Abstract

Les télécopieurs pourraient assurer des fonctions bien plus complexes qu'il ne le font aujourd'hui. Ils utilisent le 'papier', le support le plus familier des hommes. Les formulaires contenant des informations rédigées sous forme d'écriture normale sont 'faxés' à une UC réceptrice où un programme ROC procède à la conversion du fax en codes. Tandis que les informations converties déclenchent dans l'UC les opérations souhaitées, un ordre de commande du niveau de télécommunication commute le télécopieur qui passe ainsi du mode 'appel' initial au mode 'réception' de telle façon qu'il est prêt à recevoir les résultats du traitement de l'UC. Pour des raisons de sécurité, cela peut également se faire par rappel séparé de l'UC. Tout type de fax, dans le monde entier, peut ainsi être amélioré pour fonctionner de façon similaire à un micro-ordinateur raccordé à un réseau téléphonique, sans qu'il soit nécessaire d'apporter des modifications sur les télécopieurs. L'utilisation du protocole fax standard permet également d'éliminer 'les problèmes de compréhension: qu'il faut surmonter dans le cas d'autres types d'établissement de connexion. L'équipement obtenu est plus qu'une simple plate-forme de communication fondée sur un fax, c'est une plate-forme de traitement ayant les mêmes caractéristiques d'universalité mais qui sont également adaptées à des périphériques d'entrée plus simples que l'écran et le clavier.
