Definitions
- Filter pack for filtering liquid or gaseous media
- the invention relates to a filter pack for filtering liquid or gaseous media according to the preamble of claim 1.
- Such filter packs are used in particular for filtering engine oil in motor vehicles, the filter pack being used in a filter housing with an inlet and an outlet for the medium.
- the filter pack contains a fine-pored material through which the medium to be filtered flows, e.g. a roll of absorbent paper, which may be surrounded by a cage, a block of open-pore plastic or metal fibers etc.
- Such a filter pack with an associated filter housing is e.g. known from the applicant's EP-B1-0 503 028.
- Such an oil filter can e.g. be located in a bypass flow, thus serves as a fine filter in addition to the main oil filter already installed in the internal combustion engine. With such an additional oil filter, the intervals between oil changes can be drastically increased, so that essentially only the oil that is burned in each case has to be topped up.
- a pressure relief valve is usually provided at the inlet of the filter housing, for example in its cover, which opens when the oil pump starts to run and opens a direct flow path between the inlet and the outlet of the filter. This means that part of the oil reaches the engine unfiltered immediately after it starts, whereas the rest of the oil flows through the filter pack and is cleaned.
- the pressure relief valves used in such filters are subject to aging, in particular the closing springs used therein, so that the function of such filters may be impaired over a long period of operation.
- the construction of the housing is relatively complex, since the susceptible pressure relief valve must always be provided.
- a different housing must be provided depending on whether the filter is operated in the main or secondary flow.
- a filter device with a bypass valve which, when the filter pack is clogged, clears a flow path through the filter pack when it is clogged and the medium is therefore no longer filtered.
- This bypass valve is intended to avoid an undesired rise in pressure in the filter device, which under certain circumstances can lead to damage within a hydraulic system, for example.
- the bypass valve with an adjusting device which defines the opening pressure of the valve is a separate component which is fastened in the filter housing and engages in the flow path in the filter pack.
- a liquid filter with a bypass valve which has a support dome fixed to the housing, into which the bypass valve is installed and onto which the filter pack is attached.
- the function is similar to the previously mentioned filter.
- the invention is therefore based on the object of specifying a filter pack of the type in question with a simple construction which is universally applicable, reliable, practically maintenance-free and not complex.
- the filter pack has an internal flow path with an inlet and an outlet through which part of the medium can flow unfiltered;
- An overpressure valve integrated into the filter pack is provided in the flow path, which releases the flow path at a specific pressure of the medium and otherwise closes it.
- the valve opens when e.g. B. the oil pump for an engine is switched on at start, so that the initial supply of the engine with oil is ensured.
- part of the medium therefore always flows unfiltered through the filter pack, while the rest of the medium flows through and filter the filter material of the filter pack.
- the pressure relief valve is integrated directly into the filter pack and no longer has to be provided in the filter housing.
- the filter housing remains completely unchanged, does not have to have a pressure relief valve and can therefore be used for the main flow path as well as the secondary flow path, depending on whether a filter pack with or without an internal flow path or pressure relief valve is used. Since such pressure relief valves are very cheap, the effort for the filter pack is not significantly higher than before.
- the invention is also based on the object of improving the filter effect of such filter packs, so that the filtered medium always meets high quality requirements.
- the filter pack is impregnated with an additive which improves the quality of the filtered oil;
- the addition z. B. be a higher quality oil than the oil to be filtered or an additive.
- the additive can generally be an oil improver, e.g. B. renewed the alkaline reserves of the oil to be filtered or improved the lubricity of the oil to be filtered.
- the additive substances usually added to the oil to improve quality are gradually broken down. This degradation can be counteracted by impregnating the filter pack with appropriate additives if these additives are added to the oil to be filtered when filtering the oil in the filter pack.
- the additive is gradually released from the filter pack during its service life and improves the filterability and quality of the filtered medium.
