次世代ィンターネットのバックボーン回線などへの応用が期待され る、 広帯域の光ネットワーク技術である、 波長分割多重 (Wavelength Division Multiplex: WDM) 技術に関する開発が活発に行われるように なってきている。 この WDMでは、 1本の光ファイバに異なる波長を有 する光を通してチャネルを多重化することで、 大容量のデータを双方向 に伝送することが可能になる。 さらに、 波長間隔を狭くしてチャネルを 増やすことでさらに大容量のデータ伝送を可能にする高密度 WD M (Dense WDM: DWDM) 技術に関する研究開発も行われている。 これ ら WDMや DWDMでは、 1本の光ファイバ中を伝送している複数の波 長を有する光波群から 1つの波長の光波を取り出したり、 光ファイバに 1つの波長の光波を挿入したりすることが可能になり、 伝送路の有効活 用が図られる。
そして、 特定のノ一ドで特定の波長の光信号の取り出し及び挿入の少 なくともいずれかを行う (1本の光ファイバ中を伝送している複数の波 長の光波群から 1つの波長の光波の取り出し及び挿入の少なくともいず れかを行う) ことを実現するために、 波長選択フィルタを利用した光ァ ッドドロップ多重 (Optical Add Drop Multiplex: O ADM) 素子など が提案されている。 例えば、 波長フィルタを利用した O ADM素子とし
て、 特開平 l 1一 1 0 9 1 4 9号公報に開示されたものがある。
ところが、 上記特開平 1 1— 1 0 9 1 4 9号公報に開示された O AD M素子では、 光導波路が配置されることになる導波路基板に波長選択フ ィルタを接着固定させるものであったため、 WDM方式や DWDM方式 を利用した光ネットワークシステムなどに用いられる波長ごとに O A DM素子全体を用意しなければならなかった。 言い換えると、 WDM方 式や DWD M方式を利用した光ネットワークなどに用いられる波長ご とに波長選択フィルタを用意するだけでは足りなかった。
そこで、 本宪明は、 複数種類の光モジュール (異なる波長の光波をァ ッド及びドロップの少なくともいずれかを行う光モジュール) を用意す る際のコストを下げることが可能な光モジュールを提供することを目 的とする。 発明の開示
本発明の光モジュールは、 1又は複数の第 1光導波路及び第 1導波路 に隙間を隔てて存在する 1又は複数の第 2光導波路を有する導波路ュ ニットと、 1の波長を有する光波または互いに異なる複数の波長を有す る光波群の取り出し及び挿入の少なくともいずれかを行うためのフィ ルタを有するフィルタュニットとを備えており、 導波路ュニットとフィ ルタユニットとは着脱可能であって、 導波路ユニットとフィルタュニッ トとの嵌合時にフィルタが隙間に位置する。
この光モジュールによると、 同じ導波路ュニットを使用してもフィノレ タの特性 (アツド /ドロップする光波の波長) が異なるフィルタュニッ トをアツド/ドロップする光波の波長ごとに用意すれば、 アツド Zドロ ップする光波の波長が異なる複数種類の光モジュールを実現すること ができる。 従って、 複数種類の光モジュール (異なる波長の光波をアツ
ド及びドロップの少なくともいずれかを行う光モジュール) を用意する 際、 生産効率があがり製品のコストを下げることができる。 また、 フィ ルタュニットを導波路ュニッ 卜から取り外して別の特性を持つフィル タのフィルタュニットを導波路ュニットに取り付けることができるの で、 フィルタユニットの交換のみでアツド ドロップする光波の波長を 変更することができる。
