Abstract

The invention concerns a device (1) for damping the roll and/or vertical movements of an anchored boat (B), said movements of the boat (B) being caused by the undulating movements of the surface of the sea, such as swell or choppiness, commonly called waves (V) so as to avoid the boat from drifting. The invention is characterised in that it consists in means extending partly beneath the surface of the water, connected to an element of the boat and producing on the hull of the boat a weighted force countering said displacement when the boat hull is driven vertically by the crest of a wave (V) and a null force when the hull of the boat (B) is in a wave trough.

Description

DISPOSITIF D'AMORTISSEMENT DES MOUVEMENTS D'UN BATEAU ANCRE DEVICE FOR DAMPING THE MOVEMENTS OF AN ANCHORED BOAT
The present invention relates to a device for damping the vertical and / or roll movements caused by the waves of an anchored boat.
In the nautical field, it is well known that the holding of the anchor line of an anchored boat, the anchor line comprising an anchor connected to the bow of a boat by a chain, depends on the dimensioning of the anchor and the length of the chain, the larger the tonnage of the boat, the larger and heavier the anchor of course. Indeed, for the efficiency of the anchor to be optimal, it is necessary that the traction of the chain on the rod of the anchor is done generally parallel to the seabed on which the head of the anchor is supported so that the latter comes to hang on to it. However, the undulatory movements of the sea surface, such as swell or chop for example, commonly called waves, cause the boat to roll, that is to say a reciprocating transverse movement of the boat, and / or a vertical displacement of the bow of the boat which reaches its peak on the crest of the wave and its lowest position when the bow of the boat is in the hollow of the wave. This vertical movement causes traction on the chain of the mooring line which is exerted on the rod of the anchor in an oblique direction relative to the seabed. This regular traction on the anchor causes the anchor to slip on the seabed, which results in a drift of the boat on the surface of the water.
In order to limit the roll and / or the vertical movement of the boat caused by waves, devices have already been devised consisting of a generally frustoconical hollow body connected to an element of the boat and submerged which provides hydrodynamic force on the hull of the boat. proportional to the vertical displacement of the boat which opposes said displacement when the hull of the latter is driven vertically by the crest of a wave and a zero force when the hull of the boat is located in the hollow of a wave. This is the case for example of the Australian patent AU 2169577 describing stabilizers for a small boat at anchor. The stabilizers respectively consist of a generally frustoconical hollow body moored on either side of the hull of the boat so that the hollow bodies are completely submerged. Furthermore, the hollow bodies of the valves made up of membranes which open and close when the frustoconical hollow bodies descend and rise respectively. Thus, when a frustoconical hollow body sinks into water, the membranes open under the effect of the resistance of the water in order to facilitate the descent to said frustoconical hollow body and, when the frustoconical hollow body rises, the membranes close to provide a hydrodynamic force that opposes the ascent. Indeed, during the ascent, the frustoconical hollow body behaves like a rigid disc which acts as a brake, this resistance force called hydrodynamic force being proportional to the area of the large base of the frustoconical hollow body.
These devices have the drawback of requiring large dimensions, in particular of the large base of the frustoconical hollow body, to provide sufficient force opposing the vertical movement of a large boat such as a yacht for example, which makes the installation of these devices impossible and their storage difficult for this type of boat.
One of the aims of the invention is therefore to remedy these drawbacks by proposing a device of simple and inexpensive design for damping the vertical and / or roll movements of an anchored boat so as to avoid the drift of the boat.
In this connection and in accordance with the invention, it is proposed a device for damping rolling movements and / or vertical to an anchored ship, said ship's movements being caused by the wave motions of the sea surface, such like swell or choppy waves, commonly called waves, so as to avoid drift of the boat, remarkable in that it consists of means extending partially under the surface of the water, connected to an element of the boat and providing a weight force on the boat hull which oppose said displacement when the the hull of the latter is driven vertically by the crest of a wave and zero force when the hull of the boat is in the hollow of a wave.
According to a particularly advantageous variant of the device according to the invention, the means consist of a frustoconical or trunk-polyhedral body comprising a large open base connected to the windlass or to the bow of the boat by a cable and a small open base provided with a ballast so that, when the hollow body is partially submerged, suspended by the cable, said hollow body extends vertically, the large base slightly above the water level, said large base extending over the small base.
It is easy to understand that when the bow of the boat moves vertically upwards, raised by a wave, the hollow body which is filled with water comes out of the water and exerts a weight force on the bow of the boat and that, when the bow lies in a hollow between two successive waves, the hollow body sinks, the large base above the small base, thanks to the ballast of the small base, the hollow body then exerting on the bow of the boat zero force or almost zero.