- any oil changes can be postponed further without affecting the functionality of the supplied engine or a hydraulic system.
- the impregnation can also be used for filter packs that are not equipped with an integrated pressure relief valve.
- Figure 1 shows a first embodiment of a filter pack according to the invention.
- FIG. 2 shows a second embodiment of a filter pack according to the invention.
- the two figures are very schematic; The same or similar elements have the same in both figures
- a filter pack 1 has a central hollow core 2, around which a roll of absorbent paper 3 is wound.
- the filter winding can be surrounded by a stabilization network 4; in addition, 2 stabilizers, e.g. individual rods 5 may be provided.
- the center tube still has a plurality of openings 6 and extends between an inlet 7 on the top of the filter pack and an outlet 8 on the bottom.
- This filter pack is inserted into a filter housing 9, indicated by dashed lines, which has an inlet 10 and an outlet 11.
- the process 11 can e.g. have a screw thread into which an external thread of the outlet 8 is screwed, as a result of which the filter pack 1 is held stably in the filter housing 9.
- inlet 10 and outlet 11 are arranged on opposite sides of the filter housing; it is of course possible to arrange both on one side of the housing.
- a small pressure relief valve 12 which has a closing body 13 and a compression spring 14, is inserted into the center tube 2 at the inlet 7 of the filter pack.
- This pressure relief valve is normally closed. If a medium, in this case motor oil, flows through the inlet 10 with a certain pressure built up by an oil pump (not shown here), part of this oil also flows into the pressure relief valve 7 and opens the valve plate 13 against the pressure of the compression spring 14. This part of the oil then flows through the hollow center tube 2 and then out of the outlet 8 of the filter pack directly to the internal combustion engine, as is indicated by the two arrows at the inlet and outlet. Another part of the oil then flows through the filter winding either in the axial direction or in the radial direction, as also indicated by axial or radial arrows. The oil flowing radially through the filter pack flows through the openings 6 in the center tube and leaves the filter via the outlet 8. The oil flowing axially through the filter winding 3 is collected at the bottom of the filter pack and then also flows through the outlet 8.
- the size of the pressure relief valve and in particular the spring force of the closing spring are adapted to the operating pressure of the filter in such a way that the oil flow is divided and only part of the oil flows unfiltered directly through the filter pack, whereas the remaining part flows through the filter winding and is filtered.
- the pressure relief valve 7 can in principle be located at any location on the flow path between the inlet and outlet, e.g. B. at the end of the flow path, i.e. be located near the outlet.
- FIG. 2 shows a variant of a filter pack 1, the filter pack on the side of the inlet 10 being closed here, so that the oil that enters only flows into the filter winding, either on the top or via the network 4 on the outside into the filter winding 3 ,
- the filter winding 3 is penetrated radially with a thin tube 15 which extends from the outside of the filter pack into the center tube 2.
- the pipe 15 opens into a pressure relief valve, which in turn has a closing body 13 and a compression spring 14.
- the pressure relief valve 12 is opened and part of the oil flows unfiltered from its inlet 7 into the central tube 2 and from the outlet 8 or outlet 11 directly to the engine.
- the remaining part of the oil flows axially / radially through the filter pack, is cleaned and leaves the filter pack through outlet 8.
- this filter pack is not only suitable for filtering engine oil, but also for other liquid or gaseous media.
- the filter packs described can also be impregnated with an additive that improves the quality of the filtered oil.
- the filterability can be increased even when filtering gaseous substances and z. B. the flow resistance can be reduced. It has surprisingly been found that dirt particles from gases, e.g. B. air, better filtered out when the filter pack z. B. is impregnated with oil or generally with a viscous agent that retains the dirt particles better.
- the filter pack if it consists of a roll of absorbent paper, is advantageously wound loosely or has a correspondingly large pore size, so that the flow resistance for the medium is not impaired. It has even been shown that the Flow resistance for a gas can be increased by the addition, such as normal engine oil.
