Abstract

Dispositif d'affichage à cristaux liquides à réflexion ou à réflexion semi-transparente dans lequel un panneau d'entrée possédant une paire d'électrodes d'entrée éloignées l'une de l'autre selon un espace prédéterminé, fait partie du même ensemble qu'une cellule de cristaux liquides de type FSTN. Ce dispositif comprend une première et une deuxième plaques de polarisation prenant en sandwich le panneau d'entrée et la cellule de cristaux liquides et une plaque de différence de phases constituée par une feuille en polymère optiquement anisotrope vient en contact étroit avec la surface de la cellule de cristaux liquides. La diminution de la quantité de lumière incidente dans le panneau d'entrée sous l'effet de la première plaque de polarisation provoque la décroissance de la quantité de lumière réfléchie au niveau de la limite entre le panneau d'entrée et la couche d'air ou réfléchie depuis la cellule de cristaux liquides. De plus, étant donné l'absence de couche d'air entre la cellule de cristaux liquides et la plaque de différence de phases, on peut empêcher la coloration causée par la lumière réfléchie traversant soit ladite cellule, soit ladite plaque et réaliser un affichage en noir et blanc extrêmement contrasté.
