Abstract

A main cable (2) is installed for suspension which is composed of a synthetic fiber rope which is made by bundling a plurality of strands (9) each formed by twisting together wires (6) made of synthetic resin fiber and in which the wires (6) forming the strands (9) are disposed at high density in the cross section, and the main cable is suspended. An elevator device in which the cars (3, 4) of the elevator are suspended by this main cable (2). This increases the strength per unit area of the cross section of the main cable (2). Therefore, it is possible to reduce the number of main cables (2) suspending the cars (3, 4) and to reduce the size of equipment, such as sheaves, associated with suspension by the main cable (2).
