Definitions
- the invention relates to the field of water treatment and finds in particular its application in the context of methods of treating wastewater and methods of treating water with a view to making it potable. More particularly, the present invention relates to an installation of the type intended for treating water by flocculation-decantation. This type of installation is well known in the prior art and very commonly used in the context of water treatment. The methods implemented in such installations consist in adding to the water a material making it possible to coagulate at least a large part of the pollutants present in the water so as to form flocs, then to separate the flocs thus formed from the purified water. .
- means for supplying at least one granular material more dense than water, such as sand, are provided so as to ballast the flocs in question and thus promote and accelerate the settling of those -this.
- a device is described in particular in French patent FR -
- This type of installation called "water treatment installation by ballasted flocs" conventionally comprises an injection chamber provided with means for supplying water, means for supplying at least one flocculating reagent , means for supplying at least one granular material denser than water and means for stirring; a maturation chamber provided with stirring means; and at least one settling chamber provided with a sludge recovery and discharge zone and means for discharging clarified water.
- the lamellae in question greatly favor the separation between these two components of the mixture and obtaining clarified water at the outlet of the settling chamber.
- the water leaving these ballasted flock decantation flocculation treatment plants still contains some particles which have not been trapped in the ballasted flocs and which are usually removed during a subsequent filtration step, ie on a granular filter. (sand filters, anthracite, activated carbon for example) or on sieves (trapping the coarsest particles) or membranes (which also stop small microorganisms like bacteria).
- the main objective of the present invention is to significantly reduce the volumes occupied by the flocculation / decantation / filtration assembly by making the best use of the decantation volume which the use of granular materials surprisingly leaves available for others. uses, such as the installation of sieving or filtration means in this zone, while obtaining results on the quality of the clarified water at least as good.
- At least one flocculation zone provided with means for supplying coagulated water, means for supplying at least one flocculating reagent, means for supplying at least one granular material more dense than water, and means of agitation;
- At least one settling chamber provided with a sludge recovery and evacuation zone, means for evacuating clarified water and means of overflow for evacuating the floats; characterized in that said settling chamber is provided with at least one screen or at least one filtration membrane.
- this will preferably allow two steps to be grouped, namely a first step of injecting the flocculating reagent and the granular material into precoagulated water and a second step of maturation.
- These two steps can be carried out either in two separate parts of the installation together defining the flocculation zone, namely a flocculation chamber and a maturation chamber, or in a single chamber, the injection of flocculating reagent and granular material. then taking place in the first part thereof and maturation taking place in the second part thereof (depending on the direction of flow of the water in the installation).
- the present invention therefore consists, in comparison with the closest known prior art of flocculation-settling facilities using ballasted flocs, in eliminating the lamellae usually used in the settling chamber, to replace them with one or more membranes or with one or more filtration sieves which are intended to be directly submerged by the water to be treated so as to filter it and to retain any non-flocculated particles such as flocs formed by the aggregation of the granular material and the pollution at eliminate that would not have been decanted.
- the water treatment plants with ballasted flocs according to the invention can be used both for primary treatment on highly charged water and for tertiary treatment on already partially purified water, but also for clarifying surface water to be made potable, before filtration.
- a sieve or sieves or a membrane or filtration membranes having a higher or lower breaking capacity.
- said sieve or said filtration membrane has a breaking capacity of between 1 and 500 ⁇ m.
- it will generally be necessary to provide downstream of the settling chamber at minus a sand filter making it possible to perfect the purification of the water leaving the settling chamber.
- one or more filtration membranes may be used having a breaking capacity equal to or less than 1 ⁇ m.
- the proposed installation will have means for cleaning the screen or the filtration membrane used. These cleaning means can be chosen from the whole range of those conventionally used for cleaning membranes or filtration sieves in the context of water treatment. It will thus be possible in particular to have recourse to means implementing a gas insufflation, such as air, on membranes, to techniques implementing an injection of liquid under pressure onto the membranes or else techniques implementing backwashing of these, that is to say a passage of the effluent in the opposite direction to that implemented during the treatment operation.
- a gas insufflation such as air
- the installation will be provided with additional means for injecting at least one chemical reagent intended to prevent clogging of the filtration device.
- the reagent can be chosen from the following different families: oxidation reagent (ozone, chlorine, chlorine dioxide or any other oxidant), acidification reagent, alkalizing reagent, or any combination of these reagents, injected continuously or sequentially.
- the settling chamber will be provided with skimming means making it possible to recover the floating pollutants which do not participate in the formation of ballasted flocs such as for example the pieces of paper, the pieces of wood , fat balls etc.
- the installation will also include means for recycling the granular material to the flocculation zone.
- such means include a channel for recovering sludge from the sludge recovery and evacuation zone from the settling chamber, means for separating the granular material contained in this sludge such as a hydrocyclone and means for reintroducing this granular material into the flocculation zone.
- the installation shown comprises in series an injection chamber 1, a maturation chamber 6, said chambers 1 and 6 forming a flocculation zone, and a decantation chamber 8.
- the injection chamber is, in a conventional manner, provided with precoagulated water inlet means 2, means for distributing an optional flocculating agent 3, means 4 for distributing a granular material, in l occurrence of sand, and stirring means 5.
- the maturation chamber 6 is in turn provided with an agitator 7.
- the decantation chamber 8 is devoid of lamellae and has in its lower part a recovery and discharge zone 9 for the sludge and in its upper part with an overflow 19 for the evacuation of the floats.
- the decantation chamber is also provided with means 10 for discharging the clarified, decanted and filtered water.
- the installation comprises means 15 for recycling the granular material recovered in the recovery and evacuation zone 9 of the settling chamber 8.
- recycling means include a pipe 16, cooperating with a pump 16a which directs the sludge recovered at 9 to a hydrocyclone 17 provided with means 18 for distributing the granular material separated in the injection chamber 1 and means 20 for discharging the rest of the sludge.
- the settling chamber 8 is provided with one or more filtration membranes 11 mounted on removable fixing means 13 through which the flow of water to be treated coming from the coagulation chamber 6 passes.
- the installation also comprises means 12 for air cleaning the membrane 11 as well as skimming means 14.
- the precoagulated water to be purified arrives by means 2 in the injection chamber 1. Thanks to the stirring means 5 a mixture is formed between this water, the flocculating reagent and the granular material. This mixture then passes through the maturation chamber 6 or the agitator 7 promotes the creation of ballasted flocs. The water + ballasted flocs mixture then passes into the settling chamber 8 where the ballasted flocs settle in zone 9. Thanks to the membrane 11, the non-decanted residual particles are separated from the purified water. The purified water leaves the settling chamber 8 by the discharge means 10. The floating pollutants are eliminated by means of the skimming means 14.
- ballasted flocs retained by the membrane 11 form sludge which:
- FIG. 2 differs from that shown in FIG. 1 only in that the membrane is replaced there by a rotary screen 11a.
