Definitions
- the present invention concerns a device for switching on dipped headlights of motor vehicles.
- recent laws have made the use of dipped headlights of motor vehicles compulsory, in particular on motorways, ring roads and dual carriageways with central reservation.
- the aim of the present invention is therefore to solve the above-mentioned problems by producing a device for switching on the dipped headlights of motor vehicles.
- a further aim of the present invention is to produce a device that enables motorists to comply at all times with the obligation to switch on the dipped headlights of their vehicles on roads where said regulation applies. Said purposes are achieved, according to the present invention, by a device for switching on the dipped headlights of motor vehicles, as in claim 1, which is referred to for the sake of brevity.
- the invention is described below in detail, as an illustrative but non-restrictive example, with reference to the attached drawings in which:
- Figure 1 is a schematic view of the device for switching on the dipped headlights of motor vehicles, according to a first embodiment of the present invention
- Figure 2 is a schematic view of the device for switching on the dipped headlights of motor vehicles, according to another embodiment of the present invention.
- Figure 3 is a schematic view of the device for switching on the dipped headlights of motor vehicles, according to a third embodiment of the present invention.
- Figure 4 is a schematic view of a circuit relating to the device for switching on the dipped headlights of motor vehicles of the present invention.
- the device for switching on the dipped headlights of motor vehicles is indicated overall by reference number 10 in figure 1.
- the device 10 features a number of transmitter stations 11 and 12, positioned at appropriate points of the stretch of road 17 where the use of dipped headlights is required.
- a transmitter station 11 is positioned at the beginning of the stretch of road 17 where the use of dipped headlights is required and a transmitter station 12 is positioned at the end of the stretch of road where the use of dipped headlights is required.
- Figure 1 also shows a motor vehicle 13, in the two above-mentioned road positions; the motor vehicle 13 is fitted with a receiver 14, designed to receive the signals emitted by the transmitter stations 11 and 12, in addition to a light sensor 15, the functions of which will be explained below.
- a receiver 14 designed to receive the signals emitted by the transmitter stations 11 and 12, in addition to a light sensor 15, the functions of which will be explained below.
- a signal emitted by the station 11 is picked up by the receiver 14 on the motor vehicle 13. Said signal permits, via an appropriate circuit, automatic switch-on of the dipped headlights 16. Alternatively, the signal emitted by the transmitter station 11 causes the activation of a buzzer or a light which warns the driver of the car
- Figure 4 shows schematically a circuit relating to the device for switching on the dipped headlights of motor vehicles of the present invention, indicated overall by reference number 20.
- the circuit 20 features a receiver contact 21 and a relay 22, both combined with the receiver 14, a second contact 23 and a relay 24 which act on a third contact 25, in its turn combined with the dipped headlights 16 and a locking contact 28.
- the circuit 20 also comprises a light sensor 15 and a light relay 26, the latter combined with a fourth contact 27, also relating to the dipped headlights 16.
- Operation of the circuit 20 is as follows: when the car 13 passes through the transmitter station 11, the signal of the latter activates the receiver contact 21 and operates the related relay 22 which closes the second contact 23. In its turn, the second contact 23 operates the relay 24 which closes the third contact 25, switching on the dipped headlights 16.
- a signal from the transmitter station 12 permits opening of the above-mentioned circuit to automatically switch off the lights 16.
- the light sensor 15 activates the light relay 26, which closes the fourth contact 27 in order to keep the dipped headlights 16 switched on.
- the light sensor 15 allows the lights to be kept switched on in all cases in which the external light is insufficient and in particular when below a set threshold.
- the signal emitted by the transmitter station 11 causes activation of a buzzer and/or light which warns the driver of the car 13, the latter operates the locking contact 28 to switch on the dipped headlights 16.
- Figure 2 shows a variation of the invention in which, instead of the transmitter stations, a satellite 18 is used which sends a signal to the car 13, where said signal activates either the buzzer and/or light or automatically switches on the dipped headlights 16 according to the procedures described above .
- Figure 3 shows a further variation of the invention, designed for motor vehicles provided with GPS which uses satellites 19.
- road maps will be entered indicating the stretches of road 17 where the use of dipped headlights 16 is required.
- the buzzer and/or light signal or automatic switch-on of the dipped headlights 16 will be controlled by receiving, via the GPS of the car 13, the position signal emitted by the satellites 19.
- the device of the invention has the following advantages . Firstly, it permits all motorists that use it to comply with the obligation to switch on dipped headlights on the stretches of road where said obligation applies, without forgetting and therefore running into serious consequences .
