Cet ensemble est connecté à un microprocesseur, et par le biais d'un modem éventuellement de type sans fil, les informations sont transmises à un ordinateur central, qui analyse et décide, s'il y a lieu, d'envoyer une instruction (reset, alarme) à une machine connectée. La connexion entre ces machines et l'ordinateur central peut être assurée par des lignes téléphoniques normales ou réservées, ou par un téléphone mobile numérique. Dans ce dernier cas, il est possible d'utiliser le système d'émission de messages SMS utilisant le canal de commande. Ce système permet également de localiser l'emplacement exact de chacune des machines, à l'aide d'un système GPS placé dans ces dernières, ou encore à l'aide des données d'identification envoyées par le canal de commande. Entre les machines et l'ordinateur central, il est possible de coder les informations, et on peut également établir un système de correction des erreurs et de confirmation des informations transmises.
