Description

The present invention relates to a ball detector of limit value of acceleration or deceleration, used to excite the automatic device for the operation of the hazard lights of motor vehicles in the event of multidirectional shocks. It is important that the hazard lights of motor vehicles automatically turn on, in the event of a collision or accident, because the driver of the injured vehicle, in shock, is incapable or does not systematically have an instantaneous reflex , to activate the hazard warning lights: this leads to a loss of. precious time for reporting this accident, with all that that entails as a risk of chain accidents, increased by night traffic or unfavorable weather conditions.
Various solutions have been developed to remedy this situation, among which we may cite those described in patent applications; FRA 2,278,535, having for its object a flashing system, with deceleration control, intended for signaling or locating damaged vehicles, consisting mainly of an automatic switch intended for starting up a flashing unit, characterized in that that the automatic switch is composed of a mass of heavy metal, oscillating on an axis, retained by a flexible strip. The oscillation of the mass causes the displacement of a small magnetic mass mounted opposite the counterweight and this displacement causes the closing of two small relays, controlling the supply of a flashing cell and the start-up of this one. this. FRA 2 373 422, relating to a device, instantly preventing petrol vehicles from catching fire, in the event of an accident, by cutting off the supply of the electric harness, at the same time as a secondary circuit marks the vehicle 'damaged by the setting in operation of the hazard warning lights of said damaged vehicle, characterized in that it is formed by two plates, made of insulating material, between which takes up a pendulum system in which are incorporated the members necessary for breaking connections of the entire electrical circuit .
The devices described in the first two patent applications cited (FRA 2,278,535 and FRA 2,373,422) have the drawback of not being triggered automatically in the event of overturning or overturning at reduced speed, of only affecting vehicles equipped a specialized distress center, controlled by a single-contact switch, which is currently abandoned by automobile manufacturers. Furthermore, the device described in the first patent application is only triggered for a frontal impact. The devices described in the other two patent applications.
De plus, la demande de brevet FRA 2 434 470 comprend un dispositif à diodes qui engendre une très forte chute de tension.(FRA 2 381 385 and FRA 2 434470) have the disadvantage of not, like those described in the other requests cited above, being triggered in the event of a reversal or reversal at low speed, of not being provided with means setting threshold and not to have tolerance over time variation of the magnetic element. In addition, patent application FRA 2,434,470 includes a device for diodes which generates a very strong voltage drop.
We already know a ball detector automatically activating the hazard lights (patent application FRA 2 416 816). Its body includes a tubular guide member for a metal ball, in which, in the vicinity of one end, project two contacts connected to flexible conductors, intended to be inserted in the supply circuit of the hazard warning lights, an elastic member calibrated, inserted into the tubular guide member capable, on the one hand, of keeping the ball away from the contacts when the vehicle is moving normally, and, on the other hand, after erasing, of applying the ball against the contacts in the event of brutal shock. This detector is unidirectional, works only for a frontal impact, and does not trigger the hazard lights in the event of total or partial reversal, fugitive or permanent, which may occur at reduced speed and without impact. Returning the ball to its initial position is not easy, because the engine cover must be raised to access the reset button. The acceleration or deceleration limit value ball detector according to the invention aims to remedy these drawbacks. This ball detector, as characterized in the claims, solves the problem of creating a detector which automatically triggers the hazard lights in particular in the event of an impact, but also in the event of a total or partial, fugitive reversal or reversal. or permanent, which can occur at reduced speed and without shock.
The ball detector, essentially consists of a body, conductor of electricity, comprising in its middle a frustoconical recess, extended downwards by a well of adjustable depth in which is housed a metal ball, a cover, separated from the body by an insulating washer, and from a circuit comprising a contactor relay, the power up of which is controlled by bringing the metal ball into contact with the cover and the power off of which is obtained by action on a push button normally closed.
The depth adjustment of the well is obtained by means of a tight screw on which the metal ball rests. The action on the tight screw for adjusting the depth of the well determines a dimension a, which, depending on the attitude angle of the vehicle, fixes the limit value of acceleration or deceleration.
The body can be tilted, at an angle and in a determined direction, in order to differentiate the acceleration limit value from the deceleration limit value. According to one embodiment, the cover consists of an insulating plate provided with two concentric conductive circular tinned tracks, one of which is located in the center and connected to a contact pad, and the other of which, clamped between the plate insulator and the body, is connected to another contact pad.