別の観点において本発明の光モジュールは、 凹部が形成されたクラッ ド層の一の側面から凹部の一の内壁面にわたって存在する 1又は複数 の第 1光導波路と、 クラッド層の一の側面に対向する他の側面から凹部 の一の内壁面に対向する他の内壁面にわたって存在する 1又は複数の 第 2光導波路とを有する導波部、 及び、 導波部を保持する導波路ハウジ ングを有する導波路ュニットと、 1の波長を有する光波または互いに異 なる複数の波長を有する光波群の取り出し及び挿入の少なくともいず れかを行うためのフィルタと、 フィルタを保持するフィルタハウジング とを有するフィルタュニットとを備えており、 導波路ュニットとフィル タュニットとは着脱可能であって、 導波路ュニットとフィルタユニット との嵌合時にフィルタが凹部に位置する。
この光モジュールによると、 同じ導波路ュニットを使用してもフィル タの特性 (アツド Zドロップする光波の波長) が異なるフィルタュニッ トをアツド/ドロップする光波の波長ごとに用意すれば、 ァッド Zド口 ップする光波の波長が異なる複数種類の光モジュールを実現すること ができる。 従って、 複数種類の光モジュール (異なる波長の光波をアツ ド及びドロップの少なくともいずれかを行う光モジュール) を用意する 際、 生産効率があがり製品のコストを下げることができる。 また、 フィ ルタュニットを導波路ュニッ トから取り外して別の特性を持つフィル タのフィルタュニットを導波路ュニットに取り付けることができるの
で、 フィルタュニットの交換のみでアツドノドロップする光波の波長を 変更することができる。
本発明においては、 フィルタに誘電体多層膜フィルタを使用している ことが好ましい。 これによると、 既知技術の誘電体多層膜フィルタを利 用しているため、 複数種類のフィルタユニットの提供が容易になる。 本発明においては、 フィルタハウジングには開口部が形成されており、 導波路ハウジングには導波路ュニットとフィルタュニットとの嵌合時 にフィルタハウジングの開口部に揷入されるロック部が形成されてい ることが好ましい。
または、 本発明においては、 導波路ハウジングには開口部が形成され ており、 フィルタハウジングには導波路ュニットとフィルタユニットと の嵌合時に導波路ハウジングの開口部に揷入されるロック部が形成さ れていることが好ましい。
これらによると、 簡単な構造で導波路ュニットとフィルタュニットと の着脱を可能にするとともに、 勝手に導波路ュニットとフィルタュニッ トとが外れることを防ぐことができる。
本発明においては、 フィルタハウジングには 1又は複数のガイドビン が形成されており、 導波路ハウジングには導波路ュニットとフイノレタュ ニットとの嵌合時にフィルタハウジングのガイドビンが挿入されるガ イド溝が形成されていることが好ましい。
または、 本発明においては、 導波路ハウジングには 1又は複数のガイ ドビンが形成されており、 フィルタハウジングには導波路ュニットとフ ィルタュニットとの嵌合時に導波路ハウジングのガイ ドビンが挿入さ れるガイド溝が形成されていることが好ましい。
これらによると、 簡単な構造で導波路ュニットとフィルタユニットと の着脱を可能にする。
本発明の光モジュールは、 導波路ュニットとフィルタュニットとの嵌 合した状態を保持するための保持部材をさらに備えていることが好ま しい。 これによると、 導波路ユニットとフィルタユニットとが勝手に外 れることを防ぐことができる。 図面の簡単な説明

(第 1の実施の形態)
以下、 本発明の第 1の実施の形態に係る光モジュールについて図面を 参照しつつ説明する。
まず、 第 1の実施の形態の光モジュールの構造について図面を参照し
つつ説明する。 図 1に嵌合前の光モジュールの断面図を示すように、 光 モジュール 1は、 導波路ユニット 2と、 この導波路ユニット 2に着脱可 能に嵌合するフィルタュニット 3とを備えている。
