Definitions

  • a rope block especially for use on board sailing boats, comprising a sheave having an outer groove to receive the rope and a housing fixed thereto having a shaft portion, whereon the sheave is rotatably arranged by means of a bearing means, said sheave having lateral wall portions with co-axial, circular grooves being open to the side, and wherein rolling bodies are arranged of such a diameter relative to the depth of the groove that they extend beyond the groove in order to roll on an adjacent track.
  • the object of the invention is to provide a rope block of the above type being more simple and easy to manufacture than hitherto known blocks.
  • the rope block according to the invention is characterised in that at least one of the grooves for the rolling bodies is outwardly defined by an opening having a width being less than the width of the rolling bodies for retaining these in the groove.
  • the rope block may be disassem ⁇ bled and the sheave removed from the housing of the rope block without the rolling bodies falling out of their grooves. Further, a reduction in weight and in the number of parts forming the rope block is obtained by rendering the side plates used on the known rope blocks superfluous. Moreover, as a result hereof, it is possible to increase the width of the bearing face between the sheave and the shaft portion, whereby the surface pressure therebetween may be reduced.

  • the sheave may be provided with an insertion opening for the rolling bodies and a releasable closing means for closing of the insertion opening.
