfaces 110 or 111 of the coupling block 11.
- the traction movement which is applied to the rod 1 tends to rotate the pinion 2 by sliding one of the bearing surfaces 210 or 211 against the guide surface 110 or 111 against which it abuts, so as to align the square shape of the hole 22 of the pinion 2 with the square shape of the base of the coupling block 11.
- the axial movement of the rod 1 is limited, in the example considered, by the stop 17, fixed to the housing and the two bearing surfaces 14 and 15.
- the length of the clearance bearing 13 is therefore determined in order to allow the positioning of the pinion either on the uncoupling surface 10, or on the coupling block 11.
- the length L - FIG. 1 - of the cylindrical surface is slightly longer than the thickness B - FIG. 4 - of the pinion 2 in order to avoid inadvertent contact of the edges limiting the bearing surfaces 210 and 211 of the pinion 2 against the edges limiting the guide surfaces 110 and 111 of the coupling block 11.
- the winding stem 1 has two working positions, shown in FIGS. 6 and 7.
- a winding stem having more than two working positions, each of the positions determining a function particular, the last of these working positions acting on the pinion as indicated above.
- a decoupling span 10 of sufficient length to allow the pinion to be positioned in several successive positions in the uncoupled state.
- the coupling block 11 has two symmetrical oblique surfaces of guide 110 and 111; similar operation of the device could also be obtained with a coupling block comprising four symmetrical oblique guide surfaces, each pair of surfaces being cut on either side of a diagonal of the coupling block.
- the device has been described with a square base coupling block cooperating with a pinion provided with a square hole.
- An equivalent device could also be obtained with a coupling block having a base in the form of any polygon, cooperating with a pinion provided with a hole of similar shape cut in a bearing of suitable pyramidal shape.
- the coupling between the pinion and the rod can be done according to a plurality of relative angular positions, while in the case of an irregular polygonal shape the coupling between the pinion and the rod can only be done in one angular position. This latter possibility may be advantageous for certain particular applications.
- the rod 1 has been described above as comprising a coupling block 11 manufactured separately and fixed on the bearing surface 12 of the rod; we could just as easily have the complete element, rod and coupling block, made in one piece, for example by injection.
