Definitions
- the subject of the invention is a percussion firing device for mortar or the like and a mortar or the like comprising such a device.
- a firing device by percussion for mortar or the like comprising a movable striker mounted in translation and means for actuating this striker, by the fact that said striker makes part of a percussion assembly housed in a body integral with the rear base plate of the mortar and which is actuated from a trigger by a spring percussion with interposition of an articulated lever on which is hinged a pivoting arm with which is adapted to cooperate, on the one hand, a control member associated with the trigger-anchor and, on the other hand, a set of movable stop also integral of the rear base plate of the mortar and which is able to cooperate with a fixed member of said mortar.
- the trigger is an electromagnet whose rod is adapted to cooperate with the control member constituted by a push rod on which the action of a return spring is exerted and whose end adjacent to the rod of one electromagnet comprises a rocking mechanism pivotally mounted about an axis substantially perpendicular to that of sliding of the pusher.
- the percussion assembly comprises: a striker proper, of circular cross section, split along longitudinal conduits and movable in a first bore of the body fixed to the rear base plate of the mortar;
- the invention also provides that the lever articulated at one of its ends on the rod connecting the striker proper and the piston is also articulated at its other end on cheeks carrying the body integral with the rear base plate of the mortar.
- the latter also carries the movable stop assembly constituted by an arming finger mounted to slide against the action of a compression spring with adjustable tension by means of an adjustment screw on which is adapted to bear.
- this articulated arm is housed in a lumen of a chimney in which slides the push rod and which is erected on the body integral with the rear base plate of the mortar in which the percussion ensemble.
- FIG. 1 is a view of the device according to the invention for a first condition, before departure from a stroke ;
- - Figure 2 is a corresponding view but after a sudden start
- - Figure 3 is a view similar to that of Figure 2 but for another condition of the device
- a device D according to the invention for firing a projectile p fired by a mortar M which is shown at t. the rear end of the barrel tube, opposite the mouth a.-, and which is either in one piece with the rest of the tube or, more generally, movable relative to said barrel tube, essentially comprises a percussion assembly 10 , a set movable stop 11, means 12 for actuating the percussion assembly 10 and a member 13 for controlling the means 12 suitable for being made operational by means of a trigger constituted here by an electromagnet 16 with rod 17.
- the percussion assembly 10 is housed in a body 23 fixed to the rear base plate 27 of the mortar M and, therefore, accompanies the recoil movement of the weapon after a shot has been fired, when such a decline manifests itself. As clearly visible in FIGS.
- the body 23 has in its tubular front part, 23b, a first bore 23a_ in which a striker 24 is slidably mounted, the front face 24a of which carries a percussion point 24b, the cross section the striker being as shown in Figure 5, that is to say circular and slit along four longitudinal ducts 25-] _, 252/2 * ⁇ 3 '25 4 regularly distributed over the circumference and prevailing over the entire length of the striker which is fixed on a rod 26 coaxial with the axis A of the tube t.
- the latter is partly surrounded by a ring 40 resting on a shoulder 41 of a second bore 42, -of larger diameter than the bore 23a.-, of the rear part of the body 23, said ring 40 serving to guide and stop a stack of shock-absorbing springs 45, the preload of which can be adjusted using of the screw cap 35, which partly covers the ring 40 by its cylindrical end wall 46.
- a lever 51 On the rear end of the rod 26a_ is articulated, around a pivot axis 50, a lever 51 also articulated at its other end around an axis 52 mounted in cheeks J which carry the body 23 and between which can move an arm 54 harnessed to the lever 51 by an axis 53 placed between the axes 50 and 52, the arm 54 being guided in a lumen 55 of a chimney 56 erected on the body 23 and which is directed substantially perpendicular to the axis of the bores 23a and 42, about halfway along the latter.
