  • the present invention relates generally to utility knives and more specifically to a spring loaded utility knife wherein the blade is constantly biased toward a retracted position so that upon the removal of manual pressure holding the blade in an exposed cutting position, the blade is automatically retracted to a non-exposed position under the bias of the spring.

Abstract

Afin de permettre une rétraction automatique de la lame après utilisation, un ressort (108) ondulé est formé d'un seul tenant avec un poussoir (110) lequel est inséré de manière à coulisser dans une fente (100S) formée le long du bord supérieur d'un boîtier/manche (100). Le boîtier (100) comporte une protubérance (118) repose-doigt sur le bord inférieur permettant de faciliter l'opération de coupe pendant que la lame (IC1) est avancée à l'aide du pouce. Le deux moitiés (102, 104) du boîtier (100) sont assemblées au moyen d'une saillie (102 B) en forme de bloc formée sur une des moitiés (102), et de deux languettes (104E) formées sur l'autre moitié (104). Les languettes (104E) qui sont souples, glissent le long des côtés de la saillie (102B) jusqu'à atteindre des évidements (102D) formés de chaque côté de la saillie (102B). L'extrémité des languettes présente des nervures (104R) dirigées vers l'intérieur qui entrent dans les évidements (102D) pour réaliser un verrouillage à cliquet. Une ouverture (104D) entre les languettes (104E) permet l'application d'une pression sur le sommet de la saillie (102B) ce qui permet de séparer les deux moitiés (102, 104) pour la mise en place/le rajustement de la lame. Le porte-lame (106), qui convient à deux types de lames (IC1, IC2), est monté de manière coulissante dans le boîtier (100) de manière que le porte-lame et le poussoir (110) sont tous deux dépourvus de crans et de cliquet.
