  • the adjustment means may suitably comprise an annular member which extends around the sleeve at said one end of the sleeve and which is contractible for bending the tongue-shaped members radially inwardly.
  • the annular member may comprise a plurality of separate sections, which are distributed along the circumference of the annular member and spaced apart from each other, and adjustment members interconnecting adjacent sections in the circum- ferential direction of the annular member, the distances in said circumferential direction between adjacent sections being adjustable by means of the adjustment members.

  • the feed screw 3 has a core 10 with circular cross-section and with a cross-section area that increases along the feed screw 3 from the inlet end 8 to the outlet end 6 of the feed screw 3, whereby the space 11 between adjacent screw flanks 12 reduces in the feed direction of the feed screw 3.

  • a pulp squeezing means 24 which surrounds the body 16, an annular passage 25 being formed between the squeezing means 24 and the body 16.
  • the squeezing means 24 comprises a cylindrical metallic sleeve 26 which is provided with notches 27, extending axially along a part of the sleeve 26 from one end of the sleeve 26, whereby radially biassing tongue-shaped members 28 of the sleeve 26 are formed between the notches 27, and an adjustment means 29 adapted to bend the tongue-shaped members 28 radially inwardly (figures 3 and 4).
  • the adjustment means 29 comprises an annular member 30 which extends around the sleeve 26 at said one end of the latter and which is contractible for bending the tongue-shaped members 28 radially inwardly, so that the inner surface of the sleeve 26 becomes conical.
  • the annular member 30 comprises four separate sections 31, which are distri ⁇ ubbed along the circumference of the annular member 30 and spaced apart from one another, and four adjustment members in the form of screws 32, which interconnect adjacent sections 31 in the circumferential direction of the annular member 30. By adjusting the screws 32 a desired conicity of the inner surface of the sleeve 26 is achieved.
  • the sleeve 26 is provided with a flange 33, which is attached to the housing 1 by means of bolt joints not shown, so that the sleeve 26 is coaxial with the cylindrical body 16.
  • the adjustment means may comprise two or more wires which are applied on the tongue-shaped members 28 and extending at least partly around the sleeve 26. By stretching the wires the desired conicity of the inner surface of the sleeve 26 can be achieved.
  • the adjustment means may comprise hydraulic devices, which are controllable by hydraulic pressure for providing the desired conicity of the inner surface of the sleeve 26.
  • the shaft 5 is rotated by any suitable drive motor, for instance by an electrical motor, and the pulp to be thickened is supplied to the chamber 2 via the inlet member 7.
  • the feed screw 3 feeds the pulp under compression of the latter through the chamber 2, whereby liquid from a radially outer portion of the pulp is pressed through the screen holes 14 to the outlet member 15.
  • the resulted thickened pulp which enters into the passage 25 is further thickened by means of the squeezing means 24.
  • the conical inner surface of the sleeve 26 of the squeezing means 24 has a predetermined conicity which is adjusted by means of the screws 32.
  • the pulp passes through the passage 25, the cross- section area of which reduces because of the conical inner surface of the sleeve 26, as seen in the feed direction of the pulp, the pulp is squeezed between the squeezing means 24 and the screen member 18.
  • the radially inner portion of the pulp which is more wet than said outer portion of the pulp, is further thickened by liquid being drained from said inner portion of the pulp through the screen member 18 into the annuler chamber 17. From the chamber 17 the liquid flows further to the outlet chamber 21 via the passages 23 and finally out of the device via the outlet 22.
  • the resulted thickened pulp leaving the passage 25 is discharged from the device via the outlet member 9.
  • the latter can be easily released by moving the sections 31 of the annular member 30 away from one another, so that the tongues 28 of the sleeve 26 are biassed back and form the original cylindrical inner surface of the sleeve 26.
  • the sleeve 26 may be designed somewhat conical in an unloaded condition, so that the tongues 28 diverge from one another as seen in the feed direction of the pulp, to further facilitate release of blocking pulp.

Abstract

Une presse à vis pour épaissir une pâte à papier comprend une vis d'alimentation (3), un corps creux sensiblement cylindrique (16) qui est coaxial avec la vis d'alimentation et qui est disposé derrière la vis d'alimentation quand on regarde dans la direction d'alimentation de la vis d'alimentation et un élément de tamis (18) disposé sur le corps creux pour permettre le passage du liquide de la pâte dans le corps. L'élément de tamis (18) est entouré par un moyen (24) de compression de la pâte et un passage (25) par lequel la pâte est déplacée en opération est situé entre le corps et le moyen de compression de la pâte. Le moyen (24) de compression est conçu pour diminuer successivement la section transversale du passage (25) suivant sa longueur, si bien que la pâte est pressée entre le moyen de compression et l'élément de tamis quand la pâte transite par le passage et le liquide est drainé de la pâte vers l'intérieur du corps à travers l'élément de tamis (18). Selon l'invention, le moyen de compression est ajustable pour changer la diminution totale de la section transversale du passage.