導波路ュニッ ト 2は、図 1の断面図、及び図 2の斜視図に示すように、 導波部 5がハウジング 4に組み込まれることによって造られるもので ある。 ハウジング 4では、 外周面が略四角の有底角筒体である本体部 1 1に導波部 5を収容するための略直方体状の凹部 1 3が設けられてい る。 そして、 本体部 1 1の 1つの側面 1 1 aには折り返し部 1 2が設け られている。 この折り返し部 1 2には突起部 (ロック部) 1 2 aが取り 付けられており、 この突起部 1 2 aは、 導波路ユニット 2とフィルタュ ニット 3との嵌合時にフィルタュニット 3の後述する開口部 3 3に挿 入される。 これにより、 導波路ュニット 2とフイノレタュニット 3とが勝 手に外れることが防がれる。 さらに、 本体部 1 1の側面 1 1 aに隣接す る 1つの側面 1 1 bにおける、 その底部がある反対側の端部には、 2つ の切り欠き 1 4 a、 1 4 bが設けられている。 また、 本体部 1 1の側面 1 1 aに隣接するもう 1つの側面 1 1 cにおいても同様、 その底部があ る反対側の端部に 2つの切り欠き 1 5 a、 1 5 bが設けられている。 こ れらの切り欠き 1 4 a、 1 4 b、 1 5 a、 1 5 bの夫々は、 導波路ュニ ット 2とフィルタュニット 3とが嵌合した時に後述する光導波路 2 4 b、 2 4 a、 2 3 a、 2 3 bにつなげられることになる光ファイバなど を光モジュール 1の外部へ出すことを可能にするためのものである。 ハウジング 4に収容される導波部 5は、 ハウジング 4に設けられた凹 部 1 3の外周面と略同じ形状 ·寸法をした外周を持つ略直方体をした基 板 2 1を備えている。 この構造を図 3 ( a ) の斜視図に示す。 この基板 2 1上に光導波路が形成されるクラッド層 2 2が形成されている。 この クラッド層 2 2は、 石英などの無機材料、 或いは、 プラスチックなどの
有機材料で作成可能である。
クラッド層 2 2には、 その 1つの側面 26 aからそれに対向する側面 26 bにわたつて直方体状をした挿入溝 (凹部) 25が形成されている とともに、 4本の光導波路 23 a、 2 3 b, 24 a、 24 bが形成され ている。 この 4本の光導波路 23 a、 23 b、 24 a、 24 bの形成は、 前記クラッド層 22に屈折率を少し大きく した光路を作成する公知の 技術で可能である。
クラッド層 22に形成された揷入溝 25は、 図 5に概略を示すように、 導波路ュニット 2とフイノレタユニット 3とが嵌合する時に、 フイノレタュ ニット 3の後述するフィルタ 7が挿入される部分である。従って、通常、 この揷入溝 25の幅は、フィルタ 7の厚さよりも広く形成され、例えば、 厚さが 1 5μιη程度のフィルタ 7に対して挿入溝 2 5の幅は 2 5 μπι程 度となるように形成される。
図 3 (a) の斜視図及び図 3 (b) の上面図 (基板 2 1を図示してい ない) に示すように、 光導波路 23 aは、 クラッド層 22の側面 26 a に隣接する 1つの側面 2 7 aから挿入溝 2 5の 1つの内壁面 2 8 aに わたって存在する。 また、 光導波路 23 bは、 挿入溝 2 5に対して光導 波路 23 aと同じ側に存在し、 側面 27 aから挿入溝 2 5の内壁面 28 aにわたつて存在する。 これらの光導波路 23 a、 23 bは、 図 3 (b) に示すように、 夫々、 角度 Θ1、 Θ 2をもって挿入溝 2 5に交わってい る。 ここで、 光導波路 2 3 aまたは光導波路 23 bを伝播している光波 がフィルタ 7によって反射されて光導波路 2 3 bまたは光導波路 2 3 aへ入射される際の損失を小さくするため、 角度 Θ1、 角度 Θ2、 フィ ノレタ 7の厚さ、 及び溝 25の幅、 並びに、 夫々の相互位置関係からこれ らの値は適切に定められる。
図 3 (a) 及び図 3 (b) に示すように、 光導波路 24 aは、 クラッ
