Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a method and a device with the aid of which the luminance or brightness, contrast or background lighting of screens is automatically and continuously adjusted as a function of the respective average ambient luminance in the visual field of the user.
  • the object of the present invention is therefore to propose a method or a device with the aid of which the luminance of the screen is continuously and automatically adapted to the average luminance in the visual field of the user.
  • the screen is coupled to an external light sensor which can be placed anywhere in the room and which monitors the luminance distribution in the visual field of the user.
  • Figure 1 shows the structure of the device. It comprises at least one light sensor 1, an active connection 2, the control of the screen luminance 3, the screen 4 and the housing 5.
  • the sensor 1 can be individually placed in the room and adjusted so that the detected solid angle corresponds approximately to the visual field of the user.
  • FIG. 2 shows a possible placement of the sensor 1.

  • the brightness and contrast adjustment knobs known on the conventional screens would serve the user to adapt the automatic control of the screen luminance to his own preferences. Another possibility for calibrating the control system is to place and adjust the sensor 1 appropriately. This sensor should then capture the solid angle that the respective user travels most frequently with his gaze.
  • the luminance of the screen can be set between 0 and approx. 100 cd / m2. With these values, luminance ratios of 1 to 3 in the visual field can be easily achieved.
  • a maximum setting of the screen luminance (100 cd / m2) would also ensure a portable luminance milieu with average field of view luminance of up to 300 cd / m2. This value is hardly exceeded in rooms with functioning sun and glare protection measures.
  • FIG. 3 shows a possible control characteristic.
  • the average luminance in the field of view L Q is linear with the screen luminance Lg in the lower region. At the limit, the curve approaches the maximum screen luminance asymptotically. As soon as the optimal luminance ratio 1 to 3 is exceeded, this is indicated by a control lamp on the screen housing 5.
  • the integration of the light sensor 1 into the screen housing 5 itself would also be conceivable. It is also important in this case that sensor 1 (or several sensors) detects the visual field of the user and that the detected solid angle can be set as flexibly as possible.
