Abstract

The invention concerns a wheel brake cylinder (10) having two end regions (12), between which a cylinder bore (16) extends, and an abutment surface (18) which is parallel to the cylinder bore (16) and supports a anchor plate (20) and bores (22) emerging from the abutment surface (18) for securing the wheel brake cylinder (10) on the anchor plate (20). Ducts (24, 26) for a supplying fluid and bleeding the cylinder bore (16) also emerge from the abutment surface (18). The abutment surface (18) has a plurality of depressions (28, 28', 28'') which each accommodate a projection (30, 30', 30'') of the anchor plate (20). One depression (28) is disposed all around the bleeding channel (26), and each of the two further depressions (28', 28'') is each disposed on one side of the fluid duct (24). When the wheel brake cylinder (10) is mounted on the anchor plate (20) the projections (30, 30', 30'') thereof can each penetrate one of the depressions (28, 28', 28'') such that the position of the wheel brake cylinder (10) is reliably determined so that subsequently securing screws can be screwed into the bores (22) without particular attention being necessary.

The invention further relates to a drum brake which is equipped with such a wheel brake cylinder.
From US-A-, 133,073 a wheel brake cylinder of the type mentioned is known, which is manufactured as an extruded profile and in one embodiment has a completely flat contact surface for fastening the wheel brake cylinder to the anchor plate of a drum brake. In another embodiment, this known wheel brake cylinder has a recessed contact surface near its two ends, from each of which a threaded bore for fastening to the anchor plate of the associated drum brake is emitted; between these recessed contact surfaces there remains a base at the original profile height, from which channels for the fluid supply and ventilation of the cylinder bore originate. This base has a rectangular outline and is intended to be used in a complementary punching out of the associated anchor plate. In the first-mentioned embodiment, the wheel brake cylinder requires fastening Attention must be paid to the associated anchor plate, since the fastening bores emanating from the contact surface must be brought into alignment with corresponding holes in the anchor plate before the associated fastening screws can be inserted. The second embodiment requires an ample dimensioning of the profile height, so that, starting from the recessed contact surfaces, fastening bores of sufficient depth can still be produced. In addition, the production of the recessed contact surfaces requires a relatively large amount of machining work.
The invention is therefore based on the object of creating the conditions for the fact that a wheel brake cylinder for drum brakes can be reliably mounted on the associated anchor plate with little effort, without the need for particularly extensive machining work beforehand.
The object is achieved based on a Radbremszy¬ cylinder of the type described in that the system surface has at least one recess for receiving an elevation of the anchor plate. The invention also relates to a drum brake with an anchor plate, which has an elevation which engages in it for each recess of the contact surface of the associated wheel brake cylinder.
According to the invention, in a plane bearing surface, in principle, a wheel brake cylinder can be incorporated with a sufficiently shallow depression or a group of two or more such depressions at any point for centering the wheel brake cylinder with respect to the anchor plate of a drum brake. This can be done, for example, by milling, with only a very small volume needing to be machined. The milling of the or each depression is particularly expedient if the wheel brake cylinder is a section of an extruded profile and its contact surface is not machined apart from the or each depression. However, if the wheel brake cylinder is a cast or forged part, it can be used for Casting or forging can be seen with one or more recesses, the machining of which is generally unnecessary.
It is particularly advantageous if a depression is arranged around the ventilation duct. Such a recess can be produced in the same work step as the usual machining of the ventilation duct. The same also applies to a depression provided around the channel for the fluid supply of the wheel brake cylinder. However, it is generally preferable to arrange such a depression around the ventilation channel, since this usually does not have a seat for sealing against a ventilation nipple screwed into the ventilation channel, but not at its outer end but only at a certain depth.
It is also advantageous if two depressions are arranged on each side of the fluid channel. These depressions are preferably equidistant from the ventilation duct. If a recess is arranged around this, there is a kind of three-point support of the wheel brake cylinder on the anchor plate, which is structurally favorable and has the additional advantage that it is impossible to inadvertently mount the wheel brake cylinder rotated by 180 °.
The depressions are preferably spherical cap-shaped; the same can also apply to the elevations of the anchor plate assigned to them. However, truncated cone-shaped depressions can also be paired with spherical cap-shaped elevations, and vice versa.
Es zeigen: Fig. 1 die Untersicht eines erfindungsgemäßen Radbremszylinder Fig. 2 den Teil-Längsschnitt II-II in Fig. 1, jedoch mit amAn exemplary embodiment of the invention is explained in more detail below with the aid of schematic drawings with further details. Fig. 1 bis 3.1 to 3.
The illustrated wheel brake cylinder 10 is a section of an extruded profile extruded from an aluminum alloy in a doughy state under high pressure; This section has been machined by turning at two end regions 12, an annular groove 14 of a contour customary in wheel brake cylinders being inserted into each of the two end regions 12. A cylinder bore 16 with the axis A extends over the entire length of the wheel brake cylinder 10. The cylinder bore 16 can be produced during extrusion; in this case, subsequent machining is not absolutely necessary. A substantially flat contact surface 18 for fastening the wheel brake cylinder 10 to an anchor plate 20 is formed parallel to the cylinder bore.
28' ' versehen. The contact surface 18 is a rectangle, the width B of which is constant over the entire length between the two end regions 12 and, in the example shown, represents the greatest width of the extruded fil. The extruded profile as such is completely symmetrical with respect to a plane C normal to the contact surface 18, in which the axis A of the cylinder bore 16 lies. Two blind bores 22 extend from the contact surface 18 and lie in a common plane parallel to the central plane C at a short distance. The bores 22 are provided with threads for screws for fastening the wheel brake cylinder 10 to the brake carrier 20. A fluid channel 24 and a ventilation channel 26 also extend from the contact surface 18. In the example shown, the fluid channel 24 extends at right angles to the contact surface 18 and thus parallel to the central plane C; the ventilation channel 26, on the other hand, converges to the central plane C. Around the ventilation channel 26, the contact surface 18 has a recess 28 which has the shape of a spherical cap. On both sides of the fluid channel 24, the contact surface 18 is provided with a further spherical dome-shaped depression 28 ′ or 28 ″.
The anchor plate 20 has three spherical dome-shaped elevations 30, 30 'and 30 "which each engage in one of the depressions 28, 28' and 28". The elevations 30, 30 'and 30' 'are stamped into the anchor plate 20; they appear from the back of the anchor plate 20 as depressions and are also referred to in the technical language as "penetrations". The elevation 30 has a hole 32 concentric with it, through which a venting nipple 34 can be screwed into the fluid channel 26 which is provided with an internal thread for this purpose. Between the elevations 30 'and 30' ', which are not themselves perforated, the anchor plate 20 has a hole 36 through which a connection nipple, not shown, for a brake fluid line can be screwed into the fluid channel 24.
The wheel brake cylinder 10 is fixed according to FIG. 4 with the aforementioned screws (not shown) on the anchor plate 20 in such a way that it rests on it with the entire contact surface 18, including the recesses 28, 28 'and 28''worked into it. A sleeve 38 with an annular bead formed on it engages in each of the two annular grooves 14. The sleeves 38 each protect one of two pistons 40 which are guided in the cylinder bore 18. One end of a brake shoe 42 is supported on each of the two pistons 40 or 44. The two brake shoes 42 and 44 are by return springs 46 and 48 are connected to one another and are supported with their ends facing away from the pistons 40 on an abutment 50 which is fastened to the brake carrier 20. Extending between the two brake shoes 42 and 44 near the wheel brake cylinder 10 is an adjustable strut 52 of a type customary in drum brakes.
