Definitions

  • This invention relates to a base plate for a pipe duct of a roof with profile-shaped covering, particularly a roof assembled of profiled covering elements, the pipe duct comprising a collar, which encloses a pipe, as well as a flange, which comes into contact with the roof covering.
  • Base plates of this kind have previously been so formed that its flange is intended to be fixed to the upper surface of a roof covering, leaving the whole flange exposed, which naturally effect disadvantageously on the appearance of a roof
  • a further drawback of a base plate to be fixed to the upper surface of a roof covering is that it is very difficult to fix a flange tightly to a covering material, especially in case that the upper surface of said covering material is rough (coarse), for example if scattered sand is glued on the upper surface of the roof covering by means of bitumen.
  • the object of the present invention is to develop a base plate in which the above mentioned drawbacks have been overcome, and which, in its installed stage, does not significancly affect the appearance of a roof.
  • This is achievable by using a base plate which is character- ized in that a flange is designed to be installed and fixed beneath the roof covering element so that only the collar protrudes from an apperture formed in the covering element, and the flange is formed to conform to the profile of the roof covering element, and its upper surface is provided with several parallel ring grooves for a sealing material, which grooves enclose the collar.
  • the flange is hidden beneath the roof covering so that it is not necessary to coat the flange correspondingly to the roof covering, which means a significant saving of costs.
  • the base plate is so manufactured that it can be pre-fixed to a covering element, i.e. while said covering element is lying on the ground so that there is no need to carry out the installation thereof high on the roof.
  • the base plate is especially designed for a roof covering element, which is shaped so as to give a contour similar to a tile roof so that the covering element has a corrugation corresponding to the corrugated structure of roofing tiles, as well as cross folds which are simi- lar at least to the corrugated lower edge of roofing tiles.
  • the covering element is shaped in principle to conform to one row of roofing tiles, one longitudinal edges of the coverring element having been formed as a corrugated downturned flange similar to the lower edge of roofing tile, and the other longitudinal edge having been shaped as a corrugated, upwardly turned flange to receive the downturned flange of the next element to be installed above this element.
  • the flange of the base plate designed for the above kind of roof covering element has two parallel straight side edges extending in its side portions which curve upwardly in compliance with the profile of the covering, as well as at its end facing to the ridge of a roof, an edge flange directed upwardly and corresponding to the edge profile of the covering element.
  • This edge flange is intended to be brought into contact with the edge flange in the upper edge of the covering element so that it is fixed behind it like a hook.
  • the lower edge of the flange is, in turn, intended to be installed on the upper edge of the next lower covering element to permit water possibly leaked between the covering element and the base plate to flow back onto the next lower covering element to prevent any water from entering the internal roof structures.
  • the base plate is in this case preferably so formed that the midpoint of an aperture formed in the the covering element for a pipe will be disposed in the mid-line of the top of the covering element.
  • the fixing of the base plate to the covering element is preferably carried out by means of screw fastening, the ring grooves at the upper side of the flange being filled with a sealing material, such as silicone in order to hinder leakages.
  • FIG. 1 shows a perspective top view of an example of a base plate according to the invention
  • Fig. 2 shows the base plate according to the invention of Fig. 1 viewed obliquely from below
  • Fig. 3 shows the base plate installed in a roof covering element
  • Fig. 4 shows a vertical section along the longitudinal axis of the installed base plate
  • Fig. 5 shows a vertical section along the cross line of the installed base plate.
  • a base plate 1 shown in Fig. 1 is primarily intended for a pipe duct of a metal-sheeted roof, the roof being assembled of profiled covering elements 2, having a shape similar to that of a tile roof.
  • the base plate 1 comprises a collar 3, which encloses a pipe, as well as a flange 4, which comes into contact with the bottom surface of the roof covering element 2 and is to be fixed thereto.
  • only the collar 3 of the base plate pro- trudes from an aperture 5 formed in the covering element 2 for a pipe duct.
  • the flange 4 is formed to conform to the profile of the covering element 2 and its upper surface is provided with several parallel ring grooves 6 for a suitable sealing material such as silicone, which grooves enclose the collar 3.
  • the flange 4 is preferably so formed that the mid-point of the collar 3 is located on the mid-line of a top of the corrugation of the covering element 2, a corresponding top 7 being formed along the mid-line of the flange 4.
  • a small recess extends along both the mid-line of the covering element 2 and the mid-line of the top 7 of the flange 4.
  • the flange 4 terminates laterally in two parallel straight side edges 4a, which extend in the edges of the upwardly curving side portions on the opposite sides of said corrugation valleys 8.
  • the flange 4 At its end turnable toward the ridge of a roof, the flange 4 is provided with an edge flange 9 directed upwardly and corresponding to the edge profile of the covering element 2.
  • This edge flange 9 is intended to be installed behind the upper end profile 2a of the covering element 2 so that the base plate 1 is exactly fixed during installation.
  • the lower edge of the flange 4 conforms completely to the corrugated shape of the covering element 2, and in connection with installation it is intended to come to rest upon the upper edge of the next lower covering element 2 in case that the covering element 2 corresponds approximately to one row of roofing tiles.
  • a recess 10 has been formed in the connecting portion between the flange 4 and the collar 3 on the side facing to the edge flange 9, the recess extending to the level of the corrugation valleys 8.
  • the base plate 1 is manufactured from a weather resistant, slightly bendable, flexible plastic material.
  • the main part of the flange 4 is made as thin and smooth as possible so that a sufficiently flexible structure is achieved, which is suitable for covering elements of different covering manufacturers, even if there are small differences between them.
  • the smooth portion is, as stated above, dimensioned to extend to the upper edge of the next lower covering element 2.
  • the flange 4 is provided with a larger material thickness, the added material being arranged under the flange 4, as can best be seen from Figures 4 and 5.
  • the purpose of the greater thickness of the material is to improve the retain- ing capacity of screws 12 to be used for the fixing the base plate to the covering element 2.
  • a part of the increasing of the material thickness is carried out in the form of downwardly extending reinforcement rings 11.
  • the installation of the base plate is in principle carried out so that on the covering element 2, which is intented to be installed on the site, in which a pipe is to be brought through a roof, an aperture 5 and the sites of the fastening screws 12 are drawn by means of a templet.
  • the aperture 5 is preferably cut by plate shears.
  • silicone or a corresponding sealing material is applied, and the screws 12 are driven in at the marked points.
  • the ring grooves 6 improve the adhesion of the sealing material between the covering element 2 and the base plate 1.
