Definitions

  • a package comprising at least one article enclosed in an open ended sleeve of shrinkable material can be prepared by overlapping the opposed ends of a sheet of film to form a tube or sleeve in which the article is positioned, the ends of the tube extending beyond the ends of the article. Only that portion of the seam which is adjacent to a lateral surface of the article is sealed. After the partial sealing, the tubing is heat shrunk about the article leaving the end openings of the tube reduced in size. The portions of the seam adjacent the ends of the article which have not been scaled terminate in the periphery of the openings and form convenient tear tabs.

Abstract

A PACKAGE COMPRISING AT LEAST ONE ARTICLE ENCLOSED IN AN OPEN ENDED SLEEVE OF SHRINKABLE MATERIAL CAN BE PREPARED BY OVERLAPPING THE OPPOSED ENDS OF A SHEET OF FILM TO FORM A TUBE OR SLEEVE IN WHICH THE ARTICLE IS POSITIONED, THE ENDS OF THE TUBE EXTENDING BEYOND THE ENDS OF THE ARTICLE. ONLY THAT PORTION OF THE SEAM WHICH IS ADJACENT TO A LATERAL SURFACE OF THE ARTICLE IS SEALED. AFTER THE PARTIAL SEALING, THE TUBING IS HEAT SHRUNK ABOUT THE ARTICLE LEAVING THE ENDS OPENINGS OF THE TUBE REDUCED IN SIZE. THE PORTIONS OF THE SEAM ADJACENT THE ENDS OF THE ARTICLE WHICH HAVE NOT BEEN SEALED TERMINATE IN THE PERIPHERY OF THE OPENINGS AND FORM CONVENIENT TEAR TABS.