ド層 22の側面 26 aに隣接するもう 1つの側面 (側面 2 7 aに対向す る側面) 27 bから挿入溝 25のもう 1つの内壁面 (内壁面 28 aに対 向する内壁面) 28 bにわたつて存在する。 また、 光導波路 24 bは、 挿入溝 2 5に対して光導波路 24 aと同じ側に存在し、側面 27 bから 挿入溝 2 5の内壁面 28 bにわたつて存在する。 これらの光導波路 24 a、 24 bは、 図 3 (b) に示すように、 夫々、 角度 Θ3、 Θ4をもつ て挿入溝 25に交わっている。 ここで、 光導波路 24 aまたは光導波路 24 bを伝播している光波がフィルタ 7によって反射されて光導波路 24 bまたは光導波路 24 aへ入射される際の損失を小さくするため、 角度 Θ3、角度 Θ4、 フィルタ 7の厚さ、及び溝 2 5の幅、並びに、夫々 の相互位置関係からこれらの値は適切に定められる。
また、 光導波路 2 3 aの中心線と光導波路 24 aの中心線とが略同一 線上にあり、光導波路 23 bの中心線と光導波路 24 bの中心線とが略 同一線上にある。 さらに、 光導波路 23 a、 23 b、 24 a、 24 bの 夫々の導波路幅は略等しい。 さらに、 光導波路 23 aと光導波路 24 a とを結ぶ線と、 光導波路 2 3 bと光導波路 24 bとを結ぶ線とは挿入溝 25上で交わる。
クラッド層 22の側面 2 7 a上にある光導波路 2 3 a、 23 bの端面 で不図示の光ファイバなどが接続され、 また、 クラッド層 22の側面 2 7 b上にある光導波路 24 a、 24 bの端面で不図示の光ファイバなど が接続される。 光導波路 23 a、 2 3 b, 24 a, 24 bに接続された 光ファイバなどは、 夫々、 切り欠き 1 5 a、 1 5 b、 14 b、 14 a力、 ら外部へ出る。
フィルタュニット 3は、 図 1の断面図及び図 4の斜視図に示すように、 ハウジング 6と、 ハウジング 6内に配置されたフィルタ 7とを備えてい る。 図 4に示すように、 ハウジング 7では、 外周面が略四角の有底角筒
体である本体部 3 1にパッケージ 7及び導波路ュニット 2を収容する ための略直方体状の凹部 3 2が設けられている。 この凹部 3 2は、 導波 路ュニット 2とフィルタユニット 3とが嵌合した時に導波路ュニット 2とフィルタュニッ ト 3とががたつかないような寸法で形成されてい る。 そして、 本体部 3 1の 1つの側面 3 1 aには導波路ュニット 2とフ ィルタュニット 3とが嵌合した時に導波路ュニット 2の突起部 1 2 a が挿入される略四角をした開口部 3 3が設けられている。
さらに、本体部 3 1の側面 3 1 aに隣接する 1つの側面 3 1 bにおけ る、 その底部がある反対側の端部に 2つの切り欠き 3 4 a、 3 4 bが設 けられている。 また、 本体部 3 1の側面 3 1 aに隣接するもう 1つの側 面 3 1 cにおいても同様、 その底部がある反対側の端部に 2つの切り欠 き 3 5 a、 3 5 bが設けられている。これらの切り欠き 3 4 a、 3 4 b、 3 5 a、 3 5 bの夫々の一部は、 導波路ュニット 2とフィルタュニット 3とが嵌合した時に導波路ュニット 2のハウジング 4の本体部 1 1に 設けられた切り欠き 1 5 a、 1 5 b、 1 4 a、 1 4 bと重なり合う。 導 波路ュニット 2とフイノレタユニット 3とが嵌合した時の夫々の切り欠 きが重なり合った部分 (開口部) から、 光導波路 2 3 a、 2 3 b、 2 4 a , 2 4 bに接続された光ファイバなどが光モジュール 1の外部へ出る。 フィルタ 7は、 基板に複数枚の誘電体膜が重なり合うようにして形成 される誘電体多層膜フィルタを使用することができる。 導波路ユニット 2とフィルタユニット 3との嵌合時に、 図 5に示すように、 フィルタ 7 の一部が導波路ュニット 2の導波部 5のクラッド層 2 2に形成された 挿入溝 2 5に揷入される。 フィルタ 7が挿入溝 2 5に挿入されるため、 光導波路 2 3 a、 2 3 b、 2 4 a、 2 4 bを伝播している光波は、 フィ ルタ 7に達してフィルタ 7を透過し、 或いは、 フィルタ 7によって反射 される。 但し、 誘電体膜を適宜選択することによってフィルタ 7を透過