Note, moreover, that the small open base of the hollow body allows a low flow of water when the bow of the boat moves vertically to avoid any tearing of the hollow body.
In order to facilitate the removal of the device for damping the vertical movements of the boat, the device advantageously comprises a second ascent cable extending through the interior of the hollow body and the ends of which are respectively secured to the small base and the windlass or the bow of the boat when the device is submerged so that the removal of the device is carried out by exerting traction on the ascent cable until the small base of the hollow body is above the large base, the entire device then being reassembled by simultaneously pulling on the first cable connected to the large base and on the cable.
D'autres avantages et caractéristiques ressortiront mieux de la description qui va suivre, de plusieurs variantes d'exécution, données à titre d'exemples non limitatifs, du dispositif pour amortir les mouvements verticaux et/ou de roulis d'un bateau ancré conforme à l'invention, en référence aux dessins annexés sur lesquelsOther advantages and characteristics will emerge more clearly from the description which follows, of several alternative embodiments, given by way of nonlimiting examples, of the device for damping the vertical and / or roll movements of an anchored boat conforming to the invention, with reference to the accompanying drawings in which

The frustoconical hollow body 2 also comprises a small open base 7 provided with a ballast 8 secured to said small base 7 by two small cables 9a, 9b of the same length, the free ends of which are respectively fixed to the edges of the small base. 7 at two diametrically opposite points and to the ballast 8, so that, when the hollow body 2 is immersed, suspended by the cable 4, said hollow body 2 extends vertically, the large base 3 above the small base 7 as will be seen later.
Furthermore and according to a particularly advantageous characteristic of the device according to the invention, the large base 3 and the small base 7 of the hollow body 2 comprise an annular band 10 and respectively 11, obtained in a flexible or semi-flexible material, such as thick waterproof fabric for example, and respectively secured on the external face of said hollow body 2. Likewise, the hollow body 2 comprises between the large base 3 and the small base 7 intermediate annular bands 12, 13 and 14 obtained in a flexible or semi-flexible material, secured to the external face of the hollow body 2 and regularly spaced in order to improve the resistance of said hollow body 2. The annular bands 10 to 14 are secured to the external face of the hollow body 2 by all suitable means such as, for example, by gluing or by seams.
It goes without saying that said annular bands 10 to 14 can be secured on the internal face of the hollow body 2 without departing from the scope of the invention. According to a particularly advantageous variant, not shown in the figures, the edge of the large base 3 of the body 2 is secured to an annular frame consisting of two semicircular tubes articulated around hinges which allow the device to be folded so as to reduce its size for storage after use.
Le second câble de remontée 15 est, par exemple, solidarisé à la petite base 7 par un anneau 16 solidaire de l'extrémité libre du second câble de remontée 15 et coulissant le long d'une tige s 'étendant diamétralement d'un bord à l'autre de la petite base 7.In order to facilitate the removal of the device, the latter comprises, with reference to FIGS. 1 and 2, a second ascent cable 15 of the device 1 extending from the inside of the hollow body 2 and the ends of which are respectively integral with the small base 7 and the windlass or bow of the boat as will be detailed later. The second ascent cable 15 is, for example, secured to the small base 7 by a ring 16 secured to the free end of the second ascent cable 15 and sliding along a rod extending diametrically from an edge to the other from small base 7.
According to an alternative embodiment of the device for damping the vertical movements of an anchored boat according to the invention and with reference to FIG. 8, the small base 7 comprises a non-return valve 18 consisting, for example, of a ring 19 integral with the periphery of the small base 7 and two pivoting flaps about an axis 21 towards the inside of the hollow body 2, as indicated by the arrows a in FIG. 3, the axis 21 extending diametrically from one edge to the other of the small base 7 and said flaps 21 bearing on the ring 19 to close the small base 7.
It is obvious that the non-return valve 19 may have only one flap without departing from the scope of the invention.
Par ailleurs, dans cette variante d'exécution particulière du dispositif conforme à l'invention, l'extrémité du second câble de remontée 15 est alors solidaire du ou des volets du clapet anti-retour 18.Furthermore, in this particular variant of the device according to the invention, the end of the second ascent cable 15 is then secured to the flap or flaps of the non-return valve 18.
