- an electronic taxi passenger signal receiving device vehicle mounted, comprising a unit which receives a radio frequency signal, emitted by a would be passenger using a hand held radio transmitter, via an antenna array of several dipoles set geometrically opposed, each dipole wired to a corresponding L.E.D. displayed on the units face, and cabled to the devices discriminating circuitry which will determine which dipole received the signal first and illuminate this antenna dipoles' corresponding L.E.D. to indicate to the driver the direction from which the signal was received, whilst simultaneously triggering an audible tone alerting the driver to the presence of the would be passenger.
- an antenna with four dipoles is used, each dipoles corresponding L.E.D. being positioned on the units face to show a NW, NE, SW, SE configuration, thus when the radio frequency signal sent by a would be passenger is received and the taxi driver is alerted by the sound tone he can observe which L.E.D. is illuminated on the unit and determine from this whether the would be passenger is positioned to the front left or right or back left or right of the taxi vehicle.

- the antenna comprises several dipoles set geometrically opposed and each dipole wired to a corresponding L.E.D. displayed on the units face, and cabled to the units discrimatory circuitry.
- the units antenna receives the signal.
- the decoded signal simultaneously triggers an audible tone and illuminates the L.E.D. on the units face corresponding to the dipole. This will indicate the direction from which the signal was received.
- the driver can then note the location of the would be passenger, relative to his taxi, by observing the position of the illuminated L.E.D. on the units face. The driver can then stop the vehicle in an appropriate position to collect the prospective passenger.
- the driver of a taxi will be assured of being alerted to the presence of a would be passenger who is signalling the taxi.
- the taxi passenger signal receiver according to this invention is not restricted to the use of an antenna with several dipoles but can be constructed using a single dipole if only the existence of a prospective passenger and not their position, relative to the taxi, is required.
