Description

Compas pour tracer des ellipses. Compass for drawing ellipses.
The present invention relates to the instruments used for drawing and more particularly the compasses for drawing ellipses.
The currently known instruments are not satisfactory because they are imprecise on the one hand, complex and difficult to handle on the other.
If | they are instruments with perpendicular slides, the ellipse can only be traced by repeating it twice. It is necessary to plant the point of a "pushpin" in the center of the ellipse at trace and position the strips sometimes on one side, sometimes on the other side of said point to trace the ellipse hence the imprecision and inconvenience.
Par ailleurs, la pointe de traçage est toujours en contact avec la feuille de papier de sorte que, pendant l'ajustage du compas aux diamètres de l'ellipse à obtenir des traces inopportunes subsistent, car le support de la pointeIn the case of eccentric and connecting rod compasses, bearing only one foot, it is difficult to adjust the diameters of the ellipse to be traced and the slightest inclination of the support arm of the central point , during tracing, results in obtaining a geometrically inexact ellipse. On the other hand, the mechanism transforming the rotation of the compass into movements of approaching and moving away from the tracer arm, being located below the toggle assembly of the arms of the compass, it partially hides the el- ' . . lipse during tracing. It is also particularly ma¬ laise to adjust the position of the eccentrics which define the proportion of the ellipse, because the two connecting rods must operate together and that the position of their respective eccentric can only be adjusted separately. Equally, as if to compensate for the length of travel of the support for the tracing point, the compass must be tilted accordingly, the ellipses tracings are inaccurate on the geometric plane. Furthermore, the tracing point is always in contact with the sheet of paper so that, during the adjustment of the compass to the diameters of the ellipse to obtain inopportune traces remain, because the support of the point
Finally, this kind of instrument has only one foot, which is not enough to keep the compass upright without the Hicher and this foot is not foldable, storing the compass requires a large box.
The compass object of the present invention allows to re¬ mediate all these drawbacks. It is of the type with a single eccentric and a single .biellette whose position can be easily adjusted by a retractable screwdriver rod, which can reach the adjustment screw of the eccentric only when the tracing point falls on a point of one of the diameters of the ellipse.
The tracer arm is coupled to the lever which transmits the movements of the eccentric, by a screw allowing a millimeter adjustment of the spacing of said tracer arm relative to the central pivot of the compass.
The tracer arm is articulated and includes a quick adjustment device located downstream of the millimeter and quick adjustments. The tip of the central pivot and the plotter support are telescopic and retractable. They undergo the action of two springs, one flexible to start, the other hard for the end. race. They have ball bearings for their axial and radial guides and needle shoes for their longitudinal linear guidance, but cannot rotate.
•The compass has three feet which support the whole instrument, so that the user can let go of it and pay attention only to the adjustments which it maneuver- thus more easily. The feet are foldable and can be brought, by rotary movement, one against the other to allow the compass to be stored in a small volume. •
The rotary movements of the feet are limited by means which allow them to assume the position which corresponds to a triangle, hence an appreciable time saving for the implementation of the compass.

Several superimposed pins 89 passing through the rod 82 make it possible to choose the position of the tracer relative to the sheet of paper on which the elelysis must be traced.
Une autre variante de ce porte-traceur est montrée figu¬ res - Il s'agit de jumelles 90 guidant deux tiges' 91, respec-Another variant of this plotter holder is shown in fig. - These are binoculars 90 guiding two rods ' 91, respec-
A screw 93 makes it possible to block the plotter at the desired height. The binoculars 90 are fixed to the articulated part 68 of the arm 58 by means of a tail 94. FIG. 11 represents an extension device for the feet of the compass. Each ring 18 and 19 has a flat nose 95 which extends radially and on which a slide 96 can slide, locked by a screw 97 and forming an articulation 98 for a bent piece 99 playing the role of slide for the slide that each foot of the compass locked by a screw 100.
Figure 8 shows the detail of the pin 36 driven by the pinion of the pinion 34. The groove 36a dug at the base of the Ion touri allows adjustment and retention of the slide 37 under the action of the screw 45 which passes through it.
The operation of the compass takes place in the following manner. The central point 53 is planted in the center of the ellipse to be traced. After having chosen the diameters of the ellipse, the tracer 66 is adjusted to these diameters by means of the screw 62 e of the screwdriver rod 46, all without the lead or stylus 66 touching the paper but while being close enough for precise and convenient adjustment.
By pressing on the cap 3, the plotter is brought into contact with the paper and it suffices to cause the rotation of the control head 5 by means of the lever 4. Thanks to the fixed toothed crown 32, the rotation of the head 5 controls that in¬ verses pinions 31 and 33, the latter causing the rotation of the pinion .34 in the direction initially printed on the head 5 by the lever 4. The rotation of the pinion 34 causes that of the pin 36 which is integral with it and by Consequently, that of the slide 37, the more or less important offset of which causes, by means of the link 39, the reciprocating movement of the bar 38 which it transmits to the lever 59, which it echoes to the tracer arm 58 and consequently to the stylus 66 which generates the ellipse in a single stroke and without recovery.
^ 5.E To facilitate the mounting of the dome 6 and the shouldered ron¬ 16, provision is made to dig two grooves in the socket 9 in which small bossa¬ ges made in said dome and washer can engage. ^ 5.E
