Definitions
- the present invention relates to eyeglass components for assembly to lenses.
- Eyeglasses are in fact mainly characterized by the structure of the frame that supports the lenses.
- eyeglasses should be adapted to the shape of the head of the user in particular in relation to the parts on which the frame rests, to the position of the nose and to the position of the ears.
- eyeglasses it is also inappropriate to ignore the pantoscopic angle, i.e., the angle between the temples and the lens plane, which is also dependent on the structural configuration of the head.
- the aim of the present invention is to provide eyeglass components which can be assembled directly to the lenses, so that they can be chosen by a user according to the structural configuration of his head.
- an important object of the present invention is to provide eyeglass components which can be easily assembled to the lenses, so that this operation can be performed directly by the optician.
- Another important object is to provide eyeglass components which can be assembled to the lenses safely and can prevent any unwanted mutual rotation of the parts.
- Another important object is to provide eyeglass components to be assembled directly to the lenses which have a simple and sturdy structure.
- an eyeglass component to be associated with a lens, characterized in that it comprises, on an end region, a first flat part and a second flat part which are mutually perpendicular, a transverse hole being formed in said second part, said first and second parts of said component being suitable to rest respectively against the edge and the adjacent part of one of the sides of said lens, so that the transverse hole formed in said second part is aligned with a corresponding through hole formed in the lens, in order to allow to insert a locking screw therein, at least one of said first and second parts being provided with a protruding element which is rigidly coupled thereto and is suitable to interfere with said lens in order to prevent any unwanted rotation thereof.

- Figure 19 is an exploded view of a detail of eyeglasses with a rimmed lens frame in a further embodiment of the invention.
- a pair of eyeglasses obtained by assembling components according to the present invention to two lenses 11 is designated by the reference numeral 10.
- said components that cooperate so as to form the eyeglasses 10 comprise a bridge 12 which is interposed between the two lenses 11 with which two connecting pieces 13 are associated on the opposite side, each connecting piece being hinged to a respective temple 14.
- the bridge 12 is preferably made of plastics, but it can be made of metal or of another material that can be cast or injection-molded, and it has an elongated arc-like structure which, in this embodiment, has a rectangular transverse cross-section.
- Each end 15 of the bridge 12 is shaped so as to form a first part 16 and a second part 17 which are substantially perpendicular to each other.
- the first part 16 is suitable to rest, in the active configuration, at a portion of the edge 18 of the lens 11 and accordingly its dimensions match those of said edge.
- the outward side of the lens 11 of the eyeglasses 10 is designated by the reference numeral 19 and the inward side of said lens is designated by the reference numeral 20; the second part 17, in the active configuration, is suitable to rest against a corresponding region of the lens 11 that is adjacent to the portion of the edge 18 of the inward side 20.
- a first through hole 21 and a second through hole 22 are formed at said region of the lens 11, starting from the edge portion 18.
- said first and second holes 21 and 22 are close to each other and run parallel to each other; in particular, the first hole 21, which lies closer to the edge portion 18, is smaller than the second hole 22.
- a third through hole 23 and a fourth through hole 24 are correspondingly formed in the second part 17 of the bridge 12, starting from the region that is directed toward the first part 16; their dimensions are substantially equivalent to those of the corresponding first and second holes 21 and 22 formed in the lens 11.
- a nosepad support of the per se known type, is designated by the reference numeral 27 and is constituted by a wire-like support 28 made of metallic material which is conveniently shaped so as to have a first hook- shaped end 29 to which a nosepad 30 is fixed.
- said wire-like support 28 comprises a U- shaped portion, which in practice forms an eyelet 31, and a second end 32, which is straight and substantially perpendicular to the arrangement of the eyelet 31.
- the second end 32 engages, sequentially, inside the third hole 23 formed in the second part 17 and is suitable to pass through the first hole 21 formed in the lens 11.
- the insertion of the second end 32 in the third hole 23 of the bridge 12 allows to arrange the eyelet 31 against the region of the part 17 that is directed toward the inside of the eyeglasses 10 at the fourth through hole 24.
- the bridge 12 is fixed to the lens 11 by inserting a screw 25 which passes sequentially through the second hole 22 of the lens 11, then through said fourth hole 24 of the second part 17, and, after exiting, through said eyelet 31 and finally screws into a locking nut 26 at the internal region of the eyeglasses 10.
- the assembly of the nosepad support 27 to the bridge 12 is stable and at the same time the passage of the second end 32 through the lens 11 in the first hole 21 prevents any unwanted mutual movement of the lens 11 and of the bridge 12 and increases the effectiveness of the assembly and the overall stability of the eyeglasses 10.
- the user can therefore choose the bridge 12 and the nosepad support 27 that are most suited to the structure of his face and particularly of his nose. After doing this, the optician himself assembles the lenses 11 and the bridge 12 with a limited number of simple operations.
- said third hole 123 and said fourth hole 124 of the second part 117 which in the active configuration is suitable to rest against a portion of the lens 111 of the inward side, are aligned so as to match the notch 121 and the second hole 122 formed in the lens 11.
