  • the present invention relates to a material for forming a lid on a package of blister type, the lid comprising a cover film, which is heat sealable to a rim of a lower package part in the form of a tray and is provided with a perforation or the like around or over the tray, and a label, which has substantially the same size as the cover film, is provided with an adhesive on its underside, and has breakable portions for allowing the label to be lifted, breaking said portions, and then to be resealed by the adhesive .
  • a package with a lid of this kind is primarily used for foodstuffs, such as sliced ham, cheese or the like, where it is of importance that the package can be resealed for preserving the freshness of the packed items. It is, however, also of importance that a clear visual indication is given, once the package has been opened and resealed.
  • the plastic material for the lower parts of the packages (to be packed with items) is supplied from a first reel in a packaging machine, whereas the cover film is supplied from a second reel and the preperforated labels with their adhesive layers are arranged on a silicon paper carrier (to be discarded of) from a third reel.
  • the supply and putting together of the materials from the two latter reels cause technical difficulties, also because the registry is of importance.
  • the manufacturing cost is comparatively high, partly because the silicon paper carrier is a waste.
  • the main object with the present invention is accordingly to provide a lid material with which the above drawbacks are obviated.
  • This is according to the invention accomplished in that the lid material is supplied - to the packaging machine - as a prefabricated unit, including the cover film with its perforation, the adhesive, and the label.
  • the material is supplied in the form of a material web to be cut into separate lids in the machine.
  • the entire lid is supplied from one reel in the machine, where the application in one step of the unified lid is greatly facilitated.

  • the package is primarily intended for foodstuffs, for example sliced ham, cheese or the like, where it is of importance to be able to reseal the package after an initial opening.
  • a lower part 1 of the package is shown in Fig 2. It may be vacuum molded of a plastic material and consist of a tray 2 for the items to pack and a peripheral flat rim 3.
  • the tray 2 and the rim 3 may have the same outer configuration, but - as more clearly appears in Fig 1 - the tray 2 may be circular and the rim 3 square.
  • a resealable lid 4 for the package may cover the whole rim 3 but may equally well - as is shown in Fig 1 - terminate somewhat inwardly from the rim edge .
  • the lid 4 consists basically of two layers, namely a cover film 5 and a label 6, of which in principle only the label 6 is visible in Fig 1, in which the package is sealed.
  • the cover film 5 is underneat the label 6.
  • the cover film 5 is made of a heat sealable plastic material and is provided with a perforation, preferably along the major portion of the tray 2.
  • the label 6 is at its underside provided with an adhesive for its removable fastening to the cover film 5.
  • the label 6 may be provided with perforations 7.
  • An end perforation may be provided with a lift tab 8, whereby the label 6 may be lifted.
  • the perforations 7 will be broken, and the adhesive has such strength that the cover film 5 over the tray 2 will be lifted, breaking also the cover film perforation, so that the package is permanently opened.
  • the adhesive will effect a resealing against the cover film 5 over the rim 3, so that the items in the package are protected.
  • FIG. 1 A conventional machine for accomplishing filled packages of the kind described above is illustrated in Fig 3.
  • a plastic material 10 for the lower part 1 of the package is supplied for example from a reel 11.
  • the tray 2 In a first machine station 12 the tray 2 is vacuum formed, and in a second station 13 the items, for example slices of ham or cheese, are filled into the tray.
  • plastic material 15 for the cover film 5 is supplied from a separate reel 14 plastic material 15 for the cover film 5 is supplied.
  • a third machine station 16 the material is perforated to suit the tray 2 and also the border of the rim 3.
  • Perpendicularly hereto labels 6 on silicon paper 17 are supplied from a reel 18 therefore and are attached - after removal from the silicon paper - by the adhesive thereon to the cover film 5 in a fourth machine station 19.
  • the cover film material 15 with the labels 6 is brought down into contact with the lower part plastic material 10 in register with the tray 2 and is heat sealed thereto in a fifth machine station 20.
  • a sixth machine station 20A the string of packages is severed into separate packages, ready for distribution to customers.
  • FIG. 4 A new lid material for simplifying the process of manufacturing packages of the type shown in Fig 1 and described above is illustrated in Fig 4. It has to be pointed out that the relative thicknesses of the material layers in Fig 4 are very exaggerated in relation to the lower part 1 of the package shown therein.
  • the new material which is supplied in a completed state to the machine corresponding to the one shown in Fig 3, basically consists of the cover film 5, the adhesive 21, and the label 6. It may also have a paint and lacquer layer 22 and laminate layer 23. These two layers 22 and 23, however, are optional and do not have anything to do with the function of the material in the machine or in the final package .
  • cover film 5 (with the adhesive 21) is provided with a perforation 24 corresponding to the border of the tray 2 and that the label 6 is shown with a perforation 7 (see Fig 1) .
  • the label perforation 7 also extends through the layers 22 and 23.
  • breakable portions As a modification to the material according to the invention, it is possible to abstain from the perforations 7 in the label 6 and to make use of a separate, permanently adhered seal, which is applied over the border of the label and breaks, when the package is opened for the first time.
  • the label perforations and the seal are collectively referred to as "breakable portions" .
  • cover film perforation preferably extends along the major portion of the tray.
  • the package is used for dye stuff for home colouring of textiles.
  • the cover film is here provided with smaller hole “perforations" over the tray, through which holes the dye stuff leaves the package in a controlled way, when the opened package is put into a colouring bath.
  • the label 6 may be lifted by means of the lift tab 8 at a corner perforation 7.
  • Another practical possibility is to provide a small corner area of the label with a paint layer over the adhesive, so that the label easily can be lifted here.
  • a third possibility is that - preferably after the application of the lid on the lower part 1 - a corner of the lower part is perforated together with the cover film 5, so that a lift tab for the label 6 is created.

Abstract

L'invention concerne un couvercle (4) pour un emballage-coque comprenant une étiquette (6) et un film de couverture (5), thermosoudé à un bord (3) d'une partie inférieure (1) de l'emballage sous forme de plateau (2) et dont la périphérie du plateau est perforée (24). L'étiquette (6), présentant quasiment la même taille que le film (5), comprend des parties détachables (7) permettant de soulever l'étiquette et de la recoller avec l'adhésif. La matière de couvercle est acheminée vers une machine de fabrication d'emballages sous forme d'unité préfabriquée et comprend le film de couverture perforé et l'étiquette.
