Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a railway transport waggon, intended for transport of a load, preferably a rail switch, including a vehicle frame with wheel sets and a load bed, which is pivotably connected to the vehicle frame in the longitudinal direction thereof and is pivotable by means of hydraulic cylinders, whose upper ends are pivotably connected to the load bed, between a generally horisontal loading and unloading position and a folded-up transport position.
  • the drawback with this design is among other things that it does not provide any support against the ground, which can be required at loading and unloading, when the rail switch is in a horisontal position and exerts big forces on the long and slender vehicle frame in the form of a box girder. For obtaining ground support separate hydrau ⁇ lic cylinders are thus required.
  • the Invention For removing this drawback and attaining a design which is advantageous also from other view points a railway transport waggon according to the invention is character ⁇ ized in that each hydraulic cylinder at its lower end is pivotably connected to one end of a support leg, the other end of which is pivotably connected to the vehicle frame.
  • the hydraulic cylinder will obtain the double function to pivot the load bed in the desired way and to provide ground support.
  • This ground support is obtained under all operations except in the transport position.
  • the hydraulic cylinder is unloaded from the weight of the load bed by means of a strut, which is pivotably connected to the load bed at one of its ends and can be supported by the vehicle frame at its other end.
  • the hydraulic cylinder may lift the support leg from ground contact by decreasing its length.
  • the support leg is preferably locked to the vehicle frame during transport .
  • each hydraulic cylinder has a double function, the total number of cylinders can be minimized.
  • the load bed is arranged as a framework a satisfactory stiff ⁇ ness of the waggon is obtained at a folded-up bed, whereas the stiffnes substantially decreases at a folded down bed.
  • the major part of the forces will be transferred directly from the bed to the ground through the cylinders and are not to be taken up by the vehicle frame.
  • Fig 1 is an end view of a railway transport waggon according to the invention in a transport position with the loading bed fol ⁇ ded up
  • Fig 2 is a sideview to a smaller scale of the waggon with a rail switch loaded thereon
  • Fig 3 is an end view corresponding to Fig 1 with the load bed folded down and the waggon in a position for loading and unloading
  • Fig 4 corresponds to Fig 3 but is a section through the vehicle frame
  • Fig 5 corresponds to Fig 1 but is a section through the vehicle frame
  • Fig 6 is a section corresponding to Fig 5 with the load bed in the final phase of its folding up.
  • a railway transport waggon according to the invention has a longitudinal vehicle frame 1, that preferably is in the form of a box girder, which is especially clear from the sectional views Figs 4 - 6.
  • Conventional wheel sets or bogies 2 are arranged under the ends of the frame 1.
  • a buffer plank 3 buffers 4, a coupling 5 and air connections 6.
  • a rail switch 9 can be loaded on the load bed 7, as is shown in Figs 1 and 2.
  • Such a rail switch has normally such a width that it can not be transported in a laying condition due to the limits of the load profile 10 of the railway, the load profile being suggested in Figs 1 and 3 - 6 by a dash dotted line.
  • Each hydraulic cylinder 11 is pivotably connected to the load bed at its upper end and pivotably connected to a support leg 12 at its lower end, the support leg being provided with a ground plate 13 at this end.
  • the support leg 12 is at its other end pivotably connected at 14 at a part of the vehicle frame 1.
  • the cylinder 11 can be shortened for lifting up the support leg 12 to the position shown in Fig 5.
  • the support leg 12 can here be locked to the vehicle frame 1 by means of a pin 16 in a support leg hole 17 and a hole 17' in the vehicle frame (Fig 4) .
  • the waggon can be equipped with one or several hydraulically operated ground supports 18 under the connection 8 of the load bed 7 in the vehicle frame 1.
  • the load bed 7 is provided with a number, for example nine load anchoring devices or load hooks 19 distributed along the length of the waggon.
  • Each such load hook 19 is at its upper or right hand end in the drawings attached to the load bed and includes a rod, which may be mechanically extended by means of threads, and a hook means for engagement with the lower rail foot on a rail switch 9 arranged on the load bed 7.
  • a boom device 20 is illustrated in Figs 1 and 3 and can be folded out from either end of the load bed 7 for supporting a part of a rail switch extending out from the load bed.
  • hydraulic cylinder is not intended to form any limitation; other linear driving devices, such as pneu ⁇ matic cylinders and electrical positioning means, are also intended to be covered by the claims below.