する 1又は複数の光波の波長とフィルタ 7を反射する 1又は複数の光 波の波長とを調節することができる。 尚、 フイノレタ 7として、 誘電体多 層膜フィルタ以外のものを利用するようにしてもよい。
導波路ュニット 2にフィルタュニット 3を取り付ける際、 導波路ュニ ット 2の突起部 1 2 aとフィルタユニット 3の開口部 3 3とを同じ側 にして、 導波路ュニット 2がフィルタュニット 3の凹部 3 2に挿入され るようにフィルタュニット 3を導波路ュニット 2に取り付ける。 この時、 導波路ュニット 2の突起部 1 2 aがフィルタユニット 3の開口部 3 3 に入って、導波路ュニッ ト 2がフィルタュニッ ト 3に固定される。一方、 導波路ュニット 2からフィルタュニット 3を取り外す際、 導波路ュニッ ト 2の折り返し部 1 2を本体部 1 1の方向に押しながらフィルタュニ ット 3を導波路ュニット 2のある方向と反対方向に引き抜く。 これによ つて、 フィルタュニット 3を導波路ュニット 2から取り外すことができ る。
上述した構造を有する導波路ュニット 2とフィルタユニット 3との 嵌合時、 光モジュール 1は OADM素子としての作用を有する。 この光 モジュール 1による光波のアツド ^ドロップについて図 6 (a) 及び図 6 (b) を参照しつつ説明する。 図 6 (a) 及び図 6 (b) は、 光モジ ユールによる光波のアツド ドロップを説明するための図である。 ここ では、 4つの波長 λ1、 λ2、 λ3、 λ4の光波が用いられ、 フィルタ 7 を形成する誘電体膜を適宜選択することによって、 フィルタ 7が波長 λ 2の光波を透過させ、 波長 λ1、 λ3、 λ4の光波を反射させる場合を例 に挙げて説明する。
例えば、 図 6 (a) に示されるように、 光モジュール 1外から波長 λ 1、 λ2、 λ3、 λ4の光波が光導波路 2 3 aに入射されると、 光波は光 導波路 23 aを伝播する。 この光導波路 23 aを伝播している光波のう
ち波長 λ1、 λ3、 λ4の光波は、 図 6 (a) に示されるように、 フィル タ 7によって反射されて光導波路 23 bに入射され、 光導波路 23 bを 伝播して光モジュール 1外へ出力される。 一方、 光導波路 23 aを伝播 している光波のうち波長 λ 2の光波は、 図 6 (b) に示されるように、 フィルタ 7を透過して、 光導波路 24 aに入射され、 光導波路 24 aを 伝播して光モジュール 1外へ出力される。
図 6 (b) に示されるように、 光モジュール 1外から波長 λ2の光波 が光導波路 24 bに入射されると、 波長 λ 2の光波は光導波路 24 bを 伝播する。 この光導波路 24 bを伝播している波長 λ 2の光波は、 図 6 (b) に示されるように、 フィルタ 7を透過して、 光導波路 23 bに入 射され、 光導波路 23 bを伝播して光モジュール 1外へ出力される。 以 上のように、 上記の例では、 光モジュール 1は波長 λ 2の光波をドロッ プし、 波長 λ 2の光波をアツドする光 OADM素子としての機能を有す る。 また、 光モジュール 1は、 波長 λ2の光波をアツドするアツド素子 として使用でき、 波長 λ 2の光波をドロップするドロップ素子として使 用できる。