- the insertion of the second end 132 of the nosepad support, now designated by the reference numeral 127, in the third hole 123 of the bridge 112 allows to arrange the eyelet 131 at the fourth through hole 124 of the second part 117.
- a connecting piece 13 provided according to the present invention has a substantially C-shaped structure and has, at a first end 33 which is suitable to be assembled to a lens 11, a first part 34 and a second part 35 which lie at right angles to each other.
- said connecting piece 13 is preferably made of plastics but can also be made of another material, for example a metallic material that can be cast or injection-molded.
- the first part 34 of the connecting piece 13 has dimensions which are equivalent to the thickness of the lens 11.
- a first through hole 36 and a second through hole 37 are formed in the lens 11, starting from the edge, at the region for coupling to the connecting piece 13, and run parallel to each other.
- a third through hole 38 is formed in said second part
- a pin-like protrusion 39 protrudes from the second part 35, between said third hole 38 and said first part 34, and in this constructive configuration is made of metal and is partially inserted and locked in a blind hole 40 formed in said second part 35.
- said first and second holes 36 and 37 formed in the lens 11 are arranged so that when the lens 11 rests on the second part 35 it is possible to insert said protrusion 39 in the first hole 36, while said second hole 37 is aligned with the third transverse hole 38 formed in the second part 35.
- the lens 11 is fixed to the connecting piece 13 by inserting a screw 41 which passes through the second hole 37 of the lens 11, then passes through the third hole 38 of the connecting piece 13 and finally engages in a locking nut 42.
- the user can choose among connecting pieces 13 which all have the same structure but differ in their dimensions. Therefore, according to the shape of his head, the user can choose the two connecting pieces 13 that are most suitable for him, so that the optician merely has to assemble them to the lenses in order to obtain the intended eyeglasses.
- a first different embodiment of a connecting piece is designated by the reference numeral 213 and has, at the end 233 that is suitable to be assembled to a lens 211, a first part 234 and a second part 235 which lie at right angles to each other.
- a notch 236 with a rounded profile and a second through hole 237 are formed in the lens 211 starting from the edge.
- the first part 234 of the connecting piece 213 is dimensionally equivalent to the thickness of the lens 211, and in the second part 235 there is a third through hole 238 whose dimensions are equivalent to those of the second hole 237 formed in the lens 211.
- a protrusion 239 protrudes between said first and second parts 234 and 235 of the connecting piece 213 and is substantially pe ⁇ endicular to both planes of arrangement traced by said parts 234 and 235.
- said protrusion 239 is rounded, so as to be shaped substantially complementarily to the notch 236 formed in the lens 211. It is also noted that as in the preceding cases, said notch 236 and said second hole 237 formed in the lens 211 are arranged so that when the lens
- the lens 211 rests on the second part 235 said protrusion 239 fits in the notch 236, while said second hole 237 is aligned with the third hole 238 formed in the connecting piece 213. Also in this case, the lens 211 is fixed to the connecting piece 213 by inserting a screw 241 which passes through the second hole 237 of the lens
- the structure of the end 233 of the connecting piece 213 can be repeated at both ends 413 of a bridge 412 of the type known commercially as "contoured" and made of plastic material or other material, such as metal suitable for casting or injection-molding, which has an arc-like structure from which two extensions 414 protrude monolithically which are suitable to rest on the nose of the user, as shown in Figure 9.
- the user merely has to choose the "size" of the bridge 412 that is most suited to his facial configuration; after doing this, the optician takes care of fixing each end 413 to the corresponding lens 411, as described above.
- a square-profile notch 336 and a second through hole 337 are formed in the lens, now designated by the reference numeral 311, starting from the edge.
- a first part 334, whose dimensions correspond to the thickness of the lens 311, and a second part 335 are formed on the connecting piece 313, as in the previously described configurations, and are substantially pe ⁇ endicular to each other.
- a third through hole 338 is formed on said second part and its dimensions are equivalent to those of the second hole 337 formed in the lens
- a protrusion 339 protrudes between the first part 334 and the second part
- the connecting piece 313 is substantially pe ⁇ endicular to both of the planes traced by said parts 334 and 335, and in this case has a rectangular transverse cross-section, so as to be shaped complementarily to the notch
- a third different embodiment of a connecting piece is designated by the reference numeral 513 and has, in a manner which is fully equivalent to what is described in Figures 5, 6 and 7, a first part and a second part, designated by the reference numerals 534 and 535 respectively, which are pe ⁇ endicular to each other.
- first part 534 is suitable to rest against the edge of the lens 511
- second part 535 is suitable to rest against the lens 511 at a portion of the outward side which in this case is schematically designated by the arrow 519.
- said first and second parts 534 and 535 are fully equivalent to those designated earlier by the reference numerals 34 and 35.
- a first through hole 536 and a second through hole 537 are formed, starting from the edge, in the lens 511; said holes are parallel to each other, and a third through hole 538 is formed in the second part 535 and is dimensionally equivalent to the second hole 537.
