From the foregoing disclosure and detailed description of certain preferred embodiments, it will be apparent that various modifications, additions and other alternative embodiments are possible without departing from the true scope and spirit of the present invention. For example, it will be apparent to those skilled in the art, given the benefit of the present disclosure, that the attachment bracket 18 can each have many different configurations and materials.

Abstract

A vehicle seat assembly (10) includes a lower seat frame (12), a seat back (14) pivotally connected with respect to the lower seat frame (12), and a recliner mechanism (16) secured between the seat back (14) and the lower seat frame (12) for adjusting the angle of the seat back (14) relative to the lower seat frame (12). An attachment bracket (18) is secured between lower seat frame (12) and the recliner mechanism (16). The attachment bracket (18) is adapted to behave as a four-bar linkage in a vehicle collision when a force is applied to the seat backe (14). The attachment bracket (18) preferably includes a top member (18a) secured to the seat backe (14), a bottom member (18b) secured to the lower seat farme (12), and front and back members (18c, 18d) connecting the ends of the top and bottom members (18a, 18b). Various embodiments are disclosed wherein the top, bottom, front, and back members (18a, 18b, 18c, 18d) are separate members joined by pivoting joints (19) or part of a one-piece member joined by zones of deformable material.