The advantages obtained thanks to this invention consist essentially in the fact that the hazard warning lights operate automatically in the event of total or partial reversal or reversal, fugitive or permanent, which may occur at reduced speed and without shock, and this, thanks to the adjustment of the trigger threshold which is multidirectional. This detector is insensitive to shocks the direction of which is perpendicular to the plane of movement: unless these are accompanied by a deceleration corresponding to that determined by the slope of the frustoconical recess, and is impervious to attack by the external environment. In addition, the functions of said vehicle such as switching on hazard lights, direction change indicator are not impaired. Other characteristics and advantages will appear in the following description of two embodiments of the ball detector according to the invention, given by way of nonlimiting examples, with regard to the appended drawings in which:
The figure "! Represents a view in longitudinal section of the ball detector according to the invention.

By examining FIGS. 1 and 4, it is noted that, in accordance with the present invention, the body 1 comprises a well 2 and a frustoconical recess 5, the well 2 has a diameter slightly greater than that of the metal ball 4, and its penetration in the well is adjustable by a tight shouldered screw 3, thus determining the dimension a of adjustment of the ball 4, which, with the attitude angle of the vehicle, intervenes for the sensitivity of the triggering threshold. The body 1 and the cover 6 are made of conductive material and are insulated from each other by a non-washer driver 7.
Two contacts are arranged respectively on the body 1 and the cover 6. Given its design, which allows the triggering of the hazard warning lights for any multi-directional shock greater than the intensity of the triggering threshold, the ball detector according to the invention may be arranged in any axial direction of said vehicle, substantially horizontal.
The assembly of ball detector A and circuit to be connected to the various electrical components of the vehicle is delimited by the dashed line 23. The existing circuit on the vehicle comprises the ignition switch with the key 22, a switch 9 for setting manual function of the hazard warning lights, which can also be used, according to a preferred mounting mode, as a switch for switching off the operation of the hazard warning lights, made up of the left direction indicator 17 and right direction indicator lights 18. The left-hand 17 and right-hand direction indicator lights 18 are connected via a contactor relay to a turn signal unit 21.
La profondeur du puits 16 est ajustable par une vis étanche 13.Warning lights 19 and 20 respectively signal the driver when the hazard warning lights are on and when the left direction indicator 17 and right direction indicator lights are shared 18. The electrical circuit diagram, shown in FIG. 4, is in the resting state. During a shock or a reversal, or a total or partial reversal, fugitive or permanent, which can occur at reduced speed and without shock, the ball 4, as soon as the intensity of this shock or this reversal is higher than that of the triggering threshold, leaves the well 2 and rises along the slope of the frustoconical conductive recess until making temporary contact between the body 1 and the cover 6. The contact instantly creates an electric current and a force electromagnetic which acts simultaneously, on the one hand on a contactor relay 8, whose role is to close the self-supply circuit, and, on the other hand, on contactor relays allowing: the switching off of the electric harness by opening of contact 8 a, in order to avoid any risk of fire, supply to the original indicator central 21, supply to the left direction indicator 17 and right direction indicator lights 18, as well as the power of the witness lights oins 19 and 20. The operation of the hazard warning lights may be interrupted by action on a switch 9 located near the dashboard. The self-supply circuit being open, it no longer allows the closing of the other contactor relays, since the electromagnetic force is interrupted by switching off the self-supply circuit. According to another simplified embodiment, with a view to its industrialization, the ball detector according to the invention comprises, as shown in FIGS. 2 and 3, a cover consisting of an insulating plate 10, provided with two tinned tracks circular, concentric conductors 10 a and 10 b. The body 11 is made of stamped or spun brass. The tinned track 10 a is located in the center and is connected to a contact pad 14 and the other 10 b, pinched between the. insulating plate 10 and the body 11, is connected to a contact pad 15. The depth of the well 16 is adjustable by a tight screw 13.
During a shock, a total or partial reversal, fugitive or permanent, which may occur at reduced speed and without shock, the ball 4, in contact with the tinned, circular, conductive tracks 10 a and 10 b, instantly allows the activation of the hazard warning lights, following the same operating principle as that shown in FIG. 4. The ball detector for acceleration or deceleration limit value is more particularly applicable in the field of automobile construction , but can be used as a means of detecting abnormal accelerations or decelerations undergone by delicate material during transport.
