  • the method cannot therefore be used for spreading relatively thin flowing pasty mixtures, such as that which is used for baking thin pancakes, for example.
  • the aim of the invention is to provide a method of spreading a pasty mixture on the upper web of an endless belt in a uniformly thick layer of variable thickness, and this is made possible by heating the upper web of the belt in a zone located in front of the oven and extending right across the belt, and by bringing the upper face of the belt web in at least part of the said zone into contact with the pasty mixture.
  • An arrangement for carrying out this method comprises a heat source placed under the upper web of the belt and designed to heat the belt web in a zone located in front of the oven and extending right across the belt, the said upper web of the belt being inclined upwards in the transportation direction, and the said spreading device for the pasty mixture comprising a rear end wall orientated right across the belt, together with two sides disposed along the edges of the belt, which adjoin the upper face of the belt web leak-tightly so that, together with the end piece and the sides, the bolt web forms a container having the belt as its base, the pasty mixture being fed into this container up to a variable level.
  • Spreading of the pasty mixture is accordingly accomplished by bringing part of a heated zone on the upper face of the belt web into contact with the pasty mixture, so that some of the pasty mixture located closest to the belt coagulates and sticks on the belt in a layer with a specific thickness.
  • the thickness of this layer depends on the amount of pasty mixture which coagulates.
  • the thickness of the layer can be varied by varying the contact area between the pasty mixture and the belt, which means that the time during which coagulation is allowed to occur in a certain section of the belt is varied. Another way of varying the said time is to vary the trnasportation speed of the belt, as manifested by another particular characteristic of the invention.
  • the thickness of the layer of pasty mixture can be varied by varying the heating of the said zone on the upper web of the belt.

  • the upper web 1 of the belt 1 is heated in a zone located in front of the oven and extending right across the belt.

  • the thickness of the layer of pasty mixture depends on the amount of heat which is transmitted from the bolt to the pasty mixture, in that the more heat transmitted to the pasty mixture, the thicker the layer of pasty mixture.
  • the amount of heat can be varied by varying the temperature of the heat source, the transportation speed of the belt, or the contact area of the pasty mixture in the transportation direction.
  • the two last-mentioned methods of varying the thickness or the layer of pasty mixture mean in actual fact that the time during which the pasty mixture closest to the belt is allowed to receive heat from the belt is varied.
  • the upper belt web 1' is inclined upwards in the transportation direction and the said heated one of the belt 1 may rorrn the bottom of a container 7 with a rear end wall 8 orientated right across the belt 1, together with two sides 9 disposed along the edges of the belt.
  • the rear end wall 8 and the sides 9 adjoin the upper face of the belt web 1' leak-tightly so that the pasty mixture cannot leak out of the container 7.
  • In the rear end wall 8 there is an opening 10 and a sliding plate 12 which can be adjusted by means of a wheel 11, which together act as an overflow valve by means of which the level of the pasty mixture in the container 7 can be adjusted.
  • a specific extent of contact area between the pasty mixture and the upper face of the belt web 1' corresponds to a specific level.
  • the pasty mixture is pumped into the container 7 from another container 13 via a pipe 14 with a pump connected to it, the pumping capacity of the pump being adjusted so that slightly more pasty mixture is constantly pumped in the container 7 than the amount removed via the bolt.
  • the belt should have an high a transportation speed as possible. However, this is limited by the capacity of the oven, and it may also be necessary to take into consideration the capacity of equipment located after the belt which takes over the fully-baked products.
  • the thickness of the layer 6 of pasty mixture is thus determined primarily by the level in the container 7, but a certain amount of fine adjustment can be effeeted by changing the temperature of the heat source and/or the transportation speed of the belt 1.
