Definitions
- the invention relates to an educational aid in teaching of music, which has at least two concentric disks - suitably made of card, plastic or metal - which are rotatably fastened with each other and one or more circle-scales ara situated on the disks.
- the notes of major key can be read by shifting the two laths on each other, starting from different notes.
- instruments which have rotatable disks.
- the educational toy disclosed in the Hunga ⁇ rian patent No. 174 212 , which is suitable , f irst of all , to acquire the traffic sign-boards and their meaning , its construction makes it possible to learn two or more scopes of knowledge , so that there is a mechanical forced coupling among its disks.
- the invent ion is aimed at creating an educational aid for teaching of mus ic , by which it becomes poss ible to de te rmine quickly and to learn eas ily on visual way all the maj or and m inor keys , - notes and chords of further optional keys - e. g. Pentatonic scales.
- the bas ic idea of the invention is to pu t concentrically twelve notes of one octave of the chromatic scale on a round disk , and accordingly the circle will be divided into twelve equal sectors , then starting f rom each note we radiately put the musical keys , naturally together with the half-tones. This way the notes of musical scales appear on the dis k once along twelve concentric circles , and once in twelve sectors radiately. Now , if we make a disk of the same s ize and we put the concentric circles and sectors of the former disk on it , then we get a net , gradually shortening towards "the centre and determining a rc-pieces.
- the task will be solved by putting sectors on the so-called basic disc , which are of identical central angle and by putting concentric circles situated in identical intervals from each other; by marking the notes " in the segments , - arc-pieces - set up by concentric circles and sectors - each sector a certain scale , going suitably round from sector to sector, in growing order according to the notes of chromatic scale; further on a so-called mask-disk, which is provided with real or imaginary net created from concentric circles and sectors of identical size and number as on the basic disk - look-over windows are formed on the places of key(s) and chords wished to be illustrated; and finally the basic disk and the mask disk are fastened together concentrically so that they can rotate around the centre.
- the look-over windows of mask-disk can be made of trans ⁇ parent material , but they can be cut , too.
- denominations of key(s) and chord(s) to be illustrated are indicated either at the centre of the mask-disk or along its outer perimeter.
- the sectors on the basic disk or their certain parts are of different colours for the sake of easier memorization.
- the educational aid according to the invention is suitable - arised from its structural construction - to determine easily and quickly the notes of either the major or the minor key, and the notes belonging to the wished triple and quaternion chords at all the sharp and flat keys, ⁇ tarting from any note.
- the proper sectors and sector-pieces are divided into two parts, and the sharpened and flattened denomination of the same tone are written in the two half parts. For example: G sharp - A flat; C sharp - D flat, etc.
- Fig. 1 shows a basic disk with the keys on it
- - Fig. 2 shows a mask-disk belonging to major key and chords
- - Fig. 3 is a mask-disk belonging to minor key and chords
- the basic disk in Fig. 1 is divided into twelve equal sectors 8, with central angle 30° each, and around its centre of rotation eighteen concentric circles 9 can be found in equal distance from each other.
- these are bowed strips - the notes of chromatic scale are written in the direction of perimeter.
- the notes of keys belonging to bas ic notes being situated along the outer or inner concentric circle 9 can be found in the segments of each sector 8.
- the sectors 8 which contain bas ic note keys modif ied by sharp are divided into two equal parts by a radius .
- a mas k- disk is supplied with sectors 8 and concentric circles 9 identically with those found on the basic disk.
- Bowed look-over windows 5 are formed in certain sectors 8 at places , where the notes of major chord , the notes of major triple-chord in zero-setting , in sixth turning , in quart- sixth turning , the quaternion chord in zero setting , in quint-sixth turning , in third-quart turning , and in second turning can be found , further the notes of do and la pentatonic scales.
- the mask-disk 2 is fastened concentrically and rotatably to the basic disk 1. Setting the look-over windows 5 of major sector 8 on to the key beginning with C note of the inner concentric circle 9 , the notes of this key can be read one after the other , going outwards. The situation is the same when setting different chords written in the inside of the mask-disk 2.
- the mask-disk 3 in Fig. 3 contains information of minor keys , in details : .natural minor , rhytmical (melodious ) minor ; consonant (harmonic ) minor ; minor-triple chord and its turning in zero-setting , and minor quaternion chord and its every turning ; minor seventh , minor quint- sixth ; minor triple-quart ; minor second turnings.
- the educational aid according to the invention - as mentioned above - is suitable to show immediately the notes of scales with optional initial notes , and their triple and quaternion chords by rotating the mask-disk. The same is possible in reverse order, so that it can be determined quickly, which chord and key form the notes given.
- the educational aid according to the invention can be simply made, its handling doesn't need special skill, it requires only elementary knowledge of music.
- the educational aid can be made favourably by phototechnical process or by sieve printing, roost suitably of plastic raw-material with transparent look-over windows.
- the aid can be applied a lementary and grammer-schools , schools and courses of music, teachers college, and of course, for everyone who learns music or deals with music
- the invention is not limited to the details disclosed herein, as it is recognized that departures may be made there - from within the scope of the inven- tion protected in the claims.
- the denomination of the same note modified by sharp or flat can be marked.
- the number of sectors and concentric circles is not limited either because it is obvious that by changing the size more or fewer segments can be made and used than on the example demonstrated above.
- the keys written in the sectors may start or end at the centre. Further the keys in the sectors need not follow the order of the chromatic scale. Finally, the order of sectors on the mask-disk can be chosen as well. Of course, there are favoured, advantageous arrangements on certain practical purposes.
- the educational aid according to the invention is of greater importance, since it can be used not only as visual aid, but also as controlling instrument, it can be produced by cheap serial production, which assures its low price , making it available for everybody.
