Description

that@ JOHN E. SMITH, OF WATERBURY, CONNECTICUT.
Design No. 4,698, dated March 7, 1871.
DESIGN FOR A BUCKLE-FRAME.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom fit may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN E. SMITH, of Waterbury, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new Design for Buckle; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawing constitutes part of this specification, and represents 1n- Figure l, a front view of the buckle, complete;
Figure 2, a front view of' the plate, the clamping device attached; and in Figure 3, the same, the plate constructed with a hook to receive the loop of the braces.
This invention relates to a design for suspender buckles, that is, that class of buckles in which the strap is secured or adjusted by a clam ping-jaw, the design consisting in a longitudinal slot through the buckle-plate, and extending the buckle-plate iu a curved form around the ends of' the said slot, the said slot being in length equal to the length of the leverplate, and the ends below the slot drawn in or contracted to the attachment device, the design being represented above line :1; x, g. 2.
A is the plate, to which the clamp is attached by means of ears a a.
B, tig. l, is the clamp.
The plate A is continued, extending to either side, to form the part C, to which the braces are attached, either by bars, d, as seen in fig. 2, or by hooks D, as seen in tig. 3; and between the parts A and C a slot, S, is formed, with extensions or curved portions E at either side, allowing the length of the slot to be equal to or wider than the plate A, so that the end of the suspender or strap may be tucked therethrough; and from the curved ends E the plate is contracted, as denoted in gs. 2 and 3.
While this form adds to the graceful appearance of the buckle, it also adds a certain degree of utility.
I claim as my invention- The design for buckle-plate, as described and shown in the accompanying drawing above the line x x, iig. 2.
