- Document US-4,969,841 proposes an improved retention device comprising three distinct bearing surfaces which cooperate with a shoulder and two wings formed at the level of the electrical contact. Even if this device provides better recovery of forces than the previously mentioned devices, it is not entirely satisfactory because it requires a relatively complex shape of the elastic element and a particular form of electrical contact, having two wings projecting from to the body.
- the present invention aims to overcome the drawbacks of the prior art by proposing a device for retaining an electrical contact in an improved connection box, of simple design, providing better recovery of both axial and shear forces.
- the subject of the invention is a retention device capable of maintaining electrical contact in a cell of a connection box, said device comprising a bearing surface capable of cooperating with a shoulder formed at said contact, characterized in that the bearing surface and the shoulder have complementary, non-planar profiles, so as to obtain a contact surface greater than that obtained by planar surfaces having the same overall dimensions in width.

- connection box 20 comprises a first part 34 or block in which are formed one or more open cells 22 on either side of said block 34, arranged in one or more rows, and a second part 36, called a grid, capable of fitting into the block and covering one of the faces of the block at level of which open the cells, an element in the form of a seal 38 sealing with a skirt of a complementary connector.
- This grid 36 includes openings 40 arranged at each cell allowing the passage of an element capable of being connected with the corresponding electrical contact of the housing.
- Each cell 22 has a section substantially adapted to the electrical contact 24 and comprises a stop 42 disposed substantially at an open end that close to the grid, capable of immobilizing in translation in a first direction the electrical contact 24 and a retention device 44 in the form of an elastic element allowing the introduction of the electrical contact into its cell and immobilizing in translation in a second direction said contact once inserted.
- This retention device 44 is in the form of a flexible blade 46 connected to the housing 20 extending substantially parallel and spaced relative to one of the faces of the cell so as to be able to deform and allow the introduction of electrical contact.
- the inclined plane 48 allows the blade 46 to be deformed during the introduction of the electrical contact 24 while the bearing surface 50 is capable of cooperating with a shoulder 52 provided at the level of the electrical contact and thereby immobilizing said contact 24.

- the flat support surface of the prior art, illustrated by FIG. 1 B has an area of 0.63 mm 2 while the support surface of the invention, illustrated by FIG. 2B has a 0.88mm 2 surface for the same overall width, which corresponds to a 40% increase in the contact surface.
- This increase in contact surface allows either for the same forces to reduce the contact pressure or or for the same contact pressure to increase the admissible forces, which gives the retention device of the invention improved mechanical characteristics compared to to the devices of the prior art.
- the non-planar shape, and preferably incorporating at least one projecting profile allows the recovery of both axial and shear forces.
- This projecting shape in particular oriented along the main axis of the blade or of the contact also allows better immobilization in translation in the transverse direction even in the presence of a clearance between the electrical contact and the cell.
- the invention is obviously not limited to the embodiment shown and described above, but on the contrary covers all variants thereof, in particular as regards the shapes of the connection box and of the electrical contact as well as the complementary profile of the bearing surface and the shoulder.
