Definitions

  • the invention relates to a device for applying mascara, consisting of a sleeve containing the mascara and an applicator whose profiled outer surface can be wetted with the mascara.
  • the applicator is connected via a rod to the closure cap, which can be screwed onto the head end of the sleeve, so that the applicator dips into the mascara in the sleeve when the cap is screwed onto the sleeve.
  • the cap is unscrewed and the rod is pulled out of the head of the sleeve, the head of the sleeve having such a narrow opening that excess mascara is partially stripped off the rod and the applicator.
  • the applicator consists either of an external thread attached to the end of the rod or of a coiled brush arrangement, the thread having to be cut into the end of the rod and the attachment of the brush a variety of z. T. manual operations required.
  • the known devices also have the disadvantage that the cavities of the applicator, ie the spaces between the threads or spaces in the brush after the applicator has been pulled out of the sleeve are filled with the mostly liquid mascara, so that the user cannot influence the amount of mascara contained in the applicator.
  • this is often desirable because the density and length of the eyelashes differ among users.
  • a stronger dosage would also be required if a mascara with solid additives for lengthening the eyelashes, e.g. B. nylon fibers is filled.
  • the known applicator principle has two further disadvantages.
  • the invention has for its object to provide a device of the type mentioned, which is much easier to manufacture and more precise and effective in handling.
  • the applicator is firmly attached to the head end of the sleeve, that a blind hole is provided within the applicator in connection with the interior of the sleeve, from which outlet openings run radially outwards, that either the diameter of the blind hole or the diameter of the outlet openings increases towards the free end of the applicator, and that a step-by-step lifting mechanism is provided at the foot end of the sleeve, by means of which a presettable amount of mascara can be passed through the outlet openings onto each operating step Outer surface of the applicator is removable.
  • the applicator of the device according to the invention can be produced in a simple manner as a plastic injection-molded part which can be snapped into the sleeve, clamped in or otherwise fixed to it.
  • the step-by-step lifting mechanism enables precise metering of the amount of mascara required for the application, the amount being precisely and reproducibly defined by the mechanical design of the lifting mechanism.
  • the amount of mascara emerging from the applicator can be adapted to the need.
  • the possibility of metering the quantity of the emerging mascara precisely and sufficiently small also ensures that the mascara remains restricted to the applicator head. There is also hardly any loss of solvent in the stock in the sleeve, so that the contents of the sleeve retain its consistency even over a long period.
  • the applicator is provided on its circumference with spaced ribs that are at an angle to the longitudinal axis of the sleeve.
  • the ribs are preferably ring-shaped and arranged perpendicular to the axis of the sleeve, because this makes the injection mold simple.

  • the distance between the ribs is preferably the same.
  • the ribs on one half of the applicator are narrower and have a smaller spacing than the ribs on the other half. In this way, the eyelashes can be combed with the narrow ribs, while the mascara is applied with the other half, it then being expedient that only half of the applicator discharge openings in which the ribs have the greater distance.

  • the pen shown in Fig. 1 consists of a sleeve 1, which serves to hold a supply of mascara, at the head end of which an applicator 2 is attached, and at the foot end of which there is a rotary knob 3 provided with two recessed grips 4.

  • a cap 6 which can be pushed onto the head of the sleeve serves for closure when not in use.
  • a lifting mechanism (not shown) which can be actuated by the rotary knob 3 is provided.
  • This can consist, for example, of a threaded rod connected to the rotary knob 3, which drives a piston guided in the sleeve forward to the head.
  • a latching device connected to the rotary knob 3, which can be felt and preferably also heard audibly after a predetermined angle of rotation, so that the user notices when a portioning step has been carried out.
  • the engagement can take place after each full revolution or fractions of a full revolution.
  • the pitch of the thread and the effective piston area then determine the amount of mascara that comes out of the applicator during a rest step.
  • the user can determine the amount of discharge depending on the needs and nature of his eyelashes, using the rotary knob 3 either rotated by one detent or two or more detents.
  • the latching device consists, for example, of a resilient nose which, when the knob 3 is rotated, falls into one or more stationary depressions. In this way, a very fine dosage is possible, so that 0.019 ml of the mascara is made available, for example, after a rest after half a turn. This leads to very economical consumption.
  • Production is also very simple, since all parts, including the applicator, can be produced as injection-molded plastic parts.
  • FIGS. 2-5 only the applicator 2 is shown, which is inserted into the head of the sleeve 1 with its shaft 7 until a flange 8 abuts the end of the sleeve.
  • the applicator can be fixed in the sleeve by latching, clamping, gluing or by other means which ensure a tight seal at the connection point.
  • the ribs 5 of the applicator are of equal width and have the same spacing from one another. They are ring-shaped so that they run at right angles to the axis 9 of the applicator. Your outer contour is arbitrary and can be adapted to the particular circumstances. In the illustrated embodiment, its diameter decreases towards the front end of the applicator.
  • the ribs can also have the same diameter or, for example, also have a concave or convex outer contour.
  • a blind hole 10 which is connected to the cavity of the sleeve 1 and from which the passages 11 extend radially outwards into the spaces between the ribs 5.
  • the passages 11 are evenly distributed over the circumference, so that the mascara also reaches the outside uniformly at all points.
  • the blind hole 10 widens conically towards the front end of the applicator 2 in order to ensure that the same amount of mascara emerges between all the ribs. The same effect can be achieved if, according to the exemplary embodiment in FIG. 3, the blind hole 10 is cylindrical, but the diameter of the passages 11 becomes larger towards the end of the applicator.
  • FIG. 4 shows an exemplary embodiment in which the ribs 5 on one half of the applicator 2 are dimensioned as in the exemplary embodiment according to FIG. 2, while on the other half the ribs are dimensioned thinner and are arranged at a smaller distance from one another.
  • the half with the thin ribs can then be used to comb the lashes, while the half containing the thicker ribs is used to apply the mascara. Accordingly, passages 11 are only provided in this half. A complete closure can be provided between the two halves, so that a complete separation between the combing process and the application process can be achieved.
  • the ribs 5 are provided with interruptions 12, which can also run parallel to the axis 9 but also obliquely thereto. These interruptions ensure that the mascara emerging from the passages 11 can also be better distributed between the ribs.
  • the ' passages 11 can be circular but can also have a different shape and z. B. - as in the right rib space - be elongated or slit-shaped. Radially extending bristles or bristle groups can also be arranged between the ribs in order to improve the combing effect.
  • the ribs 5 are oriented obliquely to the axis 9. Instead, they can also be designed as a continuous helix.
