Abstract
1362513 Cable tapes TELEFLEX Ltd 16 June 1971 [16 March 1970] 12587/70 Headings D1R and D1T [Also in Division B5] A ribbon-like cable is constituted solely of a laminate wholly enclosed within and directly bonded to a plastics matrix, the laminate being constituted solely of a plurality of layers superimposed one upon another with each layer extending substantially the width of the cable, each of the individual layers being constituted solely of a plurality of discrete, flexible filaments which are wholly encapsulated within and directly bonded to an encapsulating material which separates the filaments in each layer from each other and from the filaments in adjacent layers. In the examples the encapsulating material is polyurethane and filaments of steel, glass, carbon, nylon or polyester are aligned parallel to the longitudinal axis of the cable. In one embodiment the filaments comprise steel cords each wound from 19 wires. In another embodiment each filament has a rectangular cross-section. A winch for use with the cable is described and claimed in Specification 1362514 (see Division B8). The combination of winch and cable is described and claimed in the present specification.
