Definitions

  • the invention relates to weaving looms, and in particular to broadcloth looms in which the warp yarns are made to shed by healds that are controlled from a jacquard or other patterning mechanism through a harness of cords which pull against lingoes or elastic connectors.
  • Broadcloth looms may be arranged to produce different widths of fabric at will.
  • a loom which might be controlled by two jacquards, may be set up to produce two 72 inch (183 cm) wide fabrics or three 48 inch (l22 cm) wide fabrics.
  • the harness cords fan out from.the jacquard or other patterning mechanism and are guided through eyelets in a comber board before being attached to the healds.
  • the comber board is made up of slips which are short sections of board with rows of eyelets.
  • the slips are usually 6 inch (15.25 cm) long so that twelve of them would be used to produce a 72 inch (183 cm) width fabric.
  • a standard 21 ⁇ 2 inch (6.35 cm) wide spacer is provided for separating the widths of fabric, and this usually has eyelets for the selvedge cords.
  • the invention provides a method for adjusting a broadcloth loom from a first fabric width configuration to a second such configuration, in which harness cords are displaced along the comber board so that the length of each harness cord between its point of attachment to the patterning mechanism and the comber board is unaltered.

  • the harness cords may be guided each in a path which comprises an inclined portion from its locating point to the comber board and the adjustment may then comprise displacing at least some harness cords along the comber board so that they have their inclined portions equally but oppositely inclined.
  • Tne comber board may, as usual, comprise a plurality of slips separable into fabric width sections by spacers.

  • the spacer or spacers in the comber board customarily have aperture to guide harness cords for the selvedge threads. • selvedge board may be mounted on a bracket that can slide along the rail in which the slips are carried without interfering with the slips themselves and so that the selvedge cords can be moved along the comber board without interfering with the cords for the main body of the fabric.

  • the invention also provides a broadcloth loom for weaving fabrics, comprising a patterning mechanism and a comber board, and means for changing the loom from a first fabric width configuration to a second such configuration by displacing harness cords along the comberboard so that the length of each harness cord between its point of attachment to the patterning mechanism and the comber board is unaltered.
