Abstract

Le procédé décrit, qui sert à produire des semences hybrides fertiles ou des semences hybrides composées de semences fertiles et de semences stériles, utilise des plantes stériles mâles créées par des techniques moléculaires permettant de manipuler un gène antisensoriel et d'autres gènes qui sont capables de réguler la production de pollen fertile dans les plantes. Des techniques de transformation sont utilisées pour introduire dans les plantes des structures contenant des ADN antisensoriels et d'autres gènes. Ces plantes sont fonctionnellement stériles mâles et sont utiles pour la production de semences hybrides par croisement de ces plantes stériles mâles avec du pollen provenant de plantes fertiles mâles. Ainsi, la production de semences hybrides est simplifiée et améliorée grâce à la présente invention et son application peut être étendue à des espèces de cultures végétales pour lesquelles des procédés de production de semences hybrides commercialement acceptables ne sont pas couramment disponibles.
