Abstract

La présente invention concerne système de stérilisation et de décontamination dans lequel un dispositif de décharge plasma non thermique est disposé en amont de médias (par exemple, un filtre, un précipitateur électrostatique, un lit de carbone). Le dispositif de décharge plasma génère un plasma qui est émis à travers des ouvertures (par exemple, des capillaires ou des fentes) dans un diélectrique primaire. Une espèce stérilisante actives générée par le plasma, lors de son exposition à des contaminants ou une matière particulaire indésirable peut désactiver ou réduire une telle matière dans un flot de fluide contaminé et/ou sur des objets. Ainsi, les contaminants indésirables dans le fluide à traiter sont d'abord réduits lors de leur exposition aux espèces stérilisantes actives générées par le plasma dans la zone de du dispositif de décharge Par ailleurs, les espèces stérilisantes actives générées par le plasma sont transportées vers l'aval à des médias de suspension et lors de leur contact avec ceux-ci effectuent la désactivation des contaminants recueillis sur les médias eux-mêmes. De manière avantageuse, les média de suspension peuvent être nettoyés in situ. En vue d'accroître l'efficacité de stérilisation, un additif exempt de gaz vecteur (par exemple, l'alcool, l'eau, l'air sec) peut être injecté dans les ouvertures définies dans le diélectrique primaire. Ces additifs augmentent la concentration d'agents de stérilisation actifs générés par le plasma tout en réduisant le produit secondaire de polluants d'ozone indésirables générés. En aval du filtre, le flot de fluide peut être soumis à un traitement supplémentaire en étant exposé à un média catalyseur ou un média de suspension additionnel en vue de réduire davantage la quantité de matière particulaire indésirable.
