Abstract

L'invention se rapporte à une imprimante par points sans impact, telle qu'une imprimante à diodes électroluminescentes, qui enregistre les niveaux de gris de chaque point en soumettant le temps d'exposition de chaque diode électroluminescente à une modulation d'impulsion en largeur. On effectue le réglage de chaque temps d'exposition de chaque diode électroluminescente en comparant un comptage représentant un temps d'exposition avec un résultat de changement de temps produit par deux compteurs. L'imprimante améliorée et le procédé d'impression utilisent deux compteurs qui comptent à des cadences d'horloge légèrement différentes (ou aux mêmes cadences d'horloge mais avec des changements pendant les comptages effectués à des moments légèrement différents). Un multiplexeur associé au comparateur détermine par sélection quel résultat de sortie des compteurs doit être comparé au moyen du comparateur. Une diode électroluminescente particulière peut être sélectivement éclairée pendant un temps d'élément d'image déterminé soit uniquement par l'un ou l'autre des compteurs soit conjointement par le comptage de l'un des compteurs et par le comptage de l'autre compteur. Etant donné la petite différence entre les cadences d'horloge utilisées pour faire varier les résultats de sortie du compteur, on peut considérablement améliorer l'uniformité du réglage des diodes électroluminescentes en permettant un réglage fin du temps d'exposition des diodes électroluminescentes.