According to another alternative embodiment of the device according to the invention, with reference to FIG. 4, the ballast 8 consists of a ring-shaped weight 22 positioned at the periphery of the small base 7. The d-shaped weight ring 22 extends, for example, outside the hollow body 2 and is held by a strip of fabric 23 sewn onto said hollow body 2. It is obvious that the ring-shaped weight 22 can s extend inside the hollow body 2 and that it can be maintained by any suitable means such as for example a strip of fabric glued to said hollow body 2.
According to a final variant of the device according to the invention, in order to prevent the roll of a sailing boat known as a sailboat 24, with reference to FIGS. 7 and 8, the base 3 of the hollow body 2 is fixed to the free end of a halyard 25, such as the main halyard for example, of a mast 26 of the sailboat 24 via the cable 4 so that the hollow body 2 extends vertically next to the hull, at the height of the mast 26 and kept at a distance from the hull by a spacer 27. Said spacer 24 consists of two arms 27a and 27b articulated around a hinge 28 and whose free ends bear on the hull, under a body guard 29, at the height of the mast 26 so that the arms 27a and 27b extend generally perpendicular to the hull, the cable 4 bearing on the hinge 28. In order to prevent the fall of the spacer 27 in water when removing the device, the device comprises a tip 30, that is to say a cord whose free ends are respectively secured to the cord of the railing 29 and to the spacer 27 at the hinge 28 for example. It will also be observed that, in this particular embodiment, the ascent cable 15 of the hollow body 2 extends outside of said body 2 without however departing from the scope of the invention.
We will now describe, with reference to FIGS. 5a, 5b and 6a, 6b the operation of the device for damping the vertical movements of an anchored boat according to the invention.
With reference to FIG. 5a, the device 1 is immersed in water and moored by its first cable 4 to the bow of a boat B, the mooring being carried out either at the windlass 31 or at a mooring cleat 32 positioned on the deck of boat B near its bow. Windlass 31 means a device used to turn the chains, to anchor and to lift the anchors on board a ship, which usually consists of a roller with a generally horizontal axis around which the chain of the line is wound. wetting of the boat, said roller being advantageously motorized. When the bow of the boat is positioned in a hollow between two successive waves V, with reference to FIG. 6a, the force exerted on the bow of the boat B by the device 1 is zero or almost zero, the force exerted by the device 1 consisting in the weight of ballast 8 which is negligible compared to the weight of boat B. When the bow of boat B is driven vertically by the crest of a wave V, with reference to Figure 6b_, the vertical displacement of boat B causes the reassembly of the device 1 fills with water. Thus, the device 1 provides, during the ascent of the bow of the boat B, a weight force F p directly proportional to the volume of water contained in the hollow body 2 which opposes the vertical movement of said boat B, schematically represented by arrow F v so that said vertical displacement of the bow of the boat is limited. In this regard, there is shown in dotted lines in Figure 5b, a boat B sandstone waves V, that is to say a boat B not equipped with the device 1 as described above, driven vertically by the crest of 'a wave V. It will be observed that, for a hollow body 2 having a large base 3 (Figures 1 and 2) of Im 50 in section, a small base 7 of 50 mm in section and a length of 5 m separating the large base 3 of the small base 7, the weight of the water contained in the hollow body 2 is approximately 3 tonnes.
It is obvious that the dimensions of the device 1 described above depend in particular on the size and weight of the boat B. Furthermore, it will be noted that the vertical movement of the boat B is limited, the traction on the chain of the mooring line of the latter is also reduced, thus avoiding a sliding of the anchor on the seabed which would result in a drift of boat B on the surface of the water. Finally, the vertical movement of boat B being significantly reduced, the passengers of the latter no longer perceive, or at least perceive less, the movements of the waves which are the cause of seasickness.
The withdrawal of the device, with reference to FIGS. 5a and 5b, is carried out by pulling on the second ascent cable 15 until the small base 7 of the hollow body 2 is above the large base 7, the entire device then being reassembled by simultaneously pulling on the first cable 4 connected to the large base and on the ascent cable 15.
Incidentally, with reference to Figures 6a, 6b_ the first cable 4 and / or the second ascent cable 15 comprise a buoy or a float 33 to prevent the device 1 from sinking during a bad maneuver. Said buoy 33 is preferably secured to the first cable 4 or to the second ascent cable 15 so that it extends continuously between the bow of boat B and the surface of the water.
Finally, it goes without saying that the device for damping the vertical movements of an anchored boat can consist of a hollow trunk-polyhedral body, that is to say a truncated polyhedron, and that the examples which have just been given are only particular illustrations in no way limiting the fields of application of the invention.