- a push rod 60 In the chimney 56 is slidably mounted a push rod 60 whose end 60a. (closest to the body 23) is hollowed out to accommodate a compression spring 61, FIG. 3, bearing at its other end on the bottom of the chimney 56, the push rod 60 carrying at its other end a rocking mechanism 62 constituted by a key 63 pivotally mounted around an axis 64 against the action of a piano wire spring 65, FIG. 4.
- the device D also includes the movable stop assembly 11 constituted by an arming finger 70 slidably mounted in the plate.
- a fixed plate, 80, provided at the front of the movable stop assembly is adapted to cooperate with finger 70 to move the latter , against the action of the spring 71, from the position shown in Figure 3 to that shown in Figures 1 and 2, as will be explained below in the description which will now be made of the operation of a device according to one invention.
- the firing device is as shown in FIG. 1 where the striker 24 is inside the bore 23a, the percussion point 24b not protruding into the tube t_ where a projectile p.
- the electromagnet 16 bolted to a fixed part of the weapon is made operational, its rod 17 is released to pass from the condition shown in FIG. 1 to that shown in FIG. 2 where it presses the key 63 to move the push rod 60 in the direction of arrow F, causing the arm 54 which was in contact with the screw 75 of the movable stop assembly 11 to swing down (in the drawing) and which, as a result, escapes him.
- the percussion spring 33 which was bandaged in the initial condition, is released and projects the striker 24 forward via the rod 26 which is integral therewith.
- the initiation of the cartridge which equips the projectile p then causes the firing of one or more charges c associated with the projectile p and the combustion of which generates the propellant gases of said projectile.
- These propellant gases confined between the tube t_, the base plate 27 of the mortar and the projectile p cause the ejection of the latter, on the one hand, and, on the other hand, penetrate partly through the conduits 25 in the chamber limited by the bore 23a., the rear face * of the striker 24 and the sealing ring 18, advantageously a lip ring made of a material insensitive to corrosion, for example of the type of those used in the guides automotive engine valves.
- the pressure of the gases generated is low and the weapon does not does not undergo, or undergo only a slight decline; the pressure force acting on the front face 24a. of the striker 24 being greater than that acting on the rear face of said striker, - due to the presence of the rod 26 -, the striker and the rod which is integral therewith recoil from the condition shown in FIG. 2, compressing the percussion spring 33.
- the lever 51 pivots around the axis 52 anticlockwise, as shown by the arrow f_, thus making the arm 54 escape the screw 75 of the assembly of movable stop, while the spring 61 energized when the electromagnet is triggered (whose rod has meanwhile retracted) thus brings the arm 54 into abutment on the screw 75, that is to say again in the condition shown in Figure 1, to allow the firing of new ammunition.
- the firing which has just been described generates a strong pressure of the propellant gases which causes, on the one hand, the retreat of the weapon , as shown in Figure 3, but also, on the other hand, a displacement of the rod 26 and the piston 30 which is integral therewith.
- This displacement of greater amplitude than that of the previous case brings, in fact, said piston in abutment on the ring 40 to slightly move the latter by compressing the shock absorber springs 45 then serving to dissipate and absorb the kinetic energy of the percussion assembly, the lever 51 and the arm 54 which "associated therewith.
- the entire mobile assembly again moves forward (under the action of means not shown and which are associated with the mortar), the finger 70 abuts on the fixed plate 80 and said finger is moved slidingly towards the rear of the weapon to control the corresponding movement of the arm 54: the latter then pivots about the axis 52 and the axis 50 to bring the firing pin 24 in its eclipsed provided by simultaneously compressing the spring 'percussion 33.
- the device D according to the invention being, as explained above, operative independently of the charge used, that is, with strong, weak, or even abse recoil of the weapon.
- the button 63 is mounted at the end of the push rod 60 by a rocking mechanism, which, as shown in FIG. 4, allows said rod pusher, and therefore the entire mechanism, to return to the armed position, even in the case where the rod 17 of one electromagnet has not been recalled in its inoperative condition at the end of return to the battery, and this, most simply, by yielding by a pivoting movement around the axis 64 against the action of the spring 65 which then brings the key back into its condition allowing the ignition.