- a metallic tab 539 protrudes from the second part 535 and is partially inserted and locked in a blind hole formed therein.
- the lens 511 is fixed to the connecting piece 513, after inserting the tab
- bridges 12, 112 and 412 described in the preceding solutions may also be modified so that they can be coupled to the lenses at the outward sides.
- a further embodiment of a connecting piece is designated by the reference numeral 613 and has, at the end 633 that is suitable to be assembled to a lens 611, a first part 634 and a second part 635 which are pe ⁇ endicular to each other.
- a notch 636 with a rounded profile and a second through hole 637 are formed in the lens 611 starting from the edge.
- a third through hole 638 is formed in the second part 635 and its dimensions are equivalent to those of the second hole 637 formed in the lens 611.
- a protrusion 639 protrudes between said first part 634 and said second part 635 of the connecting piece 613 and is substantially perpendicular to both planes of arrangement traced by said parts 634 and 635.
- the protrusion 639 is rounded so as to be shaped substantially complementarily to the notch 636 formed in the lens 611.
- the notch 636 and the second hole 637 formed in the lens 611 are arranged so that said protrusion 639 enters the notch 636 while the second hole 637 is aligned with the third hole 638 formed in the connecting piece 613.
- the lens 611 is fixed to the connecting piece 613 by inserting a screw 641 which passes through the second hole 637 of the lens 611, then passes through the third hole 638 of the connecting piece 613, and finally engages in a locking nut 642.
- a wedge 643 having an appropriate angle which is meant to be inserted between the lens 611 and the part 635 of the end 633.
- the wedge 643 is provided with a hole 644 for the passage of the screw 641.
- the optician can alter the angle of a wedge 643 with a file.
- the wedge 643 adds or subtracts its angle from the built-in angle at which the lens is arranged with respect to the connecting components.
- tab 744 which has, starting from its end, a notch 736 provided with a rounded profile and a second through hole 737.
- Said first part 734 of the connecting piece 713 is dimensionally equivalent to the thickness of the tab 744, while in the second part 735 there is a third through hole 738 whose dimensions are equivalent to those of the second hole 737 formed in the tab 744.
- a protrusion 739 protrudes between said first and second parts 734 and 735 of the connecting piece 713 and is substantially pe ⁇ endicular to both planes of arrangement traced by said parts 734 and 735.
- the protrusion 739 is rounded, so that it is shaped substantially complementarily to the notch 736 formed in the tab 744.
- said notch 736 and said second hole 737 formed in the tab 744 are arranged so that when the tab 744 rests on the second part 735 said protrusion 739 enters the notch 736 while said second hole 737 is aligned with the third hole 738 formed in the connecting piece 713.
- the tab 744 is fixed to the connecting piece 713 by inserting a screw 741 which passes through the second hole 737 of said tab, then passes through the third hole 738 of the connecting piece 713 and finally engages in a locking nut 742.
- the structure of the end 733 of the connecting piece 713 can be repeated at both ends of a bridge and of a corresponding tab of the eyewire 743 (both of which are not shown). In this case, one avoids the delicate work on the lens which in the other cases must be performed by the optician, with all the consequent possible problems.
- connecting piece-eyewire structures can of course be configured in a manner similar to the structures shown in Figures 1 to 7.
- a hinge 44 is arranged between said temple 14 and the corresponding connecting piece 13 and comprises a male element 45 which protrudes from the end of the temple 14 and is inserted between the two parallel wings 46 of a complementarily shaped female element 47. Said female element protrudes from the second end 48 of the connecting piece 13.
- a first through hole 49 is formed in each one of the wings 46 of the female element 47 and a second through hole 50 is formed correspondingly in the male element 45 and is suitable to be aligned with said first holes 49 when the male element 45 is inserted between the wings 46 of the female element 47.
- a pin 51 is inserted in said first and second through holes 49 and 50 so as to act as an articulation pivot for the hinge 44.
- said pin 51 is obtained by bending a metallic lamina which is rolled up several times until it forms a tubular structure.
- said pin 51 can be inserted very easily after it has been manipulated with a suitable tool in order to reduce its dimensions by simple constriction. " After this has been done, it is inserted, by using a per se known suitable tool, in said first and second through holes 49 and 50; then, once it is released, the pin 51 tends to return to the inactive position, expanding until it regains its initial dimensions.
- said pin 51 interferes with at least one of said first and second through holes 49 and 50 (particularly the one that has the smallest diameter) and thus remains locked.
- eyeglass components have been provided which can be chosen by the user according to his facial configuration and can then be directly assembled to the lenses so as to obtain eyeglasses which are practically made to measure.
- the described eyeglass components can be assembled to the lenses safely and stably, obtaining eyeglasses which are not affected by problems related to mutual rotations and movements of the parts. Another advantage worth noting relates to the fact that the described eyeglass components have a simple and sturdy structure.
- the materials used may be any according to requirements.