ここで、 フィルタ 7を形成する誘電体膜を適宜選択することによって、 波長 λΐの光波を透過させ、 波長 λ2、 λ3、 λ4の光波を反射させるよ うなフィルタ 7を造って、 これをフィルタユニット 3に利用すれば、 波 長 λΐの光波をドロップし、 波長 λΐの光波をアツドする光モジュール 1を実現することができる。 尚、 波長 λ3、 λ4の光波に関しても同様 である。
また、 フィルタ 7に用いる誘電体膜を適宜選択することによって、 波 長 λ1、 λ2、 λ3、 λ4の全ての光波を反射させるようなフィルタ 7を 造って、 これをフィルタユニット 3に利用すれば、 全ての波長を反射す る (全反射型の) 光モジュール 1を実現することができる。 つまり、 こ
の光モジュール 1では、 光モジユーノレ 1外から波長 λ 1、 λ 2、 λ 3、 λ 4の光波が光導波路 2 3 aに入射されると、 光波は光導波路 2 3 aを伝 播する。この光導波路 2 3 aを伝播してぃる全ての波長入1、人2、入3、 λ 4の光波は、 フィルタ 7によって反射されて光導波路 2 3 bに入射さ れ、 光導波路 2 3 bを伝播して光モジュール 1外へ出力されることにな る。
以上説明した光モジュール 1では、 1種類の導波路ュニット 2と、 ァ ッド Zドロップする光波の波長ごとのフィルタュニッ ト 3とを用意す れば、使用する波長の光波の夫々をァッド ドロップする光モジュール 1を提供することが可能になる。 言い換えると、 使用する波長の光波の 夫々をアツド/ /ドロップするための光モジュール 1を提供する際には、 共通の導波路ュニット 2 (光導波路を備えたュニット) にアツド ドロ ップする光波の波長に応じて造られたフィルタュニット 3 (フイノレタを 備えたユニット) を嵌合すれば足りる。 このため、 従来のような誘電体 多層膜フィルタが接着固定された O A DM素子に比べ、 複数種類の O A DM素子を用意する場合、 生産効率があがり製品のコストを低下させる ことができる。
また、 導波路ュニット 2がフィルタュニット 3に対して着脱可能にな つている。 このため、 導波路ユニット 2に現在取り付けられているフィ ルタュニット 3を導波路ュニット 2力 ら取り外して、 新たにアツド /ド 口ップさせたい他の波長の光波のみを透過させるフィルタ 7を有する フィルタュニット 3を導波路ュニット 2に取り付けるだけで、 光モジュ ール 1がァッド Zドロップする光波の波長を変更できる。
例えば、 光モジュール 1を WDM方式や DWDM方式など複数波長の 光波を用いるシステムに適用すれば、 システム全体のコスト低下につな がり、 アツド ドロップする光波の波長の変更などシステムの再構築が
容易になるという利点がある。
(第 2の実施の形態)
以下、 本発明の第 2の実施の形態に係る光モジュールについて図面を 参照しつつ説明する。
まず、 第 2の実施の形態の光モジュールの構造について図面を参照し つつ説明する。 図 7に嵌合時の光モジュールの断面図、 及び図 8に非嵌 合時の光モジュールの斜視図を示すように、 光モジュール 6 0は、 導波 路ュニット 6 1と、 この導波路ュニット 6 1に嵌合するフィルタュニッ ト 6 2と、 導波路ュニット 6 1とフィルタュニット 6 2との嵌合時に導 波路ュニット 6 1とフィルタユニット 6 2とが外れることを防止する ためのバネなどでできた固定部材 6 3とを備えている。 固定部材 6 3は、 嵌合した導波路ュニット 6 1及びフィルタュニット 6 2力 ら取り外し 可能になっており、 この固定部材 6 3を嵌合した導波路ュニット 6 1及 びフィルタュニット 6 2から取り外すことによって導波路ュニット 6 1からフィルタュニット 6 2を取り外すことができる。
