Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a metal frame for eyeglasses.
  • Eyeglasses produced in a wide variety of shapes, models, structures and materials are currently commercially available.
  • each eyewire is constituted by a single loop-like element which is interrupted by the part for hinging to the corresponding temple and has a concave cross- section, such as to contain the rim of the corresponding lens.
  • the ends of the loop-like element are shaped so as to form bushings which have respective coaxial holes in which a screw engages; said screw is meant to keep the components assembled and joined.
  • the two bushings can be part of the hinge structure; for example, one can be joined to the female part of the hinge and the other one can be free so as to fix to the remaining part by means of the screw, or both may be separate and spaced from the hinge structure.
  • the presence of the screw is required in order to avoid the opening of the loop-like element and the disengagement of the lens.
  • the aim of the present invention is therefore to provide a metal frame for eyeglasses which eliminates the drawback mentioned above in conventional types.
  • a consequent primary object of the present invention is to eliminate the retention screw which is currently used to keep the looplike lens retaining element closed.
  • Another important object is to provide a metal frame in which the parts meant to support the lenses are not subject, as a consequence of their use, to deformations entailing the risk that said lenses may disengage from the frames.
  • Another object is to provide a metal frame which does not have particular constructive complications with respect to conventional ones.
  • Another object is to provide a metal frame for which lens replacement is more straightforward.
  • Another object is to provide a metal frame which can be manufactured by means of conventional equipment and facilities.
  • a metal frame for eyeglasses comprising a front with a lens supporting eyewire, a bridge between the eyewires, and temples which are pivoted to the ends of the front, each eyewire having a concave cross-section which is such as to contain the rim of the corresponding lens and being constituted by a loop-like element which is interrupted in the region for hinging to the corresponding temple, characterized in that the ends of said loop-like element are extended by respective rod-like extensions which end at one of the hinge elements and are joined thereto, the length of said extensions being such as to allow the spacing, by elastic deformation of the assembly, of said ends of said loop-like element and the widening of said eyewire in order to remove or insert the lens.
  • the ends of said loop-like element are mutually separate.
  • figure 1 is a front view of a pair of eyeglasses according to the present invention
  • figure 2 is a side view of the frame of the eyeglasses of figure 1, with the temples open in the active configuration
  • figure 3 is an enlarged-scale view of a detail of the region for the mutual hinging of the temple and the front.
  • the metal frame for eyeglasses comprises a front, generally designated by the reference numeral 10, with supporting eyewires 11 for lenses 12, a bridge 13 which joins the eyewires 11, and temples 14 which are associated by means of hinges 15 with the ends of the front 10.
  • Each eyewire 11 has a concave cross-section, in this case a C-shaped one, such as to contain the rim 16 of the corresponding lens 12, and is constituted by a single loop- like element which is interrupted in the region for hinging to the corresponding temple 14.
  • ends 17 and 18 of said loop-like element that constitutes each eyewire 11 are mutually separate, and respective rod-like extensions 19 and 20 protrude therefrom; the extensions end at a block 21, which constitutes the female element of the hinge 15, and are joined thereto.
  • the extensions 19 and 20 are constituted by two metal wire elements which are shaped so as to form substantially a right angle and have tips which are welded to the ends 17 and 18 of the eyewire 11 at one end and to the block 21 at the other end.
  • the extensions are mutually parallel and have such a length as to allow the spacing, by elastic deformation of the assembly, of the ends 17 and 18 of the rod-like element that constitutes the eyewire 11 and widen it in order to remove or insert the lens 12.
  • the extensions 19 and 20 made for example of steel, constitute two leaf springs which cantilever out of the block 21 and retain the ends 17 and 18 of the eyewire 11 in position but are also suitable to be deformed elastically, by forcing them, in order to open the loop of the eyewire 11 and remove or insert the lens 12.
  • the hinge 15, in this case, is formed by two half- pivots 22, which protrude from the temple 14 and enter corresponding coaxial holes 23 of fork-like extensions 24 which protrude from the block 21.
  • a rod-like element 25 cantilevers out of the temple 14 and rests laterally against the block 21 on the opposite side with respect to the hinge axis in order to constitute a leaf spring for the extra-wide elastic opening of the temple
  • the assembly constituted by the lens and the eyewire in fact has no threaded assembly element.
  • the two rod-like extensions 19 and 20 do not change their state over time maintaining the closed configuration of the eyewire 11 so as to retain the lens 12 unless external forces divaricate them.
  • the materials used may be any according to the requirements.
