  • the state of the art comprises hydraulic motors with radial cylinders that can operate with two or three displacements . They are equipped with crank and radially mo- bile eccentric actuated by double acting hydraulic cylinder inside the crank: the complete retraction of said cylinder retracts the crank to its minimim eccentricity, thereby setting the motor at its minimum displacement; on the other hand, the complete extension of the crank ex- tends to its maximum eccentricity, thereby setting the motor at its maximum displacement .
  • variable displacement motors have considerable disadvantages due to the difficulty in adjusting the displacement to just two values; furthermore, they are difficult to manufacture owing to the sizing of the cylinder inside the crank and its actuation, in that it needs at a higher pressure than the inlet system pressure or to have a much larger area in order to counteract the forces stressing the crank.
  • a first mechanical device included an element which expands radially within one of the two chambers of the said internal cylinder so as to limit its stroke. This solu- tion, however, proved to be unreliable owing to the uncertain positioning of the radial expansion element, making it unusable. It appears that is no longer manufactured.
  • a second electronic device uses a proportional CVM hy- draulic valve to control the said cylinder inside the crank, therby continously controlling the displacement at all times during operation.
  • plastic presses only require that the displacement of the hydraulic motor be adjusted when setting up a new production run, and until the press has to be set up for a different part the displacement of the motor does not need to be changed.
  • the said electronic device for controlling the variation of the displacement, if used on plastic presses, is extremely costly and does not make the most of the particular capabilities of the continuous control of the displacement.
  • the prior art comprises radial piston hydraulic pumps with variable displacement, in which the eccentrici- ty is achived by moving in a radial direction the external ring on which the sliding shoes of each piston slides, whereas the cylinders rotate in unison with the drive shaft: such an arrangement is only advantageous for pumps, but may not be applied to motors owing to the geometry of the forces produced in generating the output torque .

  • the adjusting of the displacement is continuous, and stepped only owing to the need to lock the external crank to the reference disk; whereas with a drive motor, advantageously electric, the angular position of the axial pin, and therefore the radial posi- tion of the mobile eccentric ring may be adjusted as desired, so as to achieve continuous adjusting between the minimum and maximum values of the displacement.
  • the same hydraulic machine may operate both as motor and as pump, owing to the well known reversibility of the volumetric machines, with the possibility of operating both in closed circuits and open circuits, that is, with the intake directly from the tank and without auxiliary charge pumps .

  • the integral motion between the external crank and the reference disk takes place precisely on account of the constancy of the position of the said ring 8 and indicates the position of the crank 18, by means of the reference disk.
  • the external crank 26, in the folded position, and the disk 34 are protected by a casing, not shown, to avoid accidents to the user.
  • the user halts the motor and oper- ates manually by rotating the external crank 26 in order to modify at will the eccentricity of the said mobile eccentric ring 8, thus varying the displacement value.
  • the motion imparted to the external crank 26, by means the axial pin 25, is transmitted to the helical pinion 23, which, in presence of the normal resisting torque applied the drive shaft 1, rotates and transmits the rotation to the helical gear wheel 22.
  • the said helical gear wheel in turn transmits the motion to the helical gear wheel 10 to which is coupled: in this way the axial rotation of the external crank is transformed into rotation of the helical gear wheel and by means of the two threaded bushes 12, keyed at its extremities 11 and coupled to the internal thread 19, causes the mobile eccentric ring 8 to traverse along the V axis of the said gear wheel 10 to the desired value.
  • the overall metallic contact between the surfaces 13 of the ring 8 and the bushes 12 and extremity 11 of the screw, is mainteined by the pads 14, realized in different material so as to avoid the welding due to creeping "fritting" .
  • the rotation of the axial pin 25 with regard to the drive shaft can thus be effected with the hydraulic machine in motion, since the electric motor is fed by means of slip- rings contacts . 5
  • the electric motor governing the rotation of the axial pin 25 can be replaced by an hydraulic motor likewise operated with a rotating manifold .
  • Tests indicate that the helical toothing of the pinion 23 and of the wheels 22 and 10 is advantageously inclined at 10 45 degrees .
  • the figures illustrate a radial piston hydraulic mo- 20 tor/pump of the type with oscillating cylinders 4, that is, without connecting rod.
  • the present invention could be applied, with the same results, to the hydraulic motors/pumps with cylinders fixed to the stator and with connecting rods between the pistons and the crank 18. 25
  • variable- displacement helical gear device is driven.
  • rotation for the purpose of varying the displacement, could be scheduled only at the time of construction or by technical intervention when varying the 35 use of the motor/pump: it s equipped with the device for varying displacement, according to this invention, set at predetermined fixed displacement, to avoid tampering by unauthorised personnel .
  • rotation of the external crank 26 could tale place without intermediate positions, the screw device governing the mobile eccentric ring 8 only regulating the machine to maximum or minimum displacement .
  • the reference disk 34 could be a subdivided into toothed sectors for the mounting of the said external crank 26 to allow precise rotation through segments of a circle.
  • the block between the said reference disk 34 and the external crank 26 could be effected with a clutch mechanism, thereby obviating the need to respect predeterminet- ed subdivisions as described above, and allowing continuous variation of displacement.
  • the driving of the axial pin 25 could be actuated, with the hydraulic machine in motion, by means a differential gearing, or epicycliclic gear train, connected to the said pin and to the sleeve 33 and operated manually from outside its housing; the rotation of the drive shaft 1 provides the drive to modify the reciprocal angle between the pin and the sleeve; inversion of the drive could be achived with the use of at least one idle gear.
  • Said gearing could be realized with friction wheels instead of cogwheels .

Abstract

Cette machine hydraulique à pistons radiaux et à cylindrée variable comprend un stator (2) à l'intérieur duquel tourne un arbre coudé (1) avec une manivelle (18) ayant un anneau excentrique (8) pouvant se déplacer dans la direction du rayon de manivelle (V), un moyen de positionnement de cet anneau excentrique, une série de cylindres (4) et des pistons correspondants (5) agissant sur la manivelle, ledit moyen de positionnement se composant d'une vis (12; 11; 10) située sur l'axe du rayon de manivelle (V) et couplée à un filetage interne (19) ménagé dans le coude de l'arbre (1); la vis est en outre entraînée de l'extérieur du stator au moyen d'une transmission (25) constituée par des roues dentées hélicoïdales (10; 22; 23), avec une roue intermédiaire à axe oblique (22) par rapport à la direction du rayon de manivelle (V) et par rapport à la direction de l'axe de l'arbre moteur (R). Cette machine hydraulique peut fonctionner à la fois comme moteur et comme pompe en circuit ouvert ou en circuit fermé.