導波路ユニット 6 1は、 図 7及び図 8に示すように、 導波部 5がハウ ジング 6 4に組み込まれることによって造られたものである。 導波部 5 は上述した第 1の実施の形態におけるものと実質的に同様であり、 その 詳細を省略する。
図 8に示すように、 ハウジング 6 4では、 外周面が略四角の有底角筒 体である本体部 7 1に導波部 5を収容するための略直方体状の凹部 7 2が設けられている。 また、 本体部 7 1に、 導波路ュニット 6 1とフィ ルタュニット 6 2との嵌合時にフィルタュニット 6 2の後述するガイ ドビン 6 7、 6 8が挿入される略円柱状をした凹部 (ガイド溝) 7 3、 7 4が設けられている。 本体部 7 1の 1つの側面 7 7 aにおける、 その 底部がある反対側の端部には、 2つの切り欠き 7 5 a、 7 5 bが設けら
れている。 また、 本体部 7 1の側面 7 7 aに対向する側面 7 7 bにおい ても同様、 その底部がある反対側の端部には、 2つの切り欠き 7 6 a、 7 6 bが設けられている。 これらの切り欠き 7 5 a、 7 5 b、 7 6 a、 7 6 bの夫々は、 導波部 5の光導波路につながれることになる光フアイ バなどを光モジュール 6 0の外部へ出すためのものである。
フィルタュニット 6 2は、 図 8に示すように、 ハウジング 6 5と、 ノヽ ウジング 6 5内に配置されたフィルタ 6 6とを備えている。 フィルタ 6 6は、 第 1の実施の形態のフィルタ 7と同様に、 複数枚の誘電体膜が重 なり合う誘電体多層膜フィルタを使用できる。 但し、 誘電体膜を適宜選 択することによってフィルタ 6 6を透過する 1又は複数の光波の波長 とフィルタ 6 6を反射する 1又は複数の光波の波長とを調節すること ができる。 尚、 フィルタ 6 6として、 誘電体多層膜フィルタ以外のもの を利用するようにしてもよい。
ハウジング 6 5には、 導波路ュニット 6 1とフィルタュニット 6 2と が嵌合する時に導波路ユニット 6 1の凹部 7 3、 7 4に挿入され、 フィ ルタ 6 6が導波路ュニット 6 1に対して所定位置 (導波部 5の挿入溝 2 5内) に配置されるようにガイドするための略円柱状をしたガイドビン 6 7、 6 8が形成されている。
上述した構造を有する導波路ュニット 6 1とフィルタユニット 6 2 とを備えた光モジュール 6 0は、 第 1の実施の形態で説明した光モジュ ール 1と同様に、 光波をアツド及びドロップする素子として、 光波をァ ッドする素子として、 光波をドロップする素子として使用することがで さる。
また、 光モジュール 6 0は、 光モジュール 1と同様に、 アツド/ /ドロ ップする光波の波長が異なる複数種類のモジュールを用意する際、 生産 効率があがり製品のコストを抑えることができる。 例えば、 複数種類の
波長の光波を利用してデータ通信を行うシステムに光モジュール 6 0 を使用すれば、 システム全体のコストを低く抑えることが可能になると いう利点を有する。
以上本発明の好適な実施の形態について説明したが、 本発明は上述の 実施の形態に限られるものではなく、 特許請求の範囲に記載した限りに おいて様々な設計変更が可能なものである。 例えば、 光導波路 (1又は 複数の第 1光導波路、 1又は複数の光導波路) を備えた導波路ユニット と、 フィルタを備えたフィルタユニットとを夫々別に構成し、 所定の波 長の光波をアツド ドロップすることができるような構成であればよ い。 また、 1つの光モジュールでアツド ドロップする光波の波長は 1 つに限らず、複数の波長をアツド Zドロップすることができるようなフ ィルタを利用して 1つの光モジュールでアツド Zドロップする光波を 複数にしても良レ、。また、光導波路 2 4 a、 2 4 bの何れかのみにして、 光アツドモジュールや光ドロップモジュールを造ることができる。 また、 各光導波路の形状、大きさは、同形状、同じ大きさに限定されず、挿入、 反射などの設計事情により、 様々な導波路形状、 大きさの組み合わせを 選択することが可能である。
