Design No. 4,303, dated August 23, 1870.
DESIGN FOR A HAIR-PIN.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To 'whom 'it 'may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE W, MANsoN, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented n new and original Design for Hair-Pins, of which the following is :L specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing.
The design consists of a, hair-pin, the legs of' which are so shaped :is to be brought in contact with each other at the point a, near the ends.
The ends b nre bent outward, so that they may enter the hair easily.
Above the point a each leg of the pin is corrugated, as shownatc, and these corrngntions nifty be duplicated, if desired, or three or more eoirugzttions may be formed on each leg.
rlhe object of bringing the legs of the pin together :it the point a is to canse the pin to shut upon the heir,
and to clasp it with a, spring-like notion, so as to retain the hair which is held in the loop d of the pin, and which, hy its weight, might otherwise drztw the pin from its place.
The eorrngations c serve to enable the pin to take a. firmer hold upon the huir, and to thus support in platee the lnztss of hair held in the loop d..
What I chiiln, and desire to secure by Letters Putent, is
'lhe design for hair-pins, substantially as herein shown and described.
In testimony whereof I hzwe signed my naine to this speciliczition before two subscribing witnesses.
GEO. \V. MANSON. Witnesses:
