Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a devices for curing an incontinence, and more particularly, to a device for curing a urinary incontinence, a disease in which suffers are unable to control their urinations, which is useful in preventing a secondary infection, providing the user a convenience in use and having a good appearance.
  • vaginal muscles of aged women are generally weakened, and such weakening of the vaginal muscles may be a cause of urinary incontinence.
  • secretion of estrogen is gradually reduced due to pregnancy and menopause, and as a consequence, women' s bodies are vastly changed, typically leading to a urinary incontinence.
  • the incontinence is roughly divided into urge incontinence and stress incontinence.
  • Urge incontinence is so urgent as to make a person' s . underpants wet, regardless her intention to control the urination. Urge incontinence is sometimes generated even while going to a rest room or when hearing the sound of water. Neurological injury resulting from delivery and menopause is regarded as one cause of urge incontinence.
  • urge incontinence There are several approaches used in treating urge incontinence: pelvic muscle training exercises and electrical stimulation, etc. Stress incontinence is caused by the pressure from the abdomen (that is, the force within the abdominal cavity) applied when coughing, sneezing, turning a skipping-rope, lifting a heavy article and laughing.
  • pelvic muscle training exercise is divided into self-trained pelvic muscle training exercise, biofeedback or pelvic muscle training exercise aided by a device for curing the urinary incontinence. These treatments have been used as the first and prior treatment because they have few side effects.
  • the symptoms of stress incontinence can be roughly grouped as follows:
  • 1st symptom group Urine is released due to pressure from the abdomen (the internal abdominal force) applied when coughing, sneezing and lifting a heavy article; 2nd symptom group: Urine is released due to such physical movements as sitting and standing, etc.
  • 3rd symptom group Urine is released even while just standing.
  • the 1st and 2nd groups of symptoms of stress incontinence can be sufficiently treated with a non-surgical method, which was developed by Mr. Kegel in 1948: tightening the pelvic floor musculature enclosing and supporting the urethra, the vagina and the anus 100 to 200 times per day.
  • this method is named Kegel exercise, and the principle behind Kegel exercise is to strengthen the muscles of the pelvic floor, thereby improving the urethral sphincter function.
  • the urethra is strengthened and closed enough to prepare spontaneous release of urine, which is very helpful in preventing and curing the incontinence.
  • Mr. Plcvnik invented a device for curing urinary incontinence in 1985.
  • the principle behind this pelvic floor muscle training exercise using Mr. Plcvnik' s device is biofeedback. A woman senses herself that the device inserted into the vagina is slipping out of the vagina due to gravity, and instantly initiates the pelvic floor muscle exercise to prevent the device from slipping out of the vagina.
  • women have an anatomical structure wherein the urethra and the vagina are inclined at a degree of about 60° even when she is standing, and she has also the coccyx.
  • the incontinence curing devices developed to date are helpful for sensing the slipping out of the device from the vagina, assisting the voluntary pelvic floor muscle exercise because the slippage of the device is hindered by the coccyx, and preventing a secondary bacterial inflection because the device needs to be reinserted by hand if it has slipped out of the vagina.