さらに、 第 1の実施の形態では、 導波路ュニット 2に突起部 1 2 aを 設け、 フィルタユニット 3に開口部 3 3を設けているが、 フィルタュニ ットにロック部としての突起部を設け、 導波路ユニットに開口部を設け、 フィルタュニットを導波路ュニットに挿入するような構成にしてもよ レ、。 また、 第 2の実施の形態では、 フィルタユニット 6 2にガイドピン 6 7 , 6 8を設け、 導波路ュニット 6 1に凹部 (ガイド溝) 7 3、 7 4 を設けているが、 導波路ュニッ卜にガイドビンを設け、 フィルタュニッ トにガイド溝を設けるような構成にしてもよい。
産業上の利用可能性
以上説明した光モジュールは、 動画像など転送データのデータ量が多 いシステムなどに適用することができる。
Claims
1 . 1又は複数の第 1光導波路及び前記第 1導波路に隙間を隔てて存 在する 1又は複数の第 2光導波路を有する導波路ュニットと、
1の波長を有する光波または互いに異なる複数の波長を有する光波 群の取り出し及び挿入の少なくともいずれかを行うためのフィルタを 有するフィルタュニットとを備えており、
前記導波路ュニットと前記フィルタュニットとは着脱可能であって、 前記導波路ュニットと前記フィルタュニットとの嵌合時に前記フィル タが前記隙間に位置する光モジュール。
2 . 凹部が形成されたクラッド層の一の側面から前記凹部の一の内壁 面にわたって存在する 1又は複数の第 1光導波路と、 前記クラッド層の 一の側面に対向する他の側面から前記凹部の一の内壁面に対向する他 の内壁面にわたって存在する 1又は複数の第 2光導波路とを有する導 波部、 及び、 前記導波部を保持する導波路ハウジングを有する導波路ュ ニットと、
1の波長を有する光波または互いに異なる複数の波長を有する光波 群の取り出し及び挿入の少なくともいずれかを行うためのフィルタと、 前記フィルタを保持するフィルタハウジングとを有するフィルタュニ ットとを備えており、
前記導波路ュニットと前記フィルタュニットとは着脱可能であって、 前記導波路ュニットと前記フィルタュニットとの嵌合時に前記フィル タが前記凹部に位置する光モジュール。
3 . 前記フィルタは誘電体多層膜フィルタである請求の範囲第 2項に 記載の光モジュール。
4 . 前記フィルタハウジングには開口部が形成されており、 前記導波
路ハウジングには前記導波路ュニットと前記フィルタュ-ットとの嵌 合時に前記フィルタハウジングの開口部に挿入されるロック部が形成 されている請求の範囲第 2項又は第 3項に記載の光モジュール。
5 . 前記導波路ハウジングには開口部が形成されており、 前記フィル タハウジングには前記導波路ュニットと前記フィルタュニットとの嵌 合時に前記導波路ハウジングの開口部に揷入されるロック部が形成さ れている請求の範囲第 2項又は第 3項に記載の光モジュール。
6 . 前記フィルタハウジングには 1又は複数のガイドビンが形成され ており、 前記導波路ハウジングには前記導波路ュニットと前記フィルタ ュニットとの嵌合時に前記フィルタハウジングのガイ ドビンが挿入さ れるガイ ド溝が形成されている請求の範囲第 2項又は第 3項に記載の 光モジユーノレ。
7 . 前記導波路ハウジングには 1又は複数のガイドビンが形成されて おり、 前記フィルタハウジングには前記導波路ュニットと前記フィルタ ュニットとの嵌合時に前記導波路ハウジングのガイ ドビンが挿入され るガイ ド溝が形成されている請求の範囲第 2項又は第 3項に記載の光 モジユーノレ。
8 . 前記導波路ユニットと前記フィルタュニットとの嵌合した状態を 保持するための保持部材をさらに備えている請求の範囲第 6項又は第 7項に記載の光モジュール。
