IEEE802.3 uses the number of collisions experienced by the packet to calculate the backoff interval. The cell network may not always have collision detection so the cell's backoff algorithm may use the protocol's inferred collision to calculate the backoff interval. If the cell has collision detection, it detects a collision in the same slot in which it occurs and retries the transmission (after the backoff interval) .

The other 32 bits of the system ID are transmitted within the packet.

Abstract

La présente invention décrit un réseau permettant le déroulement d'opérations de détection, de communications et de commande. Plusieurs cellules intelligentes (27, 28), dont chacune comprend un circuit intégré ayant un processeur et une section d'entrée/sortie, sont couplées au réseau. Les cellules peuvent être couplées par différents moyens, tels que des lignes d'alimentation, des paires torsadées, des liaisons à haute fréquence, des liaisons à infrarouge, des liaisons à ultrasons, des liaisons coaxiales optiques, etc., pour former un réseau. Le mode de réalisation préféré de ladite cellule comprend un multiprocesseur et une multitude de sous-sections d'entrée/sortie, dans lesquelles n'importe lequel des processeurs peut communiquer avec n'importe laquelle des sous-sections d'entrée/sortie, ce qui permet l'exécution continue d'un programme sans interruptions potentielles causées par la connexion avec la section d'entrée/sortie.
