Abstract

The present invention pertains to the mining industry and may be used for exploiting ore fields regardless of their thickness and bedding angle as well as for reducing the amount of day-lighting operations. This invention comprises drilling the field by forming underground excavations and exploiting the main reserves during open-air mining operations so as to form protection benches (15) on the edges (6) (shoulders) of the quarry. The reserves of each layer (3) are exploited on a same plane by exploding down-holes (13) towards the quarry edges (6) so as to form protection prisms (7) along the planned outline of said quarry. The prisms are then broken down during the final step of operations on the layer so as to form a bank which is vertical or close to the vertical within the limits of said layer (bank). The mining mass thus obtained from the protection prism (7) break-down process is then transferred to underground transport excavations in the lower layer (3) and further extracted towards the surface. The rocks of the edge massif are finally reinforced by injection and/or by placing prestressed anchors (11).
