Description

The invention relates to a method for packaging perishable packaged goods, in which a film tube is gathered into a braid after filling at least one open end, the braid is then closed with a clip and the packaged goods are then sterilized.
It is common today to fill long-life cooked sausages, namely liver and blood sausages, but also animal and baby food, into a plastic casing, the ends of which are gathered into a braid after filling and closed with clips, whereupon the packaged goods in the closed tubular film packaging in one Autoclave is boiled and thereby sterilized. This is done with the aim of achieving the longest possible, uncooled shelf life of the packaged goods. Experience has shown, however, that around 10% of the packaging goods packaged in the manner described spoil prematurely because, for example, bacteria penetrate the inside of the packaging through the braid. The invention has for its object to prevent the spoilage of packaged goods in a tubular film packaging more reliably than before.
This object is achieved, according to the invention, in a method of the type mentioned at the outset, in which the end of the braid is sealed with hot-liquid sealant of at least 120 ° C. after sterilization.
The essence of the invention is that the sealing according to the invention can also be carried out after the sterilized packaging has cooled, because bacteria which may have penetrated into the film braid are killed by the sealing compound which is at least 1 20 ° C. Shrinking processes of the film material during sterilization and cooling cannot impair the sealing. In addition, the packaging produced by the method according to the invention is also particularly leakproof because fats and oils are washed out of the inside of the braid during sterilization, so that the adhesion of the sealing compound to the braid is significantly improved if it is not made possible by sterilization in the first place becomes.
It is known from DE-PS 40 1 9 937 and DE-OS 35 00 625 to seal the free end of each film tube braid closed with a clip with sealing compound. In this way, penetration of oxygen and moisture, as well as bacteria and fungi, is to be prevented. However, this does not easily succeed in the case of filled packaging to be sterilized: if the seal were applied to the end of the packaging before or immediately after sterilization, there would be leaks as a result of the shrinking of the film tube during cooling after sterilization because the shrinking film tube detaches from the sealing compound. If, on the other hand, the packaging was only sealed after cooling, there is a risk that the packaging, which contracts when cooling, may become bacteria, e.g. from the cooling water.
A preferred variant of the method according to the invention consists in immersing the sterilized braid in a liquid sealing compound for sealing for a limited time and then allowing the sealing compound adhering to the braid to dry after immersion. Immersing the braid to be sealed in the liquid sealing compound can further increase the tightness and reliability of the braid fastener. During the immersion, the liquid sealing compound can be particularly well in the capillaries of the penetrate the packing braid and close it. An alternative to immersing the sterilized braid in the liquid sealant is then to spray the sealant onto the braid using a nozzle.
A preferred development of the method then consists of immersing the braid so far into the sealant that the braid and the clip are wetted with sealant. Since the clip is also surrounded by sealing compound, the sealing compound can claw particularly well at the closed end of the pigtail, so that it does not detach from the pigtail end even under unfavorable circumstances.
Thermoplastics which remain elastic after cooling or hardening are suitable as sealing compound. Adhesives that harden through light, air or water can also be used.
The method according to the invention and a packaging produced with the method will now be explained with reference to the drawing figure. It shows a closed end of a film tube packaging after the packaging according to the invention.
The process begins with the filling of a film tube in the usual way: a film tube supply is drawn onto a filling tube in such a way that one end is located in front of the outlet opening of the filling tube. This end is closed. Now that the filling material is pressed through the filling tube, the filling material enters the film tube and fills it up at the closed end. As the filling mass increases, the film tube is drawn off from the film tube supply on the filling tube. When there is finally a sufficient amount of the filling material in the film tube in front of the filling tube outlet opening, the foil tube is gathered together in a known manner by appropriate tools to form a braid immediately before the filling tube outlet and closed with a clip.
The film tube packaging, which is now closed and filled at both ends, is then separated from the rest of the film tube and can be sterilized. During sterilization, the ends of the braid are simultaneously freed of adhering fat or the like. This makes sterilizing and cleaning the sealed ends of the packaging a step in the process. A separate cleaning is not necessary. As a rule, the entire packaging will be sterilized by heating it to above 120 ° C and then cooling it. The It is heated in an autoclave at an internal pressure of approx. 2.3 bar. After sterilization, the packaged goods and packaging are cooled with cooling water.
A film tube is used for the packaging to be sterilized, which shrinks considerably after sterilization. After the cooling process, the packaging becomes very tight and the braid protruding beyond the clip shrinks by approximately 10 to 20%. However, the foil braid should not protrude beyond the clip if possible in order to achieve a compact, small and material-saving seal. After sterilization, each closed end of the braid is immersed in liquid sealant, so that both the braid and the clip are wetted with sealant. The liquid sealant has a temperature of over 1 20 ° C and helps to ensure that each end of the packaging is sterilized again. After all, it is possible that a braid end comes into contact with bacteria between the actual sterilization and the sealing, for example by cooling water. During the sealing process, the hot, liquid sealant penetrates into the capillaries of the braid and seals them.
The sealant is then left to dry. Since the sealant also includes the closure clip, if possible, it is ultimately practically inseparable from the closed end of the braid.
The result is the image shown in the figure: The one with a filling, e.g. Sausage, filled film tube 10 is gathered together at one end to form a braid 12 and closed with a clip 14. The clip 14 and the braid 1 2 are completely enclosed by dried sealant 1 6. If the packaging was produced by the method according to the invention, such a closure allows the contents to be permanently preserved for more than a year without the packaging and the contents having to be cooled.
